Get hyped folks, it's happening.
| |
my ass is ready
| |
My cock
| |
That just about covers it I guess
| |
crack-up was crap tbh
debut's still their best
| |
That's downright blasphemous, you should repent.
| |
helplessness blues>crack-up >>>>>>> debut
| |
Not really. Crack-up has the lowest avg on rym and for good reason
| |
Looks like it'll be live streaming tomorrow morning folks:
https://www.fleetfoxes.co/shore
| |
Acceptable ranking, ryus, as long as crack-up ain't number one
| |
Debut is best agreed Pika! Each new one was a step down quality wise for me, will they continue with this trend?
| |
I'm the opposite, each album has been a step up.
| |
Crack-up was basically textbook pleb-tier indie folk, vapid and substanceless
Debut has the best songwriting, helplessness was a bit of a step down but still pretty neat.
| |
"Crack-up was basically textbook pleb-tier indie folk, vapid and substanceless"
Are you kidding me? It is by far their most advanced album structurally and that's not a subjective take. It's less catchy than the previous two but nothing about it is textbook.
| |
LET'S GOOOOO
| |
I thought the debut was very sweet, honest, down to earth and had lots of soul. They replaced those attributes with more and more bombast, pretentiousness and theatre with each subsequent release, thus losing the core of what made them compelling in the first place, at least for me.
| |
"They replaced those attributes with more and more bombast, pretentiousness and theatre with each subsequent release"
Which is exactly why I loved each album more and more haha. I disagree about it replacing the soul though, I'd say it's in addition to it.
| |
im w/ sowing, robin >>>>>>> john
HYPED
| |
I find the debut to be very subpar. For me what makes the subsequent releases significantly better is the experience factor. I find the debut to be a slog of a listen from front to back. I also don't find the lyrics as boisterous as what they would do on Hoplessness Blues and Cracked. But hey what do I know
| |
Haha, oh opinions!
I'll still check the new one, who knows they've found the golden middle ground that makes us all happy!
| |
No way this is gonna be better than Crack-Up, but here's hoping.
| |
Woah, this is awesome. Band rules, all three of their LPs are top-notch
| |
Yeah it's going to be almost impossible to top Crack-Up but it can still be a 5 without matching that quality which speaks to how talented these guys are
| |
lol, came here to say inb4 Sowing. Should have known he published the article
| |
last album only 3 years ago feels like 10 years ago.
| |
Terrible band but I thought the first LP was at least mediocre when it first came out.
| |
"debut's still their best"
Thats their most basic bitch album, what.
| |
crack-up's their best, hoping this'll be a continuation of that sound
| |
Sometimes basic bitch is best!
| |
CU > HB > FF
No album of theirs is worse than a 4.5/5 though
| |
I think i had the s/t at a 4, but its been a long time since ive heard it.
Looking at the artwork for Shore, it must be a continuation of Crack-Up, both covers have a similar thing going on.
| |
Ah and there it is:
https://pitchfork.com/news/fleet-foxes-releasing-new-album-shore-tomorrow/
It's official!
| |
OH SHIT
| |
oh good, more crap hippie millenial bluegrass folk horseshit. just what 2020 needs.
| |
There is NO fucking way they're just dropping a brand new LP out of nowhere tomorrow. My money's on it being a new signal. Either way, hype HYPE HYPE HYYYYPE
| |
Plllleeeeeaaaase be more like Helplessness Blues
| |
Sadbois rejoi- wait that cant be right
| |
Agreed. Helplessness wasn't as technically impressive as Crack Up but it's far more palatable with some glorious choruses. I like their catchier stuff.
| |
The irony of someone calling fleet foxes hippie folk horseshit while fiving anything made by mark kozelek. Fucking lol
| |
lol bruh why are u responding to that
the dudes username is "GrandpaFred"
| |
I never miss an opportunity to shit on mark kozelek and his music, that's why
| |
Yeah I can endorse that comment. Mark Kozelek is a wad
| |
red house painters and ghosts of the great highway are quite gud
dont think anyone can dispute that hes a piece of shit
| |
I like rhp, but his skm stuff is just vomit-inducing
| |
hype
| |
personally dig the more experimental approach that seems to layer on more with each release, not to say the debut isn't something special. the best acts evolve. these guys breezily shift their sound and Crack Up was their densest journey yet, Helplessness their most polished, debut their most folk.
| |
[2]
| |
agree with all of what zoso said. i think they have gotten better with each release
| |
Pika has some of the worst opinions on here huh
Crack-Up is fucking amazing
| |
Of course a Fleet Foxes article would use the word "forthcoming"
| |
Alliteration ftw
| |
Surprised that's not the name of the album lol
excited for this tho, I prefer their now stuff way more than their older work
| |
Sensing some resentment against this band's perceived pretentiousness lol
| |
I get why some people don't like Fleet Foxes, can't see why anyone would find them pretentious though
| |
i could see someone calling crack-up pretentious
| |
fair enough, I only heard it once and barely remember it (but I remember it being really really good)
| |
Well the fact that they are releasing the album on the autumnal equinox is a bit pretentious, but I love it
| |
Every album is great
FF for spring
HB for autumn
CU for winter
| |
I love pretentious artists
There I said it
| |
Same tho
| |
Pretentious Count: 7
This word is being abused. For a small monthly payment, you can help end this poor word's suffering.
| |
Also every single Fleet Foxes album feels like a summer record to me idk why
| |
literal meanings be damned sandwich this is 2020
| |
Hating on the word pretentious is pretentious
| |
You're not wrong
| |
I feel bad for all the properly pretentious people getting lumped together with normal artsy types.
When will it end?
| |
"Well the fact that they are releasing the album on the autumnal equinox is a bit pretentious, but I love it"
Sputnik loves that "this is a summer album, this is a winter album, etc" shit though
| |
The Father John Misty types are all weeping
| |
I'm pretentiously judging all of you, thanks.
| |
2020 has been just stacked with surprise releases hahaha. I'm so here for it.
| |
Sweet, looking forward to it.
| |
less than a halfhour bois
| |
The Equinox is upon us
| |
happening in 2 mins
| |
here we go baby
| |
it's on spotify! downloading it at work now so i can listen to it as i'll be walking to another job for approx an hour soon, fits perfectly :]]
| |
someone else singing on the first track hmm
very pretty
| |
very pretty indeed
| |
Second track was awesome too. Felt very melodic/structured compared to Crack-Up.
| |
Can I Believe You is my favorite so far. So wistful damn.
| |
Can I Believe You was so gooood! I really love their sound on this album so far!
| |
Me too. Very much like Helplessness Blues thus far but with better production.
| |
Agreed. And dare I say a more mainstream approach in terms of melodies and song writing/structures (so far), which I’m really enjoying.
| |
bit of a grower so far but Can I Believe You is gold
more straightforward than Crack-Up or Helplessness
| |
I agree with that assessment so far. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Jara was good but probably the least impressive song so far.
Good God, Featherweight is sooooo lush.
| |
That piano instrumental break - really digging Featherweight!
| |
Jara was least noteworthy but it had a beautiful intro
| |
A Long Way Past the Past sounds like vintage Helplessness Blues
Seriously could have come straight off that album
| |
Omg horns
I'm sold lmao
| |
love the horns in the back on A Long Way
| |
Hahaha A Long Way Past the Past sold me with that thumping almost rock n roll intro. Throw in horns and I’m already saying AOTY with 8 songs to go
| |
Yeah this is gonna be on a perpetual loop all fall
| |
starting now and whoa femvox on first track!!!
| |
A Long Way best song so far boiz m/
| |
hmm based on these comments i'm excited but also a lil scared since it doesn't seem to be a continuation of the long winded crack up sound?
| |
Would agree about A Long Way but hol’ up Maestranza comin in making me feel things off the bat with it’s funky vibes
| |
It's closer to HB than CU. Also more accessible.
| |
soundin nice n pleasant--maybe too pleasant? idk this feels kind of sterile and over-polished so far. hopefully i change my mind
| |
Maestranza is now my fav
| |
Yeah it definitely opts for "glistening" over "earthy", but it's too soon for me to decide if that's an improvement or a step down.
All the melodies have been breathtaking so far.
| |
That's what I'm afraid of too, Ryus. I fear the record will lose steam over the course of several listens
but ye Maestranza is great too
| |
i love robin's voice tho
idk, i want my fleet foxes pastoral instead of "glistening" like sowing said.
| |
Right as you say that, It's Not My Season is pretty pastoral lol
| |
Haha was going to say that Sowing. Quiet Air bringing the vibes. Album has strong percussion too, really keeps the album moving. Each song seems short/ends and leaves me wanting more
| |
Really digging "Featherweight"
| |
Yeah they definitely opted out of the progressive/classical folk of Crack-Up. That's fine because I wouldn't want them to rest in their laurels, but these are much more clean cut "folk songs" sort of like on Helplessness Blues.
| |
honestly I'm appreciating the slightly simpler sound so far as I thought Crack-up, while excellent, was a bit overwrought in places.
| |
Just got back from work and I have no clue what song is on the youtube live thing right now.
Like what I'm hearing though.
| |
yeah i expected them to dial it back
gonna finish later but not sure how to feel about this yet
| |
It's on Spotify, Sandwich. You can listen in order if you prefer.
| |
Quiet Air/Gioia was nice, very much in the vein of standard FF.
Going-to-the-Sun Road just threw me for a loop in the best way possible with that little brass flourish
| |
Oh wow these horns
Might be the best song yet
| |
Oh, I thought they were just dropping it and not posting it anywhere else. Thanks.
| |
yeah I'm spinning on Spotify, gotta get those scrobbles
| |
love these Going-to-the-Sun Road horns
edit: damn Sowing is like 1 minute ahead of me
| |
I feel like it's getting better as it goes along
| |
Thymia is gorgeous...woooow
| |
Yeah that's my favorite song so far and just put this squarely back in the running for a hype 5
Edit: I was responding about Going to the Sun Road
| |
Thymia was gorgeous, felt a little bit like an intro or outro. Brief but breathtaking.
| |
Love the early energy on Cradling Mother
| |
wow Cradling Mother is a banger
| |
Yeah this album is backloaded
| |
Holy shit Cradling Mother is now my favorite lol
| |
Damn, Cradling Mother was amazing. Might be in my top 3 songs. That 6/8 time sig switch up being mathy bois
| |
Spinning now, band really can do no wrong.
| |
yeah the end of Cradling Mother is *muah*
damn already the last song? didn't even realize 50+ minutes have passed
| |
"Yeah this album is backloaded"
sweet im excited, i only heard up to featherweight
| |
Interesting album, kinda blends together but is most impressive in the last third imo
| |
The t/t closer melted my heart
Literally
I'm dead
| |
I'm on Featherweight now and it's my favorite track so far
| |
ok so this was a great first listen
waiting for the Sowing 5/5 rev
| |
Wow...I have never enjoyed a Fleet Foxes album so much so immediately before - normally they grow on me through repeated listens. Hope it grows even further, but this is right up there on a first listen with Helplessness Blues.
| |
This was stunning. Made my week.
| |
I might still end up preferring Crack-Up in the long run, but this was a worthy follow up for sure
| |
Shore was such a beautiful ending. Front to back such a good album on first listen
| |
Are there any 8 minute songs leading into dying elephant noises on this one
| |
nope
| |
Dying elephant noise-free? Subtract some points.
| |
what a nice way to start autumn, didn’t really pay much mind to the companion video and watched my own sunrise instead
| |
Yeah the video looked cool but I was trying not to get sucked into it too much because I wanted to pay attention to the music
| |
Well this is beautiful as expected
| |
Going To the Sun Road is wonderful
| |
Young Man's Game to Quiet Air / Gioia is killer
As long as we're posting highlights.
And Cradling Mother, missed that one.
| |
This sounds even better on second listen
| |
this is a classic sowing reaction to a new album
| |
Haha I immediately jumped for another round of Shore too. Featherweight really hit home this play through
| |
They don't make albums like this anymore
| |
going to the sun road is rly good
| |
I thought that one was skippable
| |
Joining the listening party. Wading In Waist-High Water caught my attention with that simple repeated melody. Very "opening-song-on-a-folk-album"-esque, but that's a trope I really enjoy. And the melody itself is gorgeous.
Can I Believe You. Repeat listens immediately. This is probably a single, and so catchy. Something you can just put on no matter what and enjoy.
I can't wait to see where this album goes if it's backloaded as y'all say. I'll keep you updated as I can
| |
Oooh, yeah, the percussion drives a lot of these songs. Especially compared to 'Crack Up', where a lot of the songs do not have drums at all, or the drums appear a minute or so in. This album, the drums are right there at the front and set the tempo immediately.
"A Long Way Past the Past"...the song is excellent. It's an old-school R&B song wearing a folk costume. I want Anderson .Paak, Frank Ocean, or Childish Gambino to do a cover of this song. But, like, keep the exact same music--just replace the vocals. Bet it would fit in on any of their albums.
