Soulja Boy: Hottest MC Around? 2008-01-23 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 35 Comments |
When MTV unveiled their "10 Hottest MCs In The Game" list six months ago, Soulja Boy was barely a blip on the commercial radar. Today, the Grammy-nominated rapper has Supermanned an amazing 65 million hos- and counting- and now he's set his eyes on the top spot in the next installment of the Hottest MCs countdown.
"I think if y'all did it right now, yeah, I deserve to be on there. But back there, when y'all did it, I probably didn't have the status that I have right now.
"I'm Grammy-nominated," he continued, citing his credentials. "If I look at the new list and I compare myself to all 10 of the artists and some don't add up, I'll be like, 'Wow. I should be #1 if it's right now. I'm #1."
"Right now, yes [I'm hotter than them]," he answered as the names of the list's current occupants, Jay-Z and Kanye West among them, were read to him one by one.
"They'll say I opened up a lot of doors for people. The first person who started this, what we call hip-hop, opened the door for me. It probably wasn't a party track or a 'Crank That,' it probably was something way, way, way different than what I'm talking about, but he still opened the door for what I'm doing, and if I never would have did this, [the next] wouldn't come."

I hope he's kidding. He has nothing on any of the rappers in the game right now. That kid doesn't even flow, he just relies on ridiculous "hooks". He deserves to be nowhere near that list just because he released some song that happened to just catch on to the "hip hop" population.
One Hit Wonder.

Today, the Grammy-nominated rapper has Supermanned an amazing 65 million hos- and counting- Well done.
Who's Jay Z or Kanye? Fuck those bitches, Soulja Boy is the king of the game.

His pic was my wallpaper for a day.

Haha I like how he thinks he "opened the door" for people...for who? Seriously, he thinks he's GOOD?! LOL
|
| |
Glad to know he is finally getting some of the cred he obviously deserves.
|
| |
He seems very in the dark about hip hop history by that last quote
|

This guy is the most entertaining rapper ever. EVER! ~sarcasm~

Soulja boy off in this hoooooe
|
| |
just tell me who buys him, or listen to him
lately the grammy (and the oscars) have lost all credibility...
|
| |
Hahaha, what a jackass.
|
| |
He's black.
|
| |
he is kidding right? he thinks that because he rode the backwave of some kind of freaky southern rap trend that he is actually good? further more when did the grammy's start supporting crap like this just because of a hit single?
|
| |
wow. all these musicians dying and they shouldn't be and the ones that deserve it are just shittalking... what a cocky prick.
|
| |
I just find it a little funny that all the radio stations play the travis barker remix rather than the original.
|
| |
He doesn't seem to realize how lucky he is to live in an age when his utter lack of talent in no way inhibits his ability to sell millions of albums.
|
| |
wow
what a dick
|
| |
I hate stupid people, but it's so god damn funny when they pretend to know stuff. Look at him, just look at him! Those apes that stack boxes to get at the bananas are smarter than this little pussy.
|
| |
I have become increasingly more discontent with the grammy's lately, but they always seemed to still reward ACTUAL MUSICALTALENT every once and awhile. This year Wilco is nominated (for probably one of their worst outings in awhile).... now this....
Thank you grammy's.....
You ruined Christmas.
|
| |
I hate him...
|
| |
I don't think he realizes that most awards for music have to do with the quality and that there may be one or two awards for quantity. Those at the Grammy's have to have SOME taste. Right? They only nominated him because idiots requested that he gets nominated? RIGHT? RRIIIIGHT?
|
| |
3 6 mafia won a grammy.... :/
|
| |
in before YAHHH trick YAHHH
|
| |
further more when did the grammy's start supporting crap like this just because of a hit single?
They have always supported crap!
|
| |
Agreed ^
|
| |
what a clown shoe.
|
| |
Why are rappers so cocky about how great they are but if it wasn't for this rap trend and all the braindead people that buy into it he would be collecting welfare just like every other low life drug dealer
|
| |
I'm sure Soulja Boy's career will have longevity...
|
| |
I want him to die
painfully
|
| |
YAHH
|
| |
I don't get why all of you get so agitated over this.
Just don't listen to his music?
|
| |
Without it the internet would just be people making blogs for their kitties.
I would read those
|
| |
Yeah, it probably isn't that cool to make fun of him. In all seriousness he probably has an IQ around 80. I think it's impressive someone so simple has been able to dupe millions into buying his god awful single.
|
| |
he's just gonna be another one-hit-wonder...
|
| |
this is going to cause some serious beef, yo'

haha I'm a white boy from the suburbs and I know a shitload more on the history of hip-hop than this asshole. I assume he's talking about Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang, but he's probably never heard of that. And God help me if he is going to influence future rappers. I don't really care though cause underground rap is still thriving, and that's what I mostly listen to.
