The End Of Chimaira? 2006-04-26 by pattern_recognition | 22 Comments | Chimaira's future looks to be in doubt, after both the dissolution of their contract with Roadrunner Records and a curious incident involving frontman Mark Hunter.
On the 22nd of this month, Marky mark apparently returned home 'for personal reasons' leaving his bandmates to soldier on without him. To their credit, they played their scheduled shows in Detroit, using God Forbid's Byron Davis on vocals, with support from the singers of other bands on the tour. They even let some kid from the audience sing Pure Hatred, the song they closed with.
At this point, no one seems to be breathing a word about what's really going on here.
They're willing to talk about their split from Roadrunner, though. The official statement the band released following the split maintains that they and Roadrunner have not been seeing 'eye to eye' on some key issues...supposedly, they asked to be let out of their contract, and Roadrunner complied.
It's anyone's guess what's behind all this, but for a band who've been showing great improvement from album to album, and whose last two records have been really good pieces of modern metal, it's a sad thing to see it all come off the rails in the space of a week.
Let's hope it all turns out fine.

That would be a bummer, they put on a great show. I still prefer Impossibility over self titled tho.
| | | Me too, but it shits me that they've pretty much disowned Down Again these days. It's one of their best songs, so what if it mixes clean vocals with screams? So what if it's their most 'radio friendly' song? I was so pissed that they didn't play it when I saw them...
| | | bands always have their ups and downs, but i doubt this is going to result in a breakup, their career was is in real good shape so it would have to be something big to result in an official breakup
| | | i like these guys, altho i cant get into their albums much, but the odd song now and agen is gud. it would be a shame if they broke up. hope it all works out.
to be fair though, mark needs to cheer up, its no wonder he's depressed, have you seen how pissed off he looks in EVERY photo, video, interview (and the DVD with roadrunner united)?
| | | lol to the comment above. It would suck if these guys broke up; I really hold their self-titled in very high regard.
| | | if they break up i'll cut my wrists! =( how can such a great band break up NOW
| | | Mark doesnt always look pissed off all the time, when I saw them i must have been about 10 feet from him in the general standing area and he was talking and laughing with the crowd inbetween songs, he seemed on top of the world lol. im sure this will settle out fine
| | | THAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Chimaira is a great metal band.
| | | Chimaira pwn practically every band on Roadrunner, and Mark Hunter was teh mastermind behind it all.
this shux.
| | | Chimaira can't break up, I just bought one of their jumpers LOL
Seriuosly, they one of the best bands out there today, they have improved dramatically form there old stuff. Things will be ok...
| | | Chimaria are great, not just another "Metalcore" band, they are what I expect from new metal, for me they are like a "modern day" Metallica, especially their self-titled album. Plus they put on an awesome live show. This Message Edited On 04.27.06
| | | I think this is just the beginning for Chimaira, i'm pretty sure they will probably just take a break while they find a new singer. And besides, Roadrunner may have lost Chimaira, but picked up Dragonforce!
| | | Bear in mind, there's still no official indication that Mark isn't coming back...he just went home 'for personal reasons', which could mean pretty much anything.
Hmm, Roadrunner picked up Dragonforce? Intriguing.
In case you didn't know, they've also signed Zakk Wylde recently.
I wonder how Nickleback feel, being on the same label as those two heh heh...
| | | Haha Nickelback, the most out of place band on Roadrunner right now.
| | | im going to see chimaira with all that remains, unearth in 2 weeks over here in belgium
| | | i don't think they will break up, they released the strongest album of their career recently, and i believe if they carry on going from strength to strength they will eventually be hailed as some kind of heroes of metal (trying to avoid saying the new metallica/slayer)
i'v been a fan of theirs since "pass out of existence" was released, and i believe s/t is their best yet, they have some really convincingly great songs on it, not just catchy, or mad solofests, great metal songs like salvation, everything you love, save ourselves e.c.t
| | | Just another rumour...i hope... i wldnt know wot to do without my dose of chimaira and gigi666 ur a lucky ****ard lol;)
| | | Good. Chimaira suck. About time labels stop signing these garbage copycat bands.
| | | you know what dancin' man, go fuck yourself if nothing better to say
| | | Amen to what gigi666 said!!!!c**k s***er
| | | Chimaira just keeps having all these goddamn problems don't they. First all the drummer shit they had a couple years ago and now this. This sux
