The Contortionist song drops

2014-07-15 by Julianna Reed EMERITUS | 99 Comments
The Contortionist is back, guys. The Indianapolis-based progressive metal group were last seen (or heard) releasing a brief, but promising, teaser for their upcoming album Language, which is scheduled for a September 16th release. This time, though, an entire song has come out of the woodworks- and "Language I: Intuition" seems to have all the traits have wanted from The Contortionist since they first integrated themselves into their respective scene.

What is bound to come to a relief to fans is that this song is a massive change of pace for The Contortionist. The production it features is more lush and organic, and sounds more dynamic than the band ever has before. And on top of that, newcomer Michael Lessard's vocals provide a stark contrast to that of his predecessor- his singing is less filtered, more clean. Of course, this may change on the rest of Language once it surfaces- but for now, things sure look promising.

Catch a glimpse of The Contortionist's new song below, and leave a comment with your thoughts. Or don't, if you want to keep your thoughts to yourself like a proper member of a music discussion community.

What the fuck is this news article?

Song is alright. Better than Intrinsic, but still lacks what made Exoplanet such a resounding success. Still looking forward to Language though.

literally in like the last second there's a heavy chord so maybe the next song on the record is heavy

which will hopefully be alright, because that's what made Exoplanet so good and Intrinsic so dull

I'm sure that there will be some heavier tracks on the album too, though I wouldn't mind if they stuck with this style for most of it. After all, Lessard went heavy with his old band Last Chance to Reason pretty frequently- so they at least have the capability of doing so if it's what they want.

I'm not the only one hearing modern day Cynic influences right?

Song's decent, kinda funny how much they changed between Apparition and Intrinsic.

YES!

This is what I was hoping their sound would become! A lot softer, really organic with fantastic production.

FUCKING STOKED! Tho I feel this is gonna be a divisive album, some will find it boring and bland while others will find entrancing. That guitar lead in the intro is hypnotising.

Great song, since this is a two part song according to the track listing, I'm guessing Part II is going to be heavier. Also, I think Intrinsic is great. Don't understand why fans dislike it. Admittedly, I haven't heard anything before Exoplanet, but I think Exoplanet and Intrinsic are both great. Seems like Language is going to be another great chapter in this band's career. Keep it up guys.

I'm tired of reading "Cynic ripoff". You guys can be super fuckin' dense sometimes. People complain there's no bands as good as Tool out there, but a band comes along that is influenced by them and they're "a ripoff" that gets a bad rating when they're super talented (even if they have mother-fuckin' Steve Digiorgio on bass).

People complain there's no bands releasing albums like Traced In Air, but a band writes an influenced song and they're a "ripoff".

Good lord.
