Katatonia Announces New Album

Swedish artists Katatonia will release a new studio album, Sky Void of Stars, on January 20, 2023 through Napalm Records. The band had the following to say about their upcoming release:

"Our 12th album, 'Sky Void of Stars' is a dynamic journey through vibrant darkness. Born out of yearning for what was lost and not found, the very peripheries of the unreachable, but composed and condensed into human form and presented as sounds and words true to the KATATONIA signum. No stars here, just violent rain."

Katatonia are like where Devin Townsend is at this point. Their style hasn't fundamentally changed, but they still find ways to make it sound potent and fresh.

This one is entirely written by Jonas though, which is new. He was predominant on NITND and City Burials but not entire like on here. We'll see what happens. New single is great.

EDIT: Jonas wrote all of City Burials never mind I am a dumb

I like the lead guitar melody, reminds me of some of their early-mid stuff

Great news, even though imo Swedes are past their prime for some time now.

Had no idea they were writing a new album. Loved TGCD and NitND, liked Dead End Kings and TFoH, and couldn't really get into City Burials.

I really liked this song, great vocal melodies. Kind of lost the plot in the bridge, though.

Hmm..after listening to this song 4 times in a row I really began to like it quite a bit. Didn´t care about the last album, but will give this one a try.

"Anything on Fall Of Hearts > This" Well Fall of Hearts is their best album so yeah that's a pretty high bar

Roseville? Sac venues must have been asking for ridiculous cuts.

Interesting that views about City Burials seem consistent - it didn't really do much for me either, whereas I've loved everything since TGCD. Enjoyed the single, hopefully more diverse material to come on the new album.

This is fine, its good but I can definatly get why people may be tired of the sound or believe Katatonia are past their prime.

yoo

honestly didn't really dig this (anything-ish on CB beats it imo) and the production kills me but eh one just has to bask in the unexpcted Katatonia hype

edit: words are just words but the album's bandcamp page makes it sound pretty sweet ngl!
