Slipknot: Clown to leave?

2008-07-25 by Damrod EMERITUS | 61 Comments
Apparently the drumming clown of Slipknot, percussionist M. Shawn Crahan, is ready to leave the band for good. According to Starpulse.com, the percussionist wants to spend more time with his family and loved ones.

Said Crahan: "I'm in a really weird place in my life right now. I'm at a point where I wouldn't say I'm having a mid-life crisis but... I'd love to be doing anything other than Slipknot right now."

As his wife was diagnosed with bowel condition Crohn's disease in 2001, and seems to be at an all time high regarding her medical condition, and his four children are growing up, one can understand that Crahan wants to spend more time at home than on the road.

Part of the equasion seems to be the life on the road with a modern rock and metal group as well though, as it seems to take it's toll: "I guess I don't know who I am any more and that's pretty scary."

Yeah, sad thing about his wife, if I were in a widely known band and my wife got a bad disease like that, I'd quit the band for sure to be with her.

That sucks pretty bad. I agree about it being sad about his wife.

Shawn is pretty cool, doesn't do much in the band, but is entertaining and has a good personality.

That's a shame. He's definitely got his priorities straight, but he was another crucial part of the live performance. His absence and Sid's current handicap will probably reduce the amount of energy onstage by quite a bit.

Slipknot need less people anyway. They have talent but it all gets lost in the mess... Maybe they'll focus more and finally live up to their potential... or maybe they'll just be Slipknot. Who knows

"I'd love to be doing anything other than Slipknot right now."

i don't think anyone would every need to give any justification whatsoever for this statement.

still, despite the fact their music is pretty bad, the one good thing about Slipknot has always been their live insanity. this has gotta hurt them bad. nice to know he's got his shit straight though

You mean he was the one who came up with the idea to copy Mr. Bungle with wearing masks. Yep. Thats what you meant.

Makes complete sense. He was actually one of the more mature members, and his stage act wasn't actually who he really was, like many other performers.

Uh I have ulcerative colitis (which is similar to Crohn's), and though Crohn's is a bad disease, I'm pretty sure you can survive indefinitely with it.

I mean it's an awful disease, I'll be the first to admit it, but I don't think Crohn's is ever fatal unless you get a really bogus complication like intestinal perforation or something.

More evidence that slipknot is slowly just turning into stone sour. Hell, their new music is already there, now they just need to make more adjustments to the band.

Have you heard Psychosocial? It sounds so much weaker than anything found off the first 2 albums. And what is with them not cussing in their songs anymore? Im not immature, nor is it important to me, but why the change?

For instance, compare this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4xtPqRB9hTY

To this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=1i_72iKvbtI

Edit: my comment was to bunit, and yes I have heard their other new song, and was impressed by the Heavyness, but then the chorus came...

If I was in Slipknot I'd quit too. Lucky for him, no ones actually seen his face, so he's saved himself that embarrassment and can actually have a future without being "that guy from that really, really terrible wannabe metal band".

A. Slipknot doesn't suck. Most people hate them based on their image. I know i used to. Then I actually listened to them.

B. If Shawn quits, the band's done. They've stated that they are the 9, and will not go on without any single member.
