Opeth, In Flames joint US tour 2014-08-13 by bnelso55 | 43 Comments |
Progressive metal front-runners Opeth have announced a North American co-headline tour with Swedish melo-death cohorts In Flames.
Their coast-to-coast trek, which features support from Portland, Ore. stoner rockers Red Fang, kicks off on December 3 in Chicago at the Riviera Theatre and continues through the end of the month.
In a press release posted on the band’s official Facebook page, Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt said the tour will be the first of two North American tours in support of the band’s latest album ‘Pale Communion’, which is due for release on August 26.
A quote from In Flames frontman Anders Fridén in the same press release states, “I met Mikael for the first time in 1998 during the recording of Opeth’s album ‘My Arms, Your Hearse.’ I was working in the studio and we’ve been friends ever since. Now 16 years more beautiful, we release albums in the same cycle and it’s with great honor and pleasure that In Flames share stage with our friends and fellow countrymen in Opeth.”

It's sad that in 2014 this combination of bands is not at all exciting for a tour.
|
| |
dark tranquillity/insomnium tour in feb way better
|
| |
What's point of touring with In Flames if Opeth is sick of metal?
Doesn't make much sense.
|
| |
So seeing this shit
|
| |
Mikael, dude...what are you doing?
In Flames don't play anything pre-Soundtrack nowadays anyway so fuck em.
|
| |
im going.
|
| |
In Flames don't play anything pre-Soundtrack nowadays anyway so fuck em.
That's like seeing Cynic and them playing nothing but the latest material.
|
| |
Na cos Masvidal is still in the same building as you whereas no original members of In Flames are left.
|
| |
Idk. I've never been a massive fan of these guys, but I've always associated these guys with Anders and Bjorn. I see what you're saying though.

dark tranquillity/insomnium tour in feb way better [2]
this would honestly be an absolutely horrible show to attend
|
| |
Like it doesn't work on any level whatsoever, it's prob cos they are both Swedish bands so it must've been much easier to sort.
|
| |
Why didn't they just contact Beardfish or something?
|
| |
Headliner: Opeth
Opening: Jethro Tull cover band
Much better
|

"What's point of touring with In Flames if Opeth is sick of metal?

bro, In Flames hasn't been metal since the 90's.
this could possibly be even more boring and uninspired than the Harvest/Hunter tour.
|
| |
Headliner: Opeth
Opening: Jethro Tull cover band
that made me laugh way harder than it should have
|
| |
I'd say something smart about two bands that dropped the metal from their sound and ended up sucking but In Flames has
always sucked shit through ten pounds of bricks anyway so I guess what I'm trying to say is fuck this tour. Of course that's not
to say I don't like Opeth. They've released some of the best 3.5's I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
|
| |
Damn, I guess I'll go anyway
|
| |
Regardless of where they are in their career, I haven't seen Opeth live, so even a Pale communion/Heritage centered set won't be TOO bad just to at least say I've seen Opeth.
|
| |
I would love to see this but it's coming nowhere near.
Also, current Opeth is awesome Opeth.
|
| |
Thought this was a good tour, guess not??
I've only heard Still Life but it's a 4.5
|
| |
Do I want to see this tour given where these bands are at in their careers? The answer is hell no
|
| |
Don't think Mikael's sick of metal, he's said if Opeth ever return to metal it will be full on death metal, no prog wankery.
|
| |
Just the thought of this tour makes me want to throw up
|
| |
Well, I'd see Opeth.
|
| |
dude I think I can make one of these. Didn't expect so much negativity from you guys, though I never
cared for In Flames either.
|
| |
opeth might be good, but i don't want to hear this rehashed prog bullshit
|
| |
Might be hitting up the show at the Palladium, anyone planning on going there too?
|
| |
if i go that's where i'd be
|
| |
Denver is close for me so I may check this out. I've seen opeth before and they were great live. Haven't really listened to in flames though. Not sure if their style is something I'd like.
|
| |
I can't wait to not go to this
|
| |
If only this show happened 15 years ago. It
would've been truly epic.
|
| |
'Don't think Mikael's sick of metal, he's said if Opeth ever return to metal it will be full on death metal, no prog wankery.'
I can tell you now that you have just made that up.
|
| |
10 years ago this would have been a tour for the ages.
|
| |
this probably won't be too good. when I saw in flames back in '09 they only played one song off clayman, the rest was their new garbage
opeth will be playing to promote PC so it'll probably be a set similar in style to the heritage tour, with maybe a dm song or 2 thrown in to please the older fans.
I'll go to maybe get some closure on seeing them live since the last time I saw them was completely underwhelming
|
| |
i'll save my money for gojira/kvelertak. and devin townsend/AAL
|
| |
Come to Tennessee damnit!

http://www.metalinjection.net/latest-news/opeth-frontman-says-the-band-would-be-pure-death-metal-if-they-ever-got-heavy-again
|
| |
I'd love a set of mostly songs from PC and Heritage with some death metal songs thrown into it. I'm not too big on In Flames, but Mikael said it was the first of two north american tours, so I guess the second one will be an Opeth-only tour
|
| |
Headliner: Jethro Tull cover band
Opening: Jethro Tull cover band
fixed
|
| |
Lots of hate. I still like In Flames, even though their style has slowly changed, and I've seen them live twice and they played tons of older material with new stuff so not sure why everyone has to throw a bitchfit but the show was absolutely amazing. I'd love to see them again, new or old.
As far as Opeth, I've never seen them live but Heritage and Pale Communion seem to be completely opposite In Flames so it feels very unbalanced combined. Opeth will obviously be playing a lot of newer stuff so that's really kind of weird. Not sure if this is the kind of show I'd go to see...
|
| |
I can't believe all the negativity surrounding newer Opeth stuff. The songs themselves are awesome, it's just not heavy anymore. In fact, I don't even miss the death vocals because I like the songs so much.
New In Flames is very hit and miss, but that rusted whatever song they've been pimping is pretty awful
|
| |
prob not gonna be much trvth at this tour
|
| |
Why In Flames.. That band is just so shit now.
