Just like the last song, it feels like both leads and vocals are competing for the spotlight at the same time, thankfully there seems be a instrumental version coming along with it, I will probably listen to instrumental versions more

These are a fucking mess. Nothing jives at all. It’s like two different songs on top of each other lol

Oof this is frustrating. Cut some of the leads or vocal parts and this would be a good song so they're not jumping all over each other and this would be a good song.

This is horrible. The vocals ruin the material plus the mix is terrible. Letchford can fuck off.

Can Courtney write a lyric without "I" or "my" in it. Self absorbed much?

First single was good, this is not. Her vocal style doesn’t even go with this track.

Your rich wife buy you that guitar Chris?

Yeah this is a strange one. I love Courtney's vocals but this is bizarre. It sounds like Chris sent her a tempo and some chords and said "write a few bars", then just fucked off and sunk her volume and wrote whatever guitar noodling he wanted to and slapped it on top.

It just keeps getting stranger the longer I listen. It's like two separate songs. How did Anup mix this? I can hardly focus on anything nor understand Courtney's cadence. There's no groove. What.

>Can Courtney write a lyric without "I" or "my" in it. Self absorbed much?
True, but so do most vocalists. Courtney writes a lot of deeply personal songs so it usually fits.

Yep, this one doesn't work either. I don't know how Chris thought it would be a good idea to add vocals to his usual style of guitar-centric hodgepodge of unrelated sections. Once again, not the singer's problem, and I'm guessing the same thing will happen with the rest of the album. These songs are just not made with vocals in mind, so they simply cannot work, no matter who does them.

It’s absolutely not cohesive at all, but I did like the two songs being performed simultaneously as separate pieces. Definitely better than the last trash fire of a track

Yeah I've done no research on this one, but I'll assume he wrote these guitars ages ago and then is only now hiring vocalists to sing over top? Kudos to them but Chris made it kind of impossible. He has no sense of rhythm or structure. This is the kind of aimless noodling that impressed me when I was a teenager but not anymore.

Yeah that's why I didn't like his last album at all. It didn't have a single thing of what made Scale the Summit a good band. I found it was completely uncohesive and forgettable noodling through and through, and that time he wasted the guests' potential too, but at least it was less obvious. I literally cannot remember a single riff or solo from that album despite being the most recent one, while I haven't listened to the actual StS band albums in ages and I still remember most of them perfectly. Goes to show that indeed, when left on his own he has no sense of structure or flow in songwriting.

Horrendous mixing and cohesion nowhere to be found at all. The instrumentals give no reason at all for vocals to be intertwined with them. It's so poorly done

Yeah, this definitely sounds like two separate directions. It matches up at a couple points, but it's really obvious that an active discussion would've been massively beneficial here. Like...
The intro is fine because the vocals are filling in the atmosphere.
But then at :36... you would think that one guitar note would be more minimal, but it's just wailing when I'm trying to focus on the softer vocals. It actually would've been less distracting if he was shredding.
1:20 should be split into separate lead and vocal sections; Recurrence would add structure.
By 2:12, I'm really not sure what any point in the structure is anymore.
Next time, don't just mash two versions of the same song together? I'd rather hear this without leads, if there's also one without vocals; That's way more logical to me.
And it's a liiiiittle ironic that the visual appeal of this video is a reminder of the kind of thing people go to nature to forget about.

Agree on the mixing, something about the drums that sounds really flat, bass is pretty much non existent, I have to hear it on loud speakers to get the bass rumble to notice it.

The music itself sounds decent at best, but it really sounds like the singer improvised vocal lines in a handful of takes, and threw it over some StS demos that were scrapped, without much thought to a melody. I don't get the sense that he actually wrote any of the music so far with the vocalists, because neither the vocals nor the guitar have room to breathe in the arrangements, fighting each other for the spotlight. It's definitely not horrible, but it's just not nearly as well thought out as it should have been, and would have benefited with more time, better direction, and probably less ego. Letchford seems to have lost his magic, once the original band disintegrated.

You guys, you guys, I cannot stress enough how much this isn't just "not-great", but how confusing it is as a released piece of music. Try as I might, I cannot hear a connecting thread between the vocals and the instrumentals. They don't clash or collide, they simply exist independently, doing their own thing.

Yeah, this really does sound like he just wrote a StS song and then thought mebbe it'd be coo to have some vox over the top and no one felt the need to make it actually work together

He should look up Malmsteen's 80s stuff and learn how to interact with vocals.
