"Sweet, my cat loves faux black metal"
Same
|
| |
Damn
|
| |
Way better than I thought it was going to be.
|
| |
This sounds great
|
| |
Can't wait.
|
| |
"faux black metal..."
Sigh, I remember being a 20 year old music elitist too. Then I realized I should quit being such an asshole. My life is much better now, son. This track is awesome, by the way.
|
| |
I really hates it.
|
| |
2 FACKIN BROOTAL
|
| |
SUCH COMPLEX TECHBEATZ
|
| |
Idk if I can take a black metal album with that cover seriously.
|
| |
this is actually alright, I though all metal was garbage, this doesn't sound like metal
|
| |
what is metal about this?
|
| |
so good. probably gonna be my AOTY
|
| |
this is actually alright, I though all metal was garbage
try listening to some
|
| |
Someone tell me if these guys wear corpse paint? If so I might consider actually listening to it.
|
| |
nah they don't. i saw them live and the singer is a clean cut, good looking dude. looks like he could front an indie rock band
|
| |
Relatively few BM bands in North America wear corpse paint, from what I can tell.
Sooo half the album has been leaked then?
Two songs, from what I count? That's a bit less than half.
what is metal about this?
Call it screamo if you can't seriously call it black metal. Hardly matters.
|
| |
Metal and screamo aren't even close to being the same thing though.
|
| |
So if there not wearing corpse paint, burning down churches, slaughtering animals on stage why should i even bother?
|
| |
Lol your trolling is way too obvious, but entertaining.
|
| |
wait they changed there names right?
|
| |
I'm incredibly stoked for this record. it will rule.
|
| |
So damn stoked for this.
|
| |
sounds awesome.
|
| |
cool track, dream house is way better though. really excited to hear the whole album
|
| |
preorders just went up with an instant download of the whole album.
|
| |
"Two songs, from what I count? That's a bit less than half."
their last album was 4 songs.
|
| |
Weak fucking song. The other one was better.
3/5 prediction for this album.
|
| |
Seems about right.
|
| |
fantastic stuff.
aoty def possible.
|
| |
/double post
|
| |
$25 for shipping is a killer, but I'm tempted...hmm.
|
| |
Just preordered this. Their first album is great but this is leagues ahead of it if you ask me.
|
| |
Wait holy crap did I seriously just get the whole album download?
|
| |
wth, $25 shipping? I wouldn't even pay that much for the album itself.
|
| |
Yeah you can get the digital album off of Deathwish for $6. Or it comes free if you preorder a CD or vinyl copy.
Listening now and it rules so far
|
| |
yeah i was about to do the vinyl+tshirt pre-order but it's just too much with that shipping
|
| |
that fucking ruled. gonna go preorder vinyl.
|
| |
What an improvement
|
| |
Pre-ordered and downloading now! Yippie!
|
| |
entire album is ace.
|
| |
this album is so much better than roads to judah
what the fuck
vertigo is off the fucking chain
|
| |
the whole thing already leaked.
|
| |
oops
|
| |
is the preorder download legit 320?
|
| |
yes
|
| |
"I though all metal was garbage"
What the fuck?
|
| |
just because every song isn't played in a harmonic minor scale with diminished arpeggios and whatnot doesn't mean it's not black metal.
|
| |
"just because every song isn't played in a harmonic minor scale with diminished arpeggios and whatnot doesn't mean it's not black metal."
This. Sunbather is basic, one-two-three black metal
but
happy.
Also, it rules.
|
| |
wow this is amazing. can't wait to listen to the album later.
|
| |
was super excited for this but then came the kayo dot teaser now i don't care about this anymore
|
| |
With other weird bands like Bosse-de-Nage pushing into post-rock/shoegaze/post-punk territory, hard genre tags start becoming less appropriate. Sunbather is black metal that's less-than-black.
|
| |
i don't really understand why so many people say deafheaven aren't black metal. there's always going to be the kvlter-than-thou types that are butthurt because their genre of choice that has long been dominated by hairy basement welders is now being played by hipster pretty boys and covered on sites like pitchfork, and to an extent i can understand why they wouldn't be eager to accept a band like this. but looking strictly at the music and not the image, it just don't understand how it's not black metal. of course there's a lot of other influences in their music from other genres (screamo, post-rock, shoegaze) so it's not gonna sound like burzum or mayhem or darkthrone or whatever, but all of their stylistic wanderings are still layed over a core foundation of tremolo riffs, blast beats, and tortured shrieks with trebley production. i can see why elitists wouldn't dig it but to say it's not black metal at all is just kind of silly to me.
|
| |
It is bm and anyone saying otherwise is retarded. With that said, Sunbather contains a whole lot of butt-fucking faggotry.

Just to comment on that band, they're the best of this so called "pretty" black metal. They write some catchy as fuck songs.

Wiz, you're a great dude and all, but I hate it when people say stuff like this, both for the social and the musical implications.

To my knowledge, there are screamo bands that do these exact same things. Imo, the confusion seems warranted to an extent.

You fanboy'd all over their new album. We know, we know!! :P And they are a very good example of black metal that's hardly "black," and in many places barely "metal."
|
| |

You know me by now and you know that ignorant statements like this are funny at face value and that's it. Actually, this is kind of growing on me.
|
| |
Ha! It begins!
|
| |
To my knowledge, there are screamo bands that do these exact same things. Imo, the confusion seems warranted to an extent. screamo bands rarely do blast beats for longer than a few seconds at a time. deafheaven definitely sound somewhere between bm and screamo, but i have a hard time figuring out exactly why. i think it mainly has to do with the drumming and the clean sections.
|
| |
Ha! It begins!
Well, if you want me to be bluntly honest, they blew their load on the first track 'Dream House' and then the album weakens as you listen on. I don't know if I can justify over a 3 cuz it's good and that's about it.
|
| |
really? i feel like the highlight is definitely "vertigo" but tbh the whole thing works for me. just surprised you would like the opener the most, since i think that one actually sounds less 'metal' than the other ones if that makes sense.
|
| |
screamo bands rarely do blast beats for longer than a few seconds at a time.
Then they're breaking new ground for the genre! :D

The vocals. And the melodic/clean parts. Lots of hardcore bands have picked up on the clean "post-rock" sound (or whatever you call it) so that plus Deafheaven's general lack of abrasiveness makes this sound less metal, imo.
|
| |
Funny, it was all cloudy, but right when I turned on the stream to this album, it got sunny. Kind of ironic.
|
| |
Call it what you will but I still hate getting up to turn the lamp on.

Sit in the dark and brood like a man.
