Evanescence debuts 'Afterlife'

American gothic rockers Evanescence have released a new single - titled 'Afterlife'.

The track debuts as the latest in a trend of classic 2000s-era rock acts being featured on the Netflix Devil May Cry animated series, with Limp Bizkit's 'Rollin'' having recently been announced as the opening theme and Papa Roach's 'Last Resort' seeing usage in the series' official trailer.

Song is surprisingly good.

Better than anything off The Bitter Truth, they've finally shed some of that awful over-compression that absolutely killed the production on that album.

Sounds like an Arcane song, so I guess it's fitting for the context

"Sounds like an Arcane song, so I guess it's fitting for the context"

That's a really good comparison, actually. For all their flaws, Netflix has a pretty decent ear for picking music that fits the material, especially with recent animated works.

Crazy how this band has only released 5 albums in over 20 years btw lol. Genuinely thought they were more active than that. I guess that first album really was too successful for them huh

I'm all for it, the 2020s suck.

This sounds authentic enough to a point where it somehow feels more Linkin Park than Linkin Park.

2010s were peak after the 1990s imo, technology hit its stride and wasn't used to siphon every last dollar from the middle class, and the music was amazing

2000s sucked due to 9/11 and the 2008 shitshow

2020s have been straight dog food and somehow getting consistently worse, everything is shit quality and costs more, and the music has been watered down despite the odd excellent album

The first DMC game was released in 2001. I think they're really going all in on the early 2000's theme.

Don't forget the new Papa Roach song that dropped like a month ago, and a new Three Days Grace album is coming in June as well apparently.

The 2000s are eating good.

Eh. I'll probably give it a peek, but nothing I've seen so far has really gotten me interested.

I swear every band in hardcore, metal, butt rock, etc. from the 90s and early 2000s who have gone inactive are all now active again together at the same time right now. LOTS OF ACTIVITY in music world. Dunno if it’s stir crazy post Covid, midlife crises, or a combination of both.

"Dunno if it’s stir crazy post Covid, midlife crises, or a combination of both."

20/30 year anniversaries - nostalgia isn't just for the fans; it's also for the musicians. There are always decade-long cycles in music, and a big hallmark of the 2020s so far has been 2000s nostalgia.

It's why the term "the rawring 20s" exists
