Scar Symmetry premiere 2nd single

2023-05-02 by XfingTheSullen | 40 Comments
Swedish metallers Scar Symmetry are pulling no punches promoting their upcoming album The Singularity: Phase II - Xenotaph. After a well-received first single in Scorched Quadrant, a second one is already inbound. As stated on the band's facebook page:
"Phase II and its opening track 'Chrononautilus' picks up where Phase I and its final track 'Technocalyptic Cybergeddon' left off with a barrage of blastbeats and tremolo-picked riffs, setting the tone for what is arguably our most unrelenting album to date. The dystopian storyline that we created for Phase II dictated the musical direction and 'Chrononautilus' represents one of our furthest explorations into these pitch black realms."
The song teaser can be found here:

The full song is already up on youtube and will premiere on Thursday May 4th at 5:00 PM CET.

I wonder if they can top PBP in terms of heaviness, that'd already make it quite heavy

There may be a chance that this could be heavy.

Pitch Black Progress has aged the best for me. Christian sounded the best and most natural on that album, both in terms of clean and growl vocals. While Holographic Universe is incredibly solid, the amount of studio streamlining they did on it kind of irks me.

Never enjoyed this band quite as much with the replacing vocalists, but they were going in a good direction with Neohumanity. I hope they can keep that up with this new effort, despite the break they took.

The new song is out and it's a masterpiece. Doesn't really sound like anything they've done before and it's right up there with their very best stuff

yep the song is up on scar symmetry's own channel even before the music video premiere.

holy holy shit what a track. I didn't expect anything half as good, this is pretty mindblowing holy shit

I think it's safe to say that this album is 2 for 2 over neohumanity when it comes to the singles

Both these singles are great and really keep the core sound of Scar Symmetry! Very excited for this new album! Both singles have been awesome and seems this album will be worth the weight

I dont know why alot of people did not like The Singularity (Phase 1 - Neohumanity) that album was awesome and sounded great! This is like a continuation of that mixed in with some of the Holographic Universe album. Very excited!

Hmm I think Phase 1 is generally well respected, but I do think it's underrated. The immense quality of Phase 1 is why my hype for these guys has endured all this time. It sounded like a bold and fresh new direction for them. Despite there being some great stuff on the other post Alvestam albums, they were somewhat inconsistent and not entirely cohesive at times. They found their most focused and refined direction yet on Phase 1 and Phase 2 is looking like it may be even better

Both singles are awesome! Love both. My only issue is the production. It sounds really bass heavy/muddy and not as clean/clear as it was on Phase 1. I just listened to Technocalyptic Cybergeddon and Chrononautilus back to back in my car, and Techno sounds way better in terms of production/mix. The clean vocals seem to be a little buried in the mix on these new songs also. Does anyone else notice this?

Video seems to be stock video tourette, but the song is fucking fantastic. Great to hear they are back and in good shape, that is.

solution .45 better than this? haha sorry but no way. Music is more than just vocals, and even those aren't like so superior there's no comparison, come on

Yeah this rules. Singles-wise this is as good maybe even better than Phase I. I've probably said this before in the other single thread but I'm eager to see how the rest of the album plays out in comparison.
