can't believe I missed this damn tour. What a strange interview setting with the interviewer half off camera. Lo-fi embodied
|
| |
Psyched
|
| |
Was the band on hiatus for a while? Seems like it's been forever since they did anything. Stoked af either way m/

best news I heard all year
|
| |
holy shit Obscura was written in 1994? Wonder if a release a few years earlier would've made any difference.
|
| |
watched this yesterday. cannot be more excited
|
| |
LETS GO MEN!!!
|
| |
Hell yea
|
| |
Love that Luc's mere mentioning of writing new music warrants an article. Hail Guts, we are so back boys [2]
|
| |
Lmaooo "begin writing"? It's going to come out in 2027
|
| |
Luc was talking about this 3 years ago. Still hyped.
|
| |
Yep, looking forward to this. I have all the time in the world
|
| |
Hype but wake me up when it's finished.
Also Luc seems like the nicest guy in the world

Digging his evolution into the death metal santa claus

“holy shit Obscura was written in 1994? Wonder if a release a few years earlier would've made any difference.”
The earliest Obscura demos are from 1993, they immediately jumped right into the more avant-garde shit right after Erosion. It is interesting the think about how the metal scene might’ve been effected if they’d been able to release it sooner.

RIP Steeve Hurdle, he really pushed the band way beyond death metal. A true visionary.

Best metal band ever best news ever

They were incredible on the recent Cannibal Corpse tour. Luc commented how he's been loving playing the old stuff (:

FINALLY
|

I really don't understand the appeal of this band to be completely honest. Obscura is one of the most most confusing and uncomfortable albums I've ever listened to.
|
| |
lololol
|
| |
ur trippin but I will say that I think their newer shit is better. Obscura is probably like my third or fourth favorite thing this band has made
|
| |
I mean yeah, if dm isn't your jam then X dm band isn't gonna be ur shit.
Obscura is ...really hard to describe. Theres an awful lot going on, and the common denominator is mostly dm, but their primary exercise in making Obscura I think was experimentation. No one has replicated it, and no one ever will. There is a good reason that it's almost universally heralded as one of dm's crowning achievements. But it can be a difficult and frustrating listen at times. Lots of seasoned metalheads can sometimes struggle to wrap their brain around what's going on. But I will definitely say that repeat listens can be rewarding. Overall it's definitely one of the most interesting albums I've ever heard, and it's mystique is surpassed only by each member's uncanny ability to execute their twisted/beautiful vision.

Great news. Its been a while since the latest article from Gorguts in this site.
What was it...? Oh i remember now:
"Luc Lemay drinks a cup of water and takes the dog outsider" (2017)

that's the appeal

“I don’t picture myself like a guitar player, I picture myself more like a composer, and guitar happens to be the tool I’m comfortable to use to express myself.
I’m not a guitar player who writes music, it’s the other way around”
^love these thoughts. It’s how I’ve always described myself too. This comment single handedly made me love Luc more than I already did
|
| |
Agree with rockarollacola. On paper I should like them but nope, they never click with me
|
| |
This was a great interview. He seems like such a cool guy. I also didn’t know Obscura was finished that early, that’s crazy
|
| |
Been going through a massive rekindled love affair with Colored Sands the last few months, so this is officially the best metal news I’ve heard recently. The 7 string shit on that album is some of my favorite guitar playing ever, can’t wait to hear more of that style.

As long as they don't put out the technical wank of their new era, I'm cool.

Colored Sands was so peak, very stoked for this

That's kind of the same mindset Mårten Hagström holds, and both happen to be absolute chads

met luc at this same show. nice guy
i have only had unpleasant encounters with dickmetalfan. my favorite was when he entered the handicap section to stand directly in front of my wheelchair bound buddy and film the show
|
| |
if youve been to a show in atlanta youve met this kid
|
| |
can't wait for the wizard hot takes
|

Obscura was a tough one to get into... I kept coming back partially due to its reputation but also because some moments were genuinely amazing right off the bat even if the album as a whole was way too long and dense. Even now it's definitely not something I can put on on a whim but it has grown on my a ton.
Colored Sands though I can jam almost whenever and it rips everytime
|

LFG
|

That's so wonderful, I love that for them.
