Design the Skyline are back x2 2025-10-18 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 43 Comments |
The much-maligned Corpus Christi metalcore group Design the Skyline have returned in a peculiar way this week.
After a period of silence since 2018's visual kei inspired single "In Dreams", Design the Skyline - now consisting of original members Dani Ray and Matt Ryan, released a new single called "Beckoning" on 16 October, along with launching all new social media pages. The song marks a return to the band's deathcore roots.
However, the following day, another Design the Skyline using the band's original socials posted a statement claiming that the version fronted by Eric Azure is the sole legitimate version of the band, along with ressuing their Synthetic Cities EP and Galactical Celebration demo on streaming services. The statement reads as follows:
"OFFICIAL STATEMENT: DESIGN THE SKYLINE Continuity
This page represents the exclusive and official continuation of the band, featuring original founding members and our dedicated current lineup.
We want to clarify our status: Our project has been in active, continuous operation since its inception, evolving our sound for the next massive album follow-up to Lotus and In Dreams.
//EP & DEMO LIVE NOW
To solidify our full catalog history, we've just digitally released our deepest archives:
- The Synthetic Cities EP (The original unreleased EP)
- The Galactical Celebration (The Original Extra Large Kids Demos) (Feat. "Surrounded by Silence")
Stream or download these iconic releases now on Spotify, Apple Music, and all platforms.
All official new music, shows, and news come exclusively from this page and our official links. Thank you for your support."
In response to the statement and re-issues, Dani Ray posted a statement to his personal pages:
"The records that were just released feature my vocals on every single song. Yet I was never given credit, payment, or consent for their release. In recent years, Fake DTS profited from a sold-out vinyl run and ongoing streaming revenue, and I haven’t seen a single cent from any of it.
Soon, I fully intend to receive the compensation I’m owed for my work.
As a founding member, and with no release agreements ever signed, the opposing member cannot legally profit from my vocals or release those recordings without my consent.
The only reason Fake DTS is still operating under the Design The Skyline name is because the opposing vocalist made himself the main admin on the pages years ago and locked everyone else out. The music released over the years under that version of the band doesn’t sound like the original vision or evolution of Design The Skyline.
When it comes to performing live, let’s be real, people are going to want to hear the energy of “Beckoning.” The Fake DTS wouldn’t even be able to perform that song for you live. The true Design The Skyline has that ready.
For years, I’ve carried the frustration of watching releases go out without me, the same feeling they’re probably experiencing now. It was never fair to me or the og fans, and the other vocalist didnt care. Enough is enough. I’m getting older, and it’s now or never. I just made something the right way, and the response speaks for itself.
Fake DTS had over a decade to capture that spark but never delivered a true album or video that lived up to what Design The Skyline was meant to be.
They talk about a “massive” album.
I’ll show you what a real Design The Skyline album should sound like.
Fake DTS had many years, but suddenly after “Beckoning” drops, there’s all this urgency. The band pages were stolen and used to put out only a handful of songs. Been going on since around 2014, our fans were given a lot of false promises.
The reason I say it was stolen is because we signed as a group. This was always a collective agreement. The music ownership should have been handled as a group, not by one person running off and claiming everything as his own. Legally, it doesn’t work that way.
It’s been wrong for years.
Follow the original founding members here on this page, Design The Skyline
We have 3 of the original members, the other page only has 1 opposing member"
Both incarnations of the band claim to be working on a new album.

Truly the darkest timeline

And we've just been signed too... Victory records!
(I hope they got out of their deal for whatever they're doing next, and I'm still puzzled how they got those orange cabs)
|
| |
It would be cool to watch the two sides slap fight
|
| |
What a time to be alive
|
| |
The whole thing is pretty hilarious but in the end the song itself is a boring Count Your Blessings-era BMTH ripoff
|
| |
It's about damn time they put Surrounded by Silence on streaming; I've been waiting for like ten years lol. Absolute banger
|
| |
@peartnoy yet it's an infinite improvement on anything else either version of the band has released.
|
| |
Damn I wanted to compare the new music and see which one sucks worse but the “old band” with the original socials just reissued shit.
As a former big MySpace deathcore kid I actually kinda really like this one lol
|
| |
Batushka.
|
| |
Yeah part of me wonders if this is some weird publicity stunt but I dunno how everyone benefits
|
| |
arguing over their ten dollars in spotify stream revenue
|
| |
I was just thinking about this band for some reason the other day and read over an AMA on reddit from the drummer i think? Granted it was 14 years ago (sheesh time flies) but he made it known signing to Victory was horrible for them and something else about how their manager ruined things so bad that the band just constantly fought each other and parted ways. Was an interesting read to be honest for a "meme band".
|
| |
Site note; how does the vocalist STILL have that garbage ass hair style from the 2011 music video? It's shocking people think that even looks remotely appealing

lmao people really be fighting over this band of all things
over bloody Design the Skyline they be fighting
|

Design the Shitline
|
| |
A new song called Bloodline is apparently being released on October 31. No idea which version of DTS is releasing it.
|
| |
completely forgot about this band
|
| |
Song actually goes hard
|
| |
I'm listening to the new Revocation.
|
| |
This is kinda cool. More music the better, even if it is unfortunate that things have become a bit negative. Maybe some healthy competition?
DTS has always been a heel band but I'm a lover of the underdog so I'm excited to see what comes. Plus I'll always support the scene kids (even to a fault lol)
Also Surrounded being on streaming is great. Way over hated for the time. We gotta stop discouraging people from making music if we don't like it. Music is the food of love. Messy, amateur experiments are my favorite ^^.
|
| |
One of them should go by Undesign the skyline or something
|
| |
Apparently "Bloodline" is from Eric Azure's version of the band.
But I am gonna say Beckoning isn't a bad song. It's very mid, certainly, but MySpace Deathcore fans will eat that shit up.
|
| |
This is like Batushka but for 35 year olds that never outgrew their scene phase.
|
| |
"I’ll show you what a real Design The Skyline album should sound like."
Is that a threat?
|
| |
and on the third day the lord hath risen
|
| |
Man the version of Surrounded by Silence they put on streaming isn't even the version from the music video; it's an older version with shittier production. What a disappointment. Beckoning also sucks, but there's a moment in the music video where dude says "believe my eyes" and points to his face which is entirely covered by his hair and I lost it for like ten minutes lol
|
| |
"Is that a threat?"
No. It is a warning
also @Get Low this song fucking bangs what the hell are you smoking
|
| |
these guys are like cockroaches surviving nuclear fallout at this point
|
| |
Always ignored and stayed away from this band… but now I’m intrigued
|
| |
“This is like Batushka but for 35 year olds that never outgrew their scene phase.”
More like 18 year olds who didn’t live through this shitshow the first time
|
| |
honestly im down for them to fight it out, surrounded by silence was dope and nevaeh was a good time even though it was objectively bad
|
| |
i wanna see you cry bitch oh
|
| |
Verb the Noun
|
| |
"surrounded by silence was dope"
This is a joke right?
|
| |
I keep saying music cannot be objectively bad but Surrounded by Silence stands in defiance of this view.
|
| |
it is defiantly a masterpiece ye
|
| |
i love surrounded by silence, it was ahead of its time
|
| |
Well the 31st is here and no sign of Eric Azure's DTS releasing that song they promised.
However a teaser for it was uploaded.... EIGHT YEARS AGO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xBEKwjeTXY
|
| |
OK The song finally dropped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YmuopYa4SA
They also changed their name to Dreams to Eternity and let the Garza/Ramirez/Ryan incarnation continue as DTS.
|
| |
they speedran their batushka arc real quick
|
| |
Band name dispute any % speedrun WR.
|
| |
I dig this DTE song a hell of a lot more than Beckoning
|
| |
idk the DTE song feels too messy for me
