Riff is Jaden Smith "Watch Me." Vocal patterns are oddly similar to Imagine Dragons "Believer." Composition is lazy. They are jumping headfirst into cesspool of revolving doors that is modern radio rock. The world has too many Shinedowns, Breaking Benjamins, Three Days Graces, it does not need more. The reason rock as a genre is so stagnant is NO ONE HAS THE BALLS TO DO SOMETHING NEW.

Not true, there’s plenty of bands in the underground scene releasing great music. Check out practically anything on Holy Roar records as well as bands like State Faults, Birds In Row, Gouge Away and Petrol Girls.

Sounds about right. It makes me laugh how Matt Tuck from Bullet for My Valentine defended the style change on their last album by saying 'metal's gone a bit stale', yet now his band is on the same label as Employed to Serve.

@Kurai: Didn't Jason say in an interview that they tried to go heavy on that album but it simply didn't feel right for the mood of the writing though? I gotta say I believe Jason's take most of all, Venom felt a bit too safe and didn't have the same emotional pull.

I don't know since I don't follow Bullet anymore (I only know of Matt's comments due to the backlash it got, with the head of Holy Roar writing a massive article proving that Metal isn't stake), but BFMV have just been trend hopping from the beginning. They started as a Nu Metal band in the late 90s called Jeff Killed John before changing to a metal core sound to capitalise on that hype train with The Poison. Scream Aim Fire was an attempt to win over the crowd who hated them for 'not being real metal', while Fever and Temper Temper were attempts to cater for the mainstream rock crowd. Venom was an attempt to win back fans of The Poison while last year's album was cashing in on the Bring Me The Horizon stadium rock hype train.

@Kurai: That's a fair assessment I suppose. But as a fan, I think there's a little bit more to it than that.

"Fever and Temper Temper were attempts to cater for the mainstream rock crowd." I feel like Fever did a way better job than Temper Temper at capitalizing on that crowd because it felt far more genuine.

And Venom came off way too safe meanwhile Gravity's a far more genuine sounding release to me - it's like the second incarnation of Fever in that regard.

Disclaimer: I actually did enjoy their self-titled record, despite the not-so-good mixing.

It seems as if Asking Alexandria is continuing in the style that their self-titled album was going for...except this time, the mixing is even WORSE than their self titled. The drums sound horrendous. Snares sound muted, and the cymbals sound like GarageBand samples. I would like the main guitar riff of the song if it didn't dominate the whole entire track...it's comparable to a EDM group sampling the same melody continuously in a song.

While not the worst thing I've heard, this is definitely below average.

This is at least passable in that regard. Not GOOD, but a step up. Songwriting wise, it's right smack in the middle between the better tracks on that album and the worst tracks on there.

Reading this comment thread...I checked out the new SWS song. Haven't listened to that band in a long, long while. The new SWS song is kind of awkward? A comment above mentioned how it sounded similar to 'Hybrid Theory era Linkin Park B-Side'. I completely agree in terms of songwriting/production, but the vocalist's voice just does NOT fit that style at all. Goes to show how certain voices are only suitable for certain genres. However, I'll be passing that song around to get other people's takes on it...despite its obvious mediocrity, there is something fascinating there.
