Whitechapel back to their roots

Deathcore overlords Whitechapel have just released a new track titled "A Visceral Retch", which showcases a return to the brutal and dark sound reminiscent of their early work, particularly their debut album The Somatic Defilement. Stream the song below:

Mixed (but mostly very positive) feelings, i loved The Valley and Kin but my god this smacks and going back to This Is Exile sound is going to be a real treat for sure. Hopefully after this they can find a good middle ground for both sounds.

It's fun seeing Phil write some really twisted stuff again too

Pretty decent. But I never was a fan of this more classic deathcore sound. The Valley and Kin are where it's at for me with these guys

Not the "hey guys! this sounds like our early stuff!".
I was expecting to hate this as such, but it's pretty good. Sounds more like A New Era of Corruption stuff than The Somatic Defilement.

Song rips. Phil has always been the man and probably the number one deathcore vocalist if you ask me.

I love it when people take the comments of detractors personally, as if their identity is invested in the outcome of the band. Don't worry, Whitechapel will write you in the credits as a supporter on the next album

its almost unbelievable a artist actually said "they were going back to their roots" or "its gonna be heavy" and actually came through

“ vocals on this go crazy” 100% this song is insane because of him. Don’t know if I’m interested in a whole album of this though.

Back half is straight fuckin' evil.

I get Phil wanting to remind people who the kings are, but I really really hope the style of the Valley and Kin aren't gone forever.

Yeah I hope there are still songs like When a Demon Defiles a Witch that blend the two.
I really like their more melodic side and I hope it's still there as well

This song is great, love that they've gone back to their heavier stuff but it still shows the growth and development of their latest releases. Excited for the album!

As somebody that jammed The Somatic Defilement and This Is Exile nonstop in high school, I'm digging this pretty hard. Phil's vocals have stayed absolutely top-tier. What I'd love to see is a song with this level of brutality but then also work in some clean vocals, that would be dope.

I wouldn’t give up hope, but doubt that it will happen on this next release, I’d find it hard to pull off both styles on the same album - let’s hope it happens though! Phil is still excellent, and the song is great, I won’t be disappointed if they’ll creat a straight up deathcore album.
