Mastodon reveal album details

2011-06-27 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 79 Comments
Atlanta progressive metal outfit Mastodon have announced that their fifth studio album, The Hunter, will be released later in the year.

The band have revealed the titles of six tracks from the record: 'Curl Of The Burl,' 'Dry Bone Valley,' 'Blasteroids,' 'The Octopus Has No Friends,' 'All The Heavy Lifting,' and 'Stargasm.'

An unused track from the Crack the Skye sessions, 'Deathbound,' will be made available for free download from the Adult Swim website beginning on Monday.

Whatever. I thought Crack the Skye was hugely overrated.

I would be surprised if those were the final titles for those songs.

I guess you guys have forgotten that Mastodon has such song titles as Mother Puncher, Bladecatcher, and Ol'e Nessie so weird song names are nothing new for Mastodon. Brann Dailor said that the album will be less proggy and more riff oriented like Leviathan so it should kick ass like their earlier albums.

After seeing them play Crack and Sky 2 times live, I found a total new respect for the album, it sick. Though I want something more like Remission and Blood Mountain with this new one.

I miss the sound these guys had on Remission/Leviathan. Not a big fan of what they did on Crack the Skye, though Blood Mountain had its moments and was solid for the most part. But hey, you gotta evolve. Their new sound just isn't for me I guess. Probably won't check this out unless the reports of the album being more like Leviathan are true. But I seriously doubt it. Who knows though.
