Im both excited to try this but also still sad about the vocalist being medically forced to retire. He is was so awesome.

Pretty great track, bummer about the vocalist

band became obnoxiously shite after monarchy
|
| |
I think if i just ignore all lyrics and never comprehend the meaning behind the vocals and avoid all interviews I can like this direction. Orrrr maybe just listen to the old albums.
|
| |
Did we ever find out the reason for the original vocalist's departure?
|
| |
His hearing and speaking challenges he has had through life got worse even though they had gotten better for a couple years. He is completely deaf now probably.
|
| |
“For me, when I was younger I accepted the disability of not being able to hear correctly but it never stopped me from pursuing the things I wanted to participate in, that I wanted to be a part of. Especially when it came to music. For a very long period of time when I was younger, it didn't really stand in the way."
|
| |
Damn, that's really fucking sad. I had no idea. He was a beastly vocalist. I appreciate the info!

Super glad I got to see them touring Owls. On the venue's smaller, cozy stage, too! Crushing intimate experience.
This is ok. Needs to grow on me since their sound has changed. I hear they got that Andy dude from all those other bands whose names I'm forgetting.
|
| |
We need to get Jake in line for Neuralink. Get that boy back with RoN where he belongs. But really I hope he’s doing ok. How devastating to be out the band like that while they’re riding a big wave.
|
| |
god that is fucking terrible. Poor guy
|
| |
Poor dude it sucks to go out like that wish him the best.
This song is kinda shit though, its bland and boring doesnt go anywhere. Ill listen again but the fact i just tuned out the first time was enough for me to go "this aint it"
|
| |
Decent song, I never realised the singer was literally forced to stop playing music because of his hearing issues, that's really sad to read about.
|
| |
Oh boy. Time to put some work in again.
|
| |
Trying this out now. I appreciate Andy's cleans immediately, love the way that guy belts and I always thought BCI was a superior band to this one so I'm sad to see them die and him wind up here but it's what we get.
Yeah honestly I don't hate this at all. Jake's delivery was incredibly strong and added a lot to their sound and he's definitely missed and it's sad as shit why he had to leave but The Work as a whole was pretty mid and even Owls I think is mid with some moments of true greatness sprinkled in.
This too isn't really mind blowing but I find it a lot more enjoyable right out the gate compared to anything on The Work, Andy's cleans are adding a lot for sure.
I could give a fuck about lyrics if they're not super easy to make out without reading along and they're not particularly strong or really shitty I'm probably not going to notice them at all on the first few listens at least.
|
| |
Hits like a mid Black Crown Initiate song more than any kind of Rivers of Nihil song, good or shit. I had super low expectations so now I'm at least curious to hear more.

Old vocalist was so good. Wish him the best of luck, having to retire from your passion because it is hurting you must be tough. He made his mark for sure.
|
| |
It's so fucking depressing to think about lmao, The Silent Life lyrics hit very hard and very feelsbadman.
|
| |
I forgot that the Black Crown Initiate vocalist ended up here. It makes sense now why I enjoy the cleans on this song so much, the dude has a great voice.
This single is definitely immediately better to me than pretty much everything off of The Work so I'm cautiously optimistic. That said, I definitely miss Jake's unique screams. It really is sad the way it ended for him with this band, hope he's doing OK.
|
| |
Yeah of the 2 bands I wish it was BCI that was still around but I'm curious to see what we'll get from this combo at least.
|
| |
Silent now
The words so loud
My mind is drifting out
Between perception of a dream and what is real
Now all I have is lost with you
I hope that you remember
|
| |
We remember 💜💙💚

Song is pretty damn good. Bassist's growls are on point.
|
| |
I dig this more than anything off The Work tbh

I don't know if you guys have seen this controversy about the bassist, and the reply he's posted. I'd really like to know your take on this
|
| |
Unfortunately not a big fan of the song :/
|
| |
@Mythodea
Literally controversy for the sake of controversy. A nothing burger.
|
| |
This is the new feuds for attention
|
| |
As a socialist, I would say the op kyle is a piece of shit themselves so it really doesnt hold much water coming from that crying lazy baby. The lyrics are obviously dumb conpiracy woke society so we already knew Adam was no sxholar
|
| |
Good lord I had not seen that post about their bassist. Getting deja vu from reading the likes of that idiot-guitarist for The Contortionist.
His response is kind of bullshit too. "I like these posts so my feed isn't an echo chamber!!!"
Every once in a while morbid curiosity makes me read a Conservative subreddit so that I can see how people unlike me form their opinions. I don't go around subscribing to bigoted pages and consuming it though. Weird excuse.
|
| |
You don't go straight to Matt Walsh and Owen Benjamin, who are fascists, for a little sprinkle of opposition viewpoint so you're not in an echo chamber LOL. Follow a fox news pundit or something, nerd.
|
| |
I love this. Song got a little repetitive, but as a whole very enjoyable
|
| |
I will give them credit for not trying to do Owls 2.0.
|
| |
I miss the jazz tho
|
| |
I honestly enjoy their use of sax and it was extra nice live, but pls listen to one jazz before you speak of such things.
|
| |
Okay noob

Couldn't care less about the political views of an artist. If you wanna totally isolate and distance yourself from everybody who doesn't share your political views, you'll live a pretty sad life.
Anyway, great song, had it stuck in my head (in a good way) all day after listening once yesterday.
|
| |
"Couldn't care less about the political views of an artist. If you wanna totally isolate and distance yourself from everybody who doesn't share your political views, you'll live a pretty sad life." [2]
Finally someone with common sense
|
| |
Guy who follows neo-nazis on twitter so he doesn't totally isolate and distance himself from anyone who doesn't share his political views.
|
| |
Yeah, not so convincing these comments now, to me at least... Many more (and better) ways to engage with opposing views other than retweeting and liking posts by LGBTQI+ fearmongers and alt-right profiles. I guess just following these accounts is enough to keep an eye...
|
| |
It probably won't stop me from listening to the music, especially in cases where they haven't themselves committed heinous crimes or gone on alt right anti LGBT rants etc, but I think it's pretty wildly ignorant and a bit telling when people act like it doesn't at all matter/couldn't care less when an artist you care about shows themself to be a big ol' piece of shit.
There are plenty of bands who I really can't listen to the same without feeling that pang of disappointment/having to think about the shitty person or what they did, and even if I'm still able to listen to the music I will always respect someone that won't for their own reasons.
That being said I think digging into peoples follows/likes/views/etc for the most part is shit pointless behavior and in cases like this it is mostly creating controversy about nothing, let him prove himself to be a shithead if that's the case and until then idk, get a life.

So fed up with cancel culture attitudes. Who gives a fuck about his politics.
|
| |
It isn't politics it is morals. 😉 You should stop obsessing over both narratives and stereotypes.
|
| |
I guarantee he has essentially the same morals as anyone else around here. Be chill, don’t hurt others.
|
| |
He's liking tweets by a neo nazi.
|
| |
man some weak human beings making excuses for someone liking neo-nazi posts while condemning cancel culture.
makes sense it was that guitarist too - fucker looks inbred as shit, like his face is trying to slip off his head
|
| |
Who’s the “neo Nazi” in question? That stuff gets thrown around way too loosely these days.
|
| |
Owen Benjamin. Bet you won’t need more than 30 seconds on his wiki page to agree with me lol.
|
| |
Oh I don’t even know who that is. I’m gonna look him up when I’m not driving. Lol

Sounds about right
|
| |
what a sterile debate guys.
|
| |
Like politicians or governments ever gave a fuck about people. Live your life, don't hurt others, and do good whenever you can, easy rules.
|
| |
That's so deep, man.
|

That's so deep man [2]
Biggs' comments from the article -- "I understand why folks here might be upset by the things they've seen in certain posts about me recently. Allow me to first say that I'm in no way a bigot and I support the rights of people from all walks of life, absolutely including friends and fans in the LGBTQ+ community."
He continued, "I've never equated a 'like' as an endorsement of any viewpoint. I use Twitter as a means of keeping my eye on a VAST array of ideas, especially ones separate from my own, as an artist I believe this is an important practice. I like these posts as a way of keeping my timeline from being an echo chamber. I'm no fan of hate mongering celebrity figures either (people like Andrew Tate are clearly horrible), but I do constantly try to understand all sorts of views."
Biggs added, "I apologize for any pain or confusion my activity on this site may have caused anyone. And I'd like to say that it's still encouraging to me that so many of you have connected with my music at some point or another. I'd ask that you trust that my art is truly who I am, not my interactions on this platform."
Not sure what to make of it but I suppose folks will have to discern for themselves.

Maybe these guys just have music coming out soon and want their name spread around first. Could all be coordinated
