New Dir En Grey single

2019-09-22 by Eons | 16 Comments
Japanese metal band dir en grey have released a new single entitled "The World of Mercy". The song is included on an EP of the same name.

The song has an edited 3:00 long music video version as well as the full 10 minute long version. The music video seems to focus on suicide and may be disturbing for more sensitive viewers. Both versions can be seen/heard below.

The delightfully unsettling chord on the 1:10 mark of the 10 minute version is absolutely exquisite.

I like it, the drum production still needs some work though

Technically, the whole release is considered a single, not an EP, but I do think it feels more like an EP so whatever.

Song rules, the acoustic Dozing Green rules, and the live rendition of Grief rules. Can't wait for my deluxe edition to come in.

Deluxe edition of this is great. Especially the live bluray, which has performances which vastly improve upon the original album versions.

I like it a lot. I'm one of those who quite enjoyed TIW despite its flaws (except for the production, which is atrocious), but I'm liking this a bit better than most of that album so it's all good. The production is still pretty meh, but a step up. Songwriting is still a bit more choppy than I'd like in some parts but overall very solid and well developed. It reminds me of Arche more than anything, so it's all good.
And the acoustic version and live performance are simply great, as usual.
