The Shins Announce Heartworms

2017-01-06 by Sowing STAFF | 7 Comments
Iconic indie-pop outfit The Shins have announced a new album, Heartworms, due out via Columbia Records on March 10, 2017. The album will be the band's first in five years, following 2012's Port of Morrow.

Frontman James Mercer commented on the new record as follows: “I’m really excited about this record. I think we’ve got something that Shins fans will really love, and I think there are some other things on there that are different enough.”

Two new singles have been released in advance of Heartworms, which you can stream below in addition to viewing the album artwork.

Not a fan of either of these yet, but I'm trying to give them time.

That album title is very indie-pop/indie-rock like

I guess so yeah. All of their albums ooze with that indie scene shit...I love it though because that's kinda my thang.

"When You Land Here..." is still this group's best work despite it not being a proper Shins album. Still looking forward to listening to this though.

artwork is fantastic as usual, in facts it's probably their best yet

tracks are kinda middling but then again they're more of an album band with a couple of notable exceptions

Not a huge fan of the title, but whatev, if the album is good then yay.

I thought the first song was more or less a mashup of previous songs they've done, a lot of stuff was basically lifted from old songs. It was ok but just felt weird because of that.

Second song was a little better and it was something new at least. Not their best though.

Agreed that they are mostly an album band so it's hard to tell too much from this.

Can't say I have been high hopes for this one but I'll try to stay optimistic.
