Excited for this, predictable album title though.

September? *jizz*.
|
| |
not going to listen because
???
I hope they shake things up a little.
|
| |
oolala
|
| |
Yes!!! I hope it's better than watershed. (Not that watershed was bad) Can't wait!!!
|
| |
I hope the album isn't as mediocre as its title...
"Heritage"?...Oh well..
September...man..I can't wait..
|
| |
name's not bad but yeah could have been better
|
| |
5/5 because it's Opeth
just because this is Sputnik
|
| |
Ummm there's gonna be a zillion reviews for this in September.....
lol
|
| |
I hope it's better than watershed, because WS sucked.
|
| |
"predictable album title though."
Pretty much and what Maniac said.
|
| |
neat :]
|
| |
Title isn't particularly interesting, but I'm sure the album will still rule pretty hard.
|
| |
It's cool to be non-conformist and not like Opeth. Never mind the fact that Opeth are fucking amazing. So stoked for this album, and the title is not bad. Titles take on a new meaning once you've heard the music, so you can't judge prematurely. Unless the album title is "sounds of a playground fading." Than, *shudder* judge away...

lol^^
__
Album title sucks so the album will to.
|
| |
Heard they were going in more of a jazzy, non-metal direction for this, which isn't surprising based on the last few. Should still be interesting though
|
| |
bang tidy
|
| |
The phrase "moar Opeth" actually seems appropriate for once.
|
| |
Why do you guys judge albums by their titles? idiotic.
|
| |
Excited for this, predictable album title though.
+1
|
| |
When's Akerfeldt's solo album dropping? I'm more excited about that than anything else. I don't listen to much Opeth anymore anyways, and if I do, I find myself only listening to the softer songs...or fast forwarding through the death growls to the clean acoustic passages.
|
| |
"5/5 because it's Opeth
just because this is Sputnik"
Even I won't do that.
|
| |
Excited for this, predictable album title though.
Shutup.
|
| |
Shutup.
heyyyyy that's no way to treat people :[
|
| |
HOLY MOTHERFUCK YES
I'd say "confirmed AOTY" but with the way this year has been, i can't say that for any upcoming release at this point.
|
| |
Shutup.
heyyyyy that's no way to treat people :[
Yeah...next time hug them the way you hug a pink fluffy bear...:]
|
| |
I don't think a lot can be said about the album based on its album title.
|

Sputnikmusic: the ultimate place to de-hype albums based on title and/or cover
|
| |
September? Sweeettt. Album title is interesting, not necessarily bad
|
| |
I know its been said before but 2011 = amazing year for music (aside from that piece of shit dredg put out)
It seems like almost every sputnik darling who is still putting music has put something out this year.. and still there have been some new surprises like AIWYFA
|
| |
Calm your shit people, it's only the title
|
| |
classic opeth title, but why wouldn't you want it to be an opeth title?
|
| |
Exactly. Opeth album titles aren't exactly good. My Arms, Your Hearse was clever though
|
| |
Typical Opeth title.
|
| |
Keep in mind that this album is being produced by Steve Wilson. Since that's the case, I have a little hope that this could be on par with Blackwater Park or Damnation...
|
| |
band hasnt been good since blackwater park, this will probably suck
|
| |
predictable album title though.
Yeah, because everyone was predicting it.
|
| |
Obviously it should've been self-titled.
|
| |
Bet money on that shit
|
| |
they should split up
|
| |
It's more like sputnik to think Opeth is overrated to be honest.
|
| |
I'll listen to it, but Im not expecting much. Opeth is kind of a dull band.
|
| |
I'm not sure how this will turn out, but I hope its better than Watershed.
|
| |
Why does no one like Watershed? I love watershed.
|
| |
Will undoubtedly be one of my top five albums of the year.
|
| |
Watershed wasnt a bad album. Just weaker by Opeth standard
|
| |
generic Opeth title
not a huge fan of this band; i found blackwater park and still life kinda boring in full, but they both had some excellent songs. maybe i should try them again.
i'll check this out when it comes out
oh but I loved damnation. loved it.
|
| |
sputnik thinks opeth are overrated on sputnik so they tell sputnik opeth is overrated on sputnik and subsequently sputnik agrees with what sputnik said when in reality sputnik rates opeth highly
|
| |
Irony. Still looking forward to this
|
| |
woooooooooooooooo
|
| |
Older stuff from this band is nice, but I never quite liked their newer albums as much. But I'm certain this new one will simply continue that theme.
|
| |
DIBS LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER

Fuck Opeth.

^
|
| |
They have never put out a bad album lbh. See dredg.. they put out what you can call a bad album this year. Opeth has not stooped to that level.
|
| |
if the album title was predictable how many of you predicted it you mongs
|
| |
lol
Sputnik's way of bringing down hype.
This will be awesome.
Come on, Watershed wasn't that bad, it was just different.
|
| |
booya. i loved watershed so i'm excited for this.
|
| |
"if the album title was predictable how many of you predicted it you mongs"
typical sputnik trying to come off as smarter than it really is
|
| |
Opeth is a decent band alright. The title is boring though.
|
| |
Sputnik is an idiot
|
| |
*chanting* art-work art-work art-work art-work
|
| |
I somewhat enjoy Opeth and I love Blackwater Park for personal reasons, but I don't like them that much to praise them like Sputnik. It's bad enough to say they're overrated or amazing because most likely those saying it are sputnik sheep (i.e. most of the userbase).
this better have good acoustic passages and riffs...then I'll look into it. if not I won't give a shit.
|
| |
who gives a fucking shit about the album title, as if it will affect the music itself.
|
| |
Agree Relinquished. Plus I'm pretty sure this'll have acoustic passages...they pretty much always do.
|
| |
I want the acoustic parts to be GOOD though.
not simple shit like Porcelain Heart.
|
| |
yea that song is pretty awful
|
| |
Such a predictable album title.
|
| |
hope its some sort of unplugged version of mayh with high-pitched shrieks
|
| |
that would be ideal
|
| |
Such a predictable album title.
/facepalm
|
| |
2/5
|
| |
As for Watershed, I fail to see how it was any worse than Blackwater Park. This album may be decent.
|
| |
Can't wait for this.
|
| |
Heard they were going in more of a jazzy, non-metal direction for this, which isn't surprising based on the last few. Should still be interesting though
Probably because Mike's death growls have gone to hell in the last few years. Booo.
hope its some sort of unplugged version of mayh with high-pitched shrieks
4.5/5 Doubt Mike would be able to hand "high-pitched" screams now adays.
|
| |
As for Watershed, I fail to see how it was any worse than Blackwater Park.
what
|
| |
but blackwater park is really good o:
|
| |
And yeah, i heard they wanted to move away from a more metal direction on this album...
...this could be really good or really bad. If it's basically Damnation 2.0, then awesome. If this ends up being an album where every song is like Burden, then they can go fuck off.
|
| |
hm, not sure if I'm optimistic anymore. I guess a second Damnation would be really cool, but Burden was one of my least favorite tracks on Watershed. :[
|
| |
"Heard they were going in more of a jazzy, non-metal direction for this"
really? fuck
|
| |
"Why does no one like Watershed? I love watershed."
This. Also:
"Probably because Mike's death growls have gone to hell in the last few years."
What are you talking about? His vocals have only improved since BWP. Have you heard the growls on "Heir Apparent"?
|
| |
Hey guys, I'm predicting their next album name, but I'm not going to make further mention of it until they announce what it is.
|
| |
lol sounds about right
|
| |
Very Opeth-ish.
|
| |
i already know the song titles. not as predictable as the album name but still
|
| |
Who cares about the titles? It fits. What do you want the title to be? "Space Exorcism V"? Heritage is Opeth-y. I jus hope Mike's low growls don't sound too bad on this one.
|
| |
omg a Damnation sequel would make my year. Please let it be so!
|
| |
lol
|
| |
album will be amazing, fuck the haterz.
I love you Mikeal
|
| |
List needs moar OPETH!!
|
| |
Damnation wasn't that great so no sequel. Watershed is better than Blackwater Park.
Case closed.
No more Opeth for me til this gets leaked in like late August
|
| |
watershed is their worst album, followed closely by ghost reveries
seriously band needs do call it quits
|
| |
honestly i find their metal stuff boring. Call me crazy.
|
| |
I agree band needs do call it quits
|
| |
Opeth News: Sputnik spontaneously busts a nut
Never really been into these guys, they're a bit long winded and depressing to listen to. They're fantastic musicians though. May try this one out.
|
| |
personally i think GR is their best
|
| |
"Why does no one like Watershed? I love watershed."
Because now Opeth are popular enough for people to think hating on them is cool.
Watershed is one of their best, if not the best.
|
| |
Mikael is so cool. did you actually meet him sonic? thats sick
|
| |
Watershed is fantastic, it's not Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries, but still fantastic.
Not crazy about the album title but maybe it'll grow on me. Don't really care, sure the music will be good enough to make up for it.
|
| |
Watershed is to Opeth as 10,000 Days is to Tool, or Marrow of the Spirit is to Agalloch. An excellent album that i find myself going back to constantly, even though it isn't up to their highest standards.
|
| |
You keep going back to marrow? I can't make it past the 3rd track.
|
| |
if you little pork fuckers don't 5 this, Edward Norton is going to gutterstomp your shit up
|
| |
Ghost Reveries is my favorite, and Watershed is outstanding, so I'm not the least bit skeptical about this.
|
| |
:]
|
| |
g3n3ric's tastes live up to his name;)
|
| |
Watershed ruuuuled
lol at this being predictable
|
| |
lol @ the people using predictable to describe the album title
utter troglodytes
|
| |
Sputnik worships Radiohead more than Opeth.
That said, hope this is good.
|
| |
"Heard they were going in more of a jazzy, non-metal direction for this"
Its hard to take what Opeth say about albums serious. Remember when Mike said "Watershed is gonna be their darkest and technical", so that didnt come true.
"Probably because Mike's death growls have gone to hell in the last few years."
Mikes growls on GR were damn near perfect.
|
| |
"Probably because Mike's death growls have gone to hell in the last few years."
um, no
excited for this
|
| |
voice has actually matured = voice has gone to hell
|
| |
it's changed
it's not going to sound the same every album
|
| |
Still Life, Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries are fantastic, their other albums are also pretty good.
Don't hate this band just because they have become a lot more well known, they are probably among the most talented bands of all time.
As for Radiohead, they have two excellent albums, the rest is extremely overrated.
|
| |
5/5
|
| |
I thought the album was named September.. That would've been cool
|
| |
|
| |
I thought the album was named September.. That would've been cool
nah, too predictable
|
| |
They should've named it Fresh 2 Death
|
| |
Nah, too predictable
|
| |
"it's changed
it's not going to sound the same every album"
it sounded kinda forced and not as deep in the live dvd
so it got worse
|
| |
You little fucks, just admit that Opeth are still one of better well-known metal acts around today.
|
| |
preceded by a zillion comments
|
| |
They should've just stolen Kanye's scrapped album title and called this Good Ass Job, 'cause that's exactly what this will be.
|
| |
how is the album title 'heritage' a bad one? we dont even know the context of the album yet...as for people saying this is going to fail, look at their discography, pretty much flawless. i doubt this one is going to be any different.
|
| |
Not a title I would expect from them, but at least we know they're alive. I can't remember the last news from them.
|
| |
I think what happened on the DVD was they were playing a live 3 hour set so Mike toned down his harsher vocals. You can tell in interviews he's taken his growls as far as he can, but he can expand his cleaner stuff. He's great at both so I have no gripes. That being said he'll probably record his usual sinister growls.
I think this'll be a solid album. Can't wait to see them in July.
|
| |
Album title released.
over 100 comments.
|
| |
I hope they throw in that woman from "Coil" again. I could see Opeth male-female potential. I want Mikael to utilize his lower range a little more. He never went low on Watershed, or at least not as low as he can go. He goes pretty low in Roads (on Roadrunner United) and maybe a couple low harmonies in Opeth. But I'd like to see more.
|
| |
lol @ the people using predictable to describe the album title
utter troglodytes [2]
|
| |
Yes!
|
| |
they havent made one bad album yet.
^ This, although some are easily better than others. Really fucking excited for this. It's fucking Opeth.
|

can anybody say guest musicians Oceano?
|

Report him for fucking talking about.

|
| |
lol @ everyone complaining about the album title like it actually matters. Can't wait for this, hope its better than watershed but it will be good nonetheless.
|
| |
I mean Opeth is playing Bonaroo. How many other metal acts make it to fucking Bonaroo?
|
| |
Why does no one like Watershed? I love watershed.
Watershed is definitely their worst and it's still a 3.5 at the very least, which is saying a lot.
|
| |
Remember when everyone complained about the title of Watershed?
|
| |
lol hawks i was just thinking that i don't really enjoy watershed that much.
|
| |
my review for this is already written, get ready to pos.
|
| |
I rather like the album title. It's nice and simple.
|
| |
I think the meta-mindset here is funny when it comes to Opeth. "Too many people worship them, they aren't that good; no wait, now everyone is saying that, so it's no longer cool to hate Opeth; no WAIT-"
Add me to the bandwagon of Opeth lovers. I am very much looking forward to this album.
|
| |
They should have called it "Needs moar opeth"
|
| |
When people are saying "predictable album title" and all that shit, I think they mean that the title isn't very creative, and sounds like some crap that Opeth would think of.
Album will probably be alright, but I don't think it will be anything that I'll listen to alot like some earlier Opeth
|
| |
The reaction to this are way too exaggerated.
|
| |
"Watershed is gonna be their darkest and technical"
Well heir apparent is defo their darkest song. And hessian peel is rather dark as well if you think about it.
I can't think of an album that is more technical than watershed.
|
| |
They should've called it 'Mike Hunt'
|
| |
"I can't think of an album that is more technical than watershed."
ok
|
| |
Too many people love Opeth, therefore I hate them now.
|
| |
^ That seems to be what's actually happenning. lol
Still stoked. Watershed was their biggest misstep and that was still a 4 for me and they've been pumping out near perfect albums for almost two decades now.
|
| |
Ya, no reason this can't end up really good. Their catalog is one of the best and most consistent I can think of.
|
| |
""I can't think of an album that is more technical than watershed."
ok"
Opeth album that is. Still life is close but if I remember correctly from the tabs on Heir apparent there's some wild stuff there. And I don't mean technical in the sense of "playing at the speed of light" more like unique.
|
| |
Heir Apparent is one of my favorite Opeth songs easily.
|
| |
It's a beast.

Akerfeldt on the new album:
"It's quite intense at times in some 'old' murky way, and quite beautiful and stark at times, if I may say so myself. It's obvious I'm going to say nice things about it since I wrote basically the whole piece, but I guess it will raise a few eyebrows and it certainly is an acquired taste. I think you'll need a slightly deeper understanding of our music as a whole to be able to appreciate this record. I've realized my influences for this album are so diverse that I can't really say what it sounds like. If I can compare it to any other band, it would have to be Opeth, but it's different from the stuff we've done before. I've listened a lot to ALICE COOPER for the last year, yet I can't say it sounds like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy'. I hope you'll like it once you hear it."

lets talk 'bout melo deth
|
| |
btw, first time we'll have an opeth album with more than 9 songs.
Songs will be either shorter, or there will be lots of interludes, I guess.
|
| |
folklore? marrow of the earth? wtf theyre copying agalloch!
though i know you're joking, "marrow of the earth" is pushing it a bit
|
| |
it's prob just like a "hey guys" kinda thing and not ripping them off
not directing that at either of you im just sayin'
|
| |
yeah I don't think Opeth would outright rip Agalloch off, they probably got the idea from them though. which isn't really a bad thing. could make the album even better. :]
|
| |
album might suck
still aoty regardless
|

semen stains the desktops

sure it will suck dick just like the rest of their catalogue

01. Heritage

03. I Feel The Dark
04. Slither
05. Nepenthe
06. Haxprocess
07. Famine
08. The Lines In My Hand
09. Folklore
10. Marrow Of The Earth
since roadrunner are releasing it I'm more inclined to believe Blabbermouth
|
| |
Gonna be radical.
|
| |
the album should be called "Douchey Pretentiousness"
|
| |
nice
|
| |
fuck yes alice cooper opeth
|
| |
Only Opeth could get 207 comments for an album title.
|
| |
Awesome! So pumped
|
| |
can't wait. but marrow of the earth? seriously? :|
|
| |
Only Opeth could get 207 comments for an album title.
But seriously
5 out of 5
maybe 4 out of if they really drop their game
|
| |
I'd be content if this album ended up being 35% Metal and 65% Rock like Watershed was... so long the metal songs are on par with Heir Apparent and The Lotus Eater.
|
| |
I didn't know these news threads could go onto seperate pages, lol
|
| |
Only Meshuggah command more respect.
|
| |
im hoping this sounds like nothing they've ever done before. Judging by the tracklist, ive got a good feeling about this.
|
| |
"im hoping this sounds like nothing they've ever done before."
Pretty much all of their albums follow this
|
| |
"Only Meshuggah command more respect."
I like this guy
|
| |
I like you Relinquished for giving Meshuggah the love they deserve quite a bit m/
|
| |
I do as much as I can to rep them.
|
| |
Who gives a fuck about the album title? At least it isn't anything ridiculously pretentious or stupid.
Anyway, I am excited, been listening to Blackwater Park a lot recently.
|
| |
Cannot wait for this one.
|
| |
Ehh typical Opeth, still excited though.
|
| |
Watershed was a love/hate album for me. The final two tracks on the album are some of their best and most interesting work, but the metal portions of that album are not up to par, not that they are bad. I would love to see Opeth go in the direction that they took on Hessian Peel and Hex Omega, but I would rather them stay way from the direction they took on the rest of Watershed, as it never engaged me all that much.
And you are all wrong; their worst album is Deliverance.
|
| |
I don't want to say I have high hopes for this album cause that usually turns out to be not the case.
|
| |
"And you are all wrong; their worst album is Deliverance."
Deliverance had some of Opeth's best material on it. The title track is still my single favorite Opeth song overall, that outro is fucking legendary... and Master's Apprentices slays.
|
| |
pahahahaah :]
agalloch guitarist put this on his facebook
Don Anderson
is working on a new Agalloch song entitled "Blackwater Parking Lot"
