New Sigh LP, August 26th

2022-06-15 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 22 Comments
Japanese avant-garde black metallers Sigh unveiled a new song, 'Mayonaka No Kaii', off their forthcoming full-length Shiki, out August 26th via Peaceville Records. You can stream it below.

"The song is kind of a culmination of what Sigh have been up to. Whistle scream, throat singing, Uriah Heep like vocal harmonies, vocoder, flute solo, shakuhachi solo, Hammond solo and the great guitar solo by Fred – it’s got everything! Although it’s only 5-minute long, it’s a very dramatic song with many aspects. The title stands for ‘a strange incident at midnight’, and it’s based on actual weird experience I had .. Long story short, I experienced midnight twice in one night! You can read the details at the end of the video. We have been working with Costin for a long time, so we were 100% sure that he’d be the best guy to visualize my eerie experience, and how did it turn out? You all see for yourselves!" Mirai Kawashima.

The concept and artwork is based around a traditional Japanese poem, and on ‘Shiki’ Mirai explores how at this stage of life he himself is going through Autumn, with Winter coming soon, and so empathises with the contrasting sentimental feelings from watching cherry blossoms (a symbol of spring) in full bloom.

The album was recorded across multiple studios, and mixed and mastered by Lasse Lammert at LSD studios in Germany.

Shiki tracklist:
1. Kuroi Inori
2. Kuroi Kage
3. Shoujahitsumetsu
4. Shikabane
5. Satsui - Geshi No Ato
6.Fuyu Ga Kuru
7. Shouku
8. Kuroi Kagami
9. Mayonaka No Kaii
10. Touji No Asa

Will check for sure, was jamming Hangman's Hymn yesterday. Didn't really love the last couple records, but there are some real gems in their catalog.

Hangman's Hymn was my introduction to Sigh in about 2008 - one of my least favs now (but perhaps it's partly due to being played-out from fevered, drunk, incessant binge-listens)

have never truly been disappointed by Mirai & crew - then again I've been bumpin at least 50% avant-garde in most cases since '95 (Bungle's Disco Volante & 'Travolta' and some other experimental stuff from around that time changed my outlook on music permanently)... so wherever Sigh roll, I tend to roll with them even at times where things seems jarring/abrupt/out-of-place =D art doesn't need to be justified!

nice, Aug, chuff'd aF, etc.

Vibing with this track pretty hard, if the whole album is this good we are in for a treat. The production might be the best they've ever had

Their stuff is all so different, but yeah they are pretty unique. I bought Imaginary Sonicscape on a whim when it came out and it blew my mind with how weird it was. This is bringing back some In Somniphobia vibes which is among my 3 favorite SIGH albums, so i'm pumped. And I'm digging the mix, which I can't say about their last couple albums.
