I kinda like it but i thought they talked about returning to their earlier sound or am i wrong
| |
@Lasssie - They did, then they kinda walked back on that statement and said the album was inspired by Bloc Party.
I honestly like the song, definitely a lot more than anything off AL, but I also think it's pretty dumb that the album doesn't come out till next year.
| |
These rollouts are egregiously fucking stupid lol
| |
Basically they pulled a Good Nature.
| |
Everybody is doing long rollouts rn... Must be something algorithmic
| |
i imagine artists of paramore's clout do it in order to sell more tickets for the tour but even a lot of smaller artists have been doing it lately yeah
always seems to me that there's more hype around a release when it drops out of nowhere / a week after the first single
| |
Man that song sucked too lol
| |
Song is different, but it rules. Definitely a weird comeback single but makes me interested in what the album is gonna be. Long rollouts suck. I much prefer the month or less style.
| |
banger but chorus caught me off guard the first time
really good 2007 post-punk revival energy here in a way that doesnt feel derivative of that but reflective of its best qualities like its catchiness and off-kilter energy
| |
also don't think five months is that egregious a rollout, there's been far worse and i'm patient enough
| |
Five months is just a long time for a band that hasn't dropped anything in over five years. Just kinda feels unnecessarily long to me
| |
@Tundra - that's what people kept saying about me not liking After Laughter lol
| |
Oh okay sorry Tundra this is the best song ever omg :' )
| |
im completely indifferent to this
ngl i was really hoping for an after laughter 2, love that album
| |
okay song. Since when is the drummer back in the band tho?
| |
“those who dont like this just want to be edgy/contrarian“
That’s funny cause that’s typically you lol
I knew this was how it was gonna sound but I still can’t help but be disappointed. It’s catchy too but just not a style I typically ever wanna listen to. Good for them doing what they want but I have no desire to revisit stuff like this
| |
@henry - He came back around 2016 I think, in time to record After Laughter.
| |
Feels like Zac’s Halfnoise is bleeding over into this a bunch to me. The music and the general aesthetic
| |
> those who dont like this just want to be edgy/contrarian
> 99% of post-punk is trash including Talking Heads so this is the best post-punk song by default
| |
@nash - I agree, which is why I wasn't super thrilled when they brought him back into the band. Seems like a good dude but was on a completely different wavelength from the rest of the group at the time.
| |
^ yep, totally
| |
While everyone and their mother is trying their hand at pop punk revivalism, Paramore was brave enough to double down on the path they were going before...
So much for the return to their old sound they promised. Tbh I was expecting a mixture of S/T and After Laughter, which I guess would have been tonally inconsistent, so kudos to them for picking one and sticking to it?
That said, Farro's drumming is really the only interesting thing going on here. Williams' voice is restraining so much relative to what its capable of. I guess this format is not calling for any bombast, but nonetheless. The same problems I had w/ AL and Williams' solo stuff are present here; it just has an offputting, adversarial and lowkey pretentious vibe to it. In short, it sounds really fucking white. That's the best way to put it. To steal from a forgotten Sputniker, "a stench of lilac"
| |
I like what is going on here instrumentally, just do not care for the chorus at all and think Hayley is boring in this
| |
boring as fuck
| |
@Shamus - It sounds white, what the hell are you going on about? I mean besides the racism.
| |
@Shamus - Lol you had me up until the "sounds really white" part.
@Slex - I kinda agree about Hayley being boring, I'm not huge on the really breathy way she sings the verses. It's the same way she sings a lot of her solo stuff too.
| |
ahhhh the racism understanders have logged on
yeh it sounds white as fuck
| |
This is an outstanding amount of mediocrity
| |
So, Paramore still sucks? Got it... Moving on.
| |
lol @ people thinking you can be racist to white people
| |
huh
| |
more like 'this is white' amirite
| |
Solid 3/5. Too Petals for Armor to me.
| |
I don't have a dog in this fight but why tf did a thread about a new Paramore song lead to a debate about racism?
| |
seriously how could u guys allow this to happen
| |
joyful you have a very loose definition of debate lol
there has been literally no debate or even an argument or anything
| |
white people arguments
| |
@Mort - I was mostly kidding, I know there hasn't been a lot of back and forth, I just thought it was funny for racism to come up at all in a thread like this.
| |
Yeah her vocals have been the most off putting aspect of the band for me since AL
| |
song is OK. still really hoping they just do post-rock or hazy dream pop at some point.
| |
This sounds like the not so good parts of After Laughter, i just wish she would do something more interesting vocal wise
| |
blew all her skill points on the s/t, now she can only do normal performances until she levels up again
| |
Racism? lol i'm as white as Paramore is. I mean to say their music sounds white as in comically gimmicky and put on. This song actually inspired me to revisit After Laughter for the first time in ages and I think I treated AL too harshly, bc at least Hayley's voice is not smothered and her delivery is not laughably bad
thanks for the warm reception, Feather
| |
@ Drifter you *can* be it just isn't anywhere close to being as commonplace as racism towards POC
| |
It’s no Brick By Boring Brick but it is boring
| |
wig
| |
I actually liked this more than l expected.
| |
don't like it personally, not much of a hook and her vocals are underwhelming
| |
Wow, what a crap song.
| |
Song is solid. Sounds sorta white, dunno if anyone else noticed that, but so did Talking Heads tbh
| |
“lol @ people thinking you can be racist to white people”
Sheep.
| |
RIP Coolio
| |
I like the video
| |
After Laughter rules hard! I was hoping for something a bit more colourful and fun, but this sounds pretty cool. I'd have happily taken an After Laughter part 2 though.
| |
This is in fact very much like a fusion of paramore's own different styles.
| |
nice tune
| |
i would never call myself paramore fan but i love all their music, i don't know how that works
| |
kiiiiiiiiiiiiinda sounds like an extension of her solo work tho
| |
Stupid chorus won't leave my brain
| |
Song’s a jam looking forward to more like this
| |
Yeah this is better than everything on that last album
| |
lmao absolutely not
| |
dang, people be having a lot of takes about paramore
| |
self-titled is best, agreed
| |
no
| |
After Laughter is easily the best lol
| |
"Brand New Eyes is best" [2]
| |
[3]
| |
brand new eyes is so overrated lol
and i hate that word but for once its true
| |
Shut up
[4]
| |
As long as I breathe I'll never understand how people can think BNE is overrated and yet worship After Laughter.
| |
dang, billie eilish feat
| |
@Gia - Where'd you read that? I haven't been able to find any other info on the tracklist since this song came out.
| |
Another reunion no one wanted
| |
@Joy
Just graced my mind since they had a (kind of lacklustre) performance together, and idk tiktokers would love it te-hee
| |
@pizza
And mine ( ̄∀ ̄)
| |
Brand New Eyes is best [12]
| |
I just read in their interview with The Guardian that Taylor and Hayley are dating. I find this incredibly trite 🙄
| |
history repeats itself
| |
trite? you mean white
| |
Brand New Eyes sucks [13]
| |
no
| |
Riot is their best
| |
no 💔
| |
WOAH I NEVER MEANT TO BRAG
BUT RIOT IS BY FAR THEIR BEST
WOAH IT WAS NEVER MY INTENTION TO BRAG
RIOT IS BY FAR BETTER THAN THE REEEEEST
| |
Not super crazy on Riot (some grating moments) but Brand New Eyes is great. After Laughter is also fantastic, arguably their best albums! Self-titled also isn't half as bad as its made out to be.
| |
“history repeats itself”
Right? Maybe if you didn’t want so much drama you’d stop dating your coworkers 😆
| |
s/t is their best by far sput hates facts and logics yeah
| |
no 💔
"Right? Maybe if you didn’t want so much drama you’d stop dating your coworkers 😆"
lord knows what kinds of shenanigans we're gonna get in future albums if we get more drama again
| |
I can envision a Zac and Hayley only Paramore lmao.
We kicked Taylor out cause awkward
| |
Okay so I think I legitimately like this indie-pop-rock version of Paramore, go figure
| |
I should write a review on this is why without even listening to it
| |
Brand New Eyes is one of my favorite albums ever. Wish they would return to that sound but I don't hate the newer stuff.
| |
