Meshuggah's obZen

From Meshuggah's Blog:
Quote:
Swedish experimental extreme metallers MESHUGGAH have finalized the track listing for their new album, obZen, due in Europe on March 7, 2008 and in North America on March 11, 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The follow-up to 2005's Catch Thirty Three will contain nine songs and will have a running time of around 55 minutes. "It sounds really good and we're super-excited about the new stuff!" drummer Tomas Haake previously stated.

obZen track listing:

01. Combustion

02. Electric Red

03. Bleed

04. Lethargica

05. ObZen

06. This Spiteful Snake

07. Pineal Gland Optics

08. Pravus

09. Dancers To A Discordant System

Haake told Revolver magazine at the end of last year that MESHUGGAH would be returning on its next album to the pummeling double bass drums and angular riffage that defined their early material to sculpt what they say will be their most savage, eclectic offering yet. "We've got some fast, intense songs and hectic, heavy stuff that draws from all the things we've done in the past," Haake said at the time. "It's so great to actually be playing drums again."

MESHUGGAH will support MINISTRY on the North American leg of "C U LaTouR" beginning on March 28, 2008 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Also appearing on the bill is HEMLOCK.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Mushuggah is the band I always listen to the drums really carefully in and try to mimic them. They're one of the few bands I listen to that sound great, and never cease to amaze me at the same time. Gotta love em.

This better be good. If the album artwork  is any indication of the quality of the music, things look em... not so good.

When has Meshuggah ever put out a bad album? I have complete faith that this album will destroy.

I mean, look at their previous album/EPs, awesome cover art - just like music that comes with it. But hey DEI's artwork wasn't too good either.
When has Meshuggah ever put out a bad album?
pre-Destroy Erase Improve is kinda bland for me.

Hmm...I've been meaning to catch these guys live, but I'd prefer them headlining and have no desire to see Ministry. Might have to sit this one out, but will definitetly be checking out the new album!

Meshuggah sounds like Slayer meets Tool meets jazz music meets some electronica meets Dillinger Escape Plan.

:rolleyes:No, they're more like an existential epiphany in the rapture of dehumanisation, whilst eternally tormented in the void by the disembodied ions of degeneration:rolleyes:

As much as I love Meshuggah, people regularly completely exaggerate how their sound as if it were some sort of religious experience of the UnGodMachine or something. Though I loved what Terrorizer said:

"Listening to MESHUGGAH is unnerving, like their overwhelming purpose is to mutate all the sperm in your scrotum in preparation for some unimaginably advanced future race."

Anyone think Pineal Gland Optics sounds like some form of 'sequel' to Closed Eye Visuals?

Their last album was weak so I'm not expecting anything too good for this album.

Their last album wasn't their strongest but it was still good. I'll be looking into this.

what are you talking about? the last three albums (I,nothing, catch 33) sound almost nothing alike and all of those don't sound anything like the records before.

matter of fact between chaosphere and nothing it almost doesn't even sound like the same band.

Catch 33 isn't supposed to be a collection of individual songs that sound different, it's a concept album based around 3 or 4 riffs than utilize certain notes, which differ slightly with each variation.

One of the best metal albums of the past few years.
