Nekura drop debut EP 2023-11-30 by Eugene Tymchyk | 4 Comments | Members of the renowned Ukrainian bands Septa and The Nietzsche have joined forces to form Nekura, a new screamo band. Their debut EP, inspired by Japanese haiku, explores the themes of painful breakups, blending raw emotion with the intensity of emo music.
This 5-track EP introduces a fresh perspective in the screamo genre. Each track poignantly reflects the heartache of lost love, articulated through the poetic essence of the Ukrainian language. Each song encompasses a diverse range of styles, from emo to blackened hardcore and powerviolence, offering a deep dive into different facets of the genre.
Recorded initially a few months before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the project evolved significantly over the two years of ongoing conflict. The EP underwent a complete re-recording, shifting from English to Ukrainian lyrics, capturing the profound changes experienced during this period. The mixing and mastering were expertly handled by Jack Shirley, renowned for his work with Deafheaven, State Faults, and Frail Body, adding a layer of rawness to the final product.
