Amorphis' The Well 2022-11-04 by Fernando Alves | 8 Comments | Just one week before the kick-off of their co-headlining tour with Eluveitie, Finnish metallers Amorphis shared a brand new track, 'The Well', which is part of the Halo (Tour Edition) digipak that drops today via Atomic Fire Records. The song was recorded during the band's latest studio session and is only available on this CD and digitally. You can stream it below.
" 'The Well' tells a story about an individual causing chaos and mayhem by breaking the principles of society. It is a timeless force phenomenon repeating itself in the history of time; a kind of natural force among the human kind, " vocalist Tomi Joutsen states. "The song itself is drawing some influences from the early Scandinavian early black metal and classic Amorphis vibes. This one is on the heavier side of the material recorded during the Halo album sessions in 2021. "

Good song, digging the darker vibe on it (by Amorphis standards). Still never got around to checking Halo though, need to fix that. They sure do love their ostinato riffs for intro/choruses.

Yeah damn, I wish that would head over to NA, that's a killer lineup. Nailed to Obscurity are a killer up-and-coming group and fantastic live.

Yup that's an Amorphis song alright. Always quality, can't complain.
But I don't really hear the 'early Scandinavian early black metal' in this.

Also, they need to go seriously avant-garde on their next album. They can't keep getting away with this.
