The interview that he seems to be confirming is this:
"Sure, in the beginning the guys were sad, angry and confused, but on this moment they want to prove they can do this without me. They WILL find a great drummer, there are hundreds of drummers out there better than me, I'v heard the names of some of the auditioners but I don't know who they will pick in the end. I spoke the guys a couple of weeks ago and checked if there was a possibility that I could help 'em out in the studio in January. I even begged them to come to a solution before announcing the new drummer or take other decisions.
They want to prove they can do it without me and keep the door closed. So I can't return, even if I want to. I reached out my hand, teared my soul inside out, but it didn't help. I look forward to the day I'll join DT...Dream Theater is mine, that stool belongs to me... It's in their hands now, I even proposed to go into the studio in january, although I still don't want to, mentally, but I am willing to give anything to keep peace within the band and for the fans...."
|
| |
I reached out my hand, teared my soul inside out, but it didn't help
Sweet Jesus.
|
| |
oh my god lollol
|
| |
so it wasn't a clean break in the first place...?
|
| |
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
man
fucking funny
|
| |
Maybe you shouldn't have left for a7x in the first place. hahahah
|
| |
OWNED
haha
|
| |
Yeah, it sounds like he wanted A7X cash, and when they dropped his ass he tried to get back into DT before they replaced him.
|
| |
REEEEjected!
|
| |
haha nobody wants him
|
| |
he seems like a douche. js
|
| |
He just seems like he thought he was more important than he really is. He was always saying in interviews that he would be with A7X through 2011 and then who knows about a next album... you never saw them say that. He just thought that there was no way they'd replace him.
|
| |
Well he just messed up his whole career.
|
| |
Well that's embarrassing.
|
| |
I, for one, am kind of excited for the new DT album now. They won't just being going through the motions -- they have something to prove and an axe to grind.
|
| |
Sounds like he needs a hug.
|
| |
Karma's a bitch.
But in this case also really really funny.
|
| |
Honestly, I think the rest of the band are being dicks. It's more or less his band anyway. While he can be replaced as a drummer, his songwriting made the band what it was, and their new material will no doubt suffer accordingly.
|
| |
He was actually a really nice dude when I met him, I guess like Willie said he just thinks he's more important than he actually is.
|
| |
I don't think they ever played the whole AA suite live yet...would be strange without Portnoy.
|
| |
What songwriting?
|
| |
his songwriting made the band what it was
a piece of shit?
seriously tho how are the rest of the guys being dicks when he left them to make bank with 7fold?
it's just karma bro
|
| |
Dream Theater wasn't touring or recording, and Mike just said he wanted to take a short break from the band. The fact the other members couldn't honor a simple and reasonable request from one of its founding members is pretty dickish to me.
Hope he finally does that project with Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson.
|
| |
he is so going to play for paramore.
on a more serious note, Dream Theater is going to suck badly without him.
|
| |
This is classic
|
| |
bunch of douches...
|
| |
"all signs point to paramore."
lol.
As far as song writing goes, I always thought Petrucci was better than Portnoy anyway, so DT are still very capable in that department. As much of a fan as I am of both DT and Portnoy, he shouldn't be back in DT this early, the split had to happen for a reason, not just for Mike to come crying back when things don't work out elsewhere.
|
| |
LOL, that's what you get for being an idiot...
|
| |
I foresee a book deal.
Mike Portnoy: Why Being a Bandwhore Doesn't Pay Off
|
| |
not just for Mike to come crying back when things don't work out elsewhere.
this.
|
| |
mimsy your avatar is tripping me out
|
| |
--Dream Theater wasn't touring or recording, and Mike just said he wanted to take a short break from the band. The fact the other members couldn't honor a simple and reasonable request from one of its founding members is pretty dickish to me.--
Actually, what he told them was that he didn't want to go back into the studio in January or tour for it afterwards. So, it doesn't really matter that they weren't actively touring or recording because the fact is that he was set to shut them down once they started.
|
| |
do you think Trivium's going to need a new drummer soon and then Lars Ulrich gets rejected from Metallica for playing with Heafy and the boys? that would be great
|
| |
i smell a solo album
|
| |
if lars left metallica they'd become better by a mile
|
| |
--Mike Portnoy: Why Being a Bandwhore Doesn't Pay Off--
It seems to work for black metal musicians.
|
| |
Yeah, exactly my point - he didn't want to record or tour; he wanted to take a break. Not sure why the band is in such a hurry to get in the studio again.
|
| |
if lars left metallica they'd become better by a mile
or they could just break up like they should've a decade ago
|
| |
mimsy your avatar is tripping me out
Don't fight it
|
| |
well they could take in Mike if Paramore rejects him.
|
| |
Portnoy should just retire at this point to save himself more embarassment.
Or he could take the Paramore gig. I could see it:
(5-second drum solo)
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU LET YOUR HEART WIN
(drum fill)
WOOOOOOAH
(drum fill)
|
| |
"or they could just break up like they should've a decade ago"
no !!!!!! youz gots the crazies
|
| |
or they could just break up like they should've a decade ago
You mean two decades ago?
|
| |
Testament has a revolving door of drummers. Let him join Testament and record with them.
|
| |
you guys are hurting my feelings so much now..
|
| |
let's say 15 years, that's about when Load was released
|
| |
haha this shit's hilarious. Two shitty bands and the drummer that neither of them want.
|
| |
load's goodz, they just had lars. that's always been their biggest problem. let's get back to Mikey, he needz a band.
|
| |
I'll let Mike Portnoy be in my band but I'll kick him out in 2012.
|
| |
i smell a solo album
I would not be surprised
|
| |
why 2012?
|
| |
Avenged kept him for a year, so I will too.
|
| |
I see, well, I need a drummer for my band, and the other guitarist wanted someone with skill, so I'll be taking Mikey here, thank you
|
| |
This makes me so happy!
|
| |
this makes me laugh, but it feels a bit weird. oh well...
|
| |
lol
I bet a lot of DT fans are pissed
|
| |
This is like
Portnoy's fuckin' nightmare
|
| |
Farro brothers + Portnoy = the side project of 2011. 5/5
|
| |
he's like the kid with lice that none of the other kids want to play with
|
| |
both bands are shite
|
| |
fuk u traitor
|
| |
Don't forget My Chemical Romance still has no drummer.... lolololololol
|
| |
mike is one of my favorite drummers of all time but after leaving for A7X he pretty much had this coming
|
| |
Yeah. I think he's a great drummer, but what did he expect. I think it goes back to what I said earlier... he's just over-estimated his worth and thought that no band would willingly replace him if they didn't have to.
|
| |
I hear he's putting together an entire album of only percussion plus the vocals of Yoko Ono. Pumped.
|
| |
this is probably going to come back right in DT's face
|
| |
LOL
|
| |
Owned
|
| |
lol
|
| |
Haha I had a feeling this was coming after he left Dream Theater.
|
| |
and it came... they Bukkake'd him so hard there.
|
| |
One poor career move after another
|
| |
he'll have to spend his time doing something cool now
|
| |
"(5-second drum solo)
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU LET YOUR HEART WIN
(drum fill)
WOOOOOOAH
(drum fill)"
lol.
thread and story are full on win.
|
| |
Hm, I'm not sure how to feel about this yet.
|
| |
Looks like he'll be looking through the music want ads on Craigslist for awhile.
|
| |
Maybe he can start a project with whatever member of Fall Out Boy hasn't found one yet.
|
| |
He seriously was a negative influence on the recent Dream Theater albums.
|
| |
And the lolz go on. This is so good.
|
| |
The biggest problem with Dream Theater was LaBrie, dude's such a dildo. Wish he'd FOAD
|
| |
Portnoy did an amazing job for lots of Neal Morse ouputs
|
| |
I figured he'd go back. I didn't figure he'd be rejected. Might be interesting to see where DT go with a new drummer though.
|
| |
news is LOL
|
| |
this is dumb but so was his decision to leave
|
| |
Testament has a revolving door of drummers. Let him join Testament and record with them.
I'd rather they kept Bostaph
Whole situation is a bit of a lol-apalooza though
|
| |
''Might be interesting to see where DT go with a new drummer though.''
Gavin Harrison would be a pretty good candidate.
|
| |
"The biggest problem with Dream Theater was LaBrie, dude's such a dildo"
this
|
| |
ohgawd i lol'd
what.. i just don't.. what.
|
| |
As much as I love Portnoy, I'm glad they've stuck to their guns on this one. Better to have a new drummer 100% committed to making new music than one who flip-flopped and admits he still has no desire to record a new album.
|
| |
H ha ha ha, this is fucking funny. Made my day.
|
| |
i can't stand portnoy, i mean, he has a basketball jersey with his name on the back...not sure what team he's playing for anymore though apparently
|
| |
Yeah he pretty much screwed his whole career up when he went with A7X. Oh well the guy is a damn good drummer and I'm sure he'll find a band to join or form his own.
|
| |
wow a lot of you guys seem like total tools. portnoy is one of the best fucking drummers out there
|
| |
they aren't going to rebound well from this shit, they're obv pussyhurt morons. he was an integral part of the band
|
| |
lol
|
| |
doesnt mean he isnt a band whore twat
|
| |
someone's butthurt.
|
| |
This is quite funny. He sounds so full of himself.
|
| |
the DT members sound pretty full of themselves as well. they couldn't even tell him face ot face that he wasn't welcome anymore. they're a bunch of pansies since he is one of the founding members.
|
| |
I agree with Jethro
|
| |
yeah i guess this is more newsworthy than the article i submitted but was rejected. real cool moderators.
|
| |
RIP the rev
|
| |
this is like leaving a chick for a hotter chick before making sure the hotter chick wants you
he dun goofed
|
| |
HAHAHAHAHAHAA
|
| |
Lol, this is pretty great.
|
| |
that is histarical
|
| |
pretty much the laughing stock of the music community right now.
|
| |
lolol
|
| |
I can't wait to hear how the band sounds without Portnoy
|
| |
I never was too big on Dream Theater, but after seeing them on the Iron Maiden tour, I would have to agree and says that James Labrie is the weak link of the band. However, I do find this hilarious and much deserved. If you decide to leave a band to make more money this what you should get.
|
| |
And now DT just needs a singer replacement and Voila!!
|
| |
I feel for the guy, looks like it really hit home just how much he was leaving behind. But on the other hand, he finally has the break he wanted.
|
| |
all jokes aside he should actually join paramore, just as a 'fuck it' kind of thing
|
| |
^^ i would laugh until i completely shit myself.
|
| |
whatever, band lost all possibilities of being good by having labrie as their singer during their peak, and now this just means theres no chance of a recovery (not that i expected one)
shit is lolworthy all around
|
| |
Comment no longer exists
|
| |
Yea if portnoy joined paramore or My chemical romance i would die of laughter.
He got what he deserved though honestly, i mean he left the band when they wanted him to stay, says he did not want to make music or tour then goes and joins avenged fagfold. WTF did he honestly expect. They will be fine without him, there are allot of better drummer than him or at least to par as him so i don't think their sound will be a drastic terrible change.
|
| |
Shouldn't have left in the firstplace. Portnoy was what held that band together. Sure they can find another drummer as talented as him, but they won't find another guy as good as writing, producing, and managing as him.
|
| |
"haha this shit's hilarious. Two shitty bands and the drummer that neither of them want."
THIS
|
| |
He dun goofed.
|
| |
wow so Portnoy really did try to leave for A7X and the money, no wonder the band rejected him. Portnoy isnt THAT irreplaceable, even in the songwriting department. Good riddance i say.
|
| |
"Oh c'mon guys, just one more live dvd!?"
|
| |
I respect Mike Portnoy and all the work the guys in DT do whether it be OSI or LTE or even Kevin Moore's stuff, Chroma Key....Mike's a sick drummer who's done a lotta great shit.........that said...........this is hilarious............
|
| |
Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooo session work!
|
| |
So Mike was willing to quit the band rather than go into the studio when he wasn't ready or willing, and then was willing to compromise the very integrity he gave his spot in the band for due to overwhelming fan response that he KNEW was coming?
This reeks of indecisiveness and even cowardice. Of course, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen - but as an extension, if you know the kitchen will be hot, don't even THINK about complaining that the kitchen is hot when you enter.
|
| |
lol double fail
|
| |
This is one of the reasons why I love this site, first Paramore, now this, hahaha
|
| |
dude i've just drunk 2 monsters and eaten an entire big bag of sour patch kids. i think i may be having a heart attack but i'm not sure..
|
| |
lol poor Mike Portnoy...
|
| |
Just, lol...
|
| |
"Hope he finally does that project with Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson."
He's been kicked out of that too. Well shit son, he didn't want to work and now he's not.
|
| |
aw no now dream theater's gonna suck
oh wait
|
| |
I am a DT fan...
but this is funny lol
|
| |
Meh.
|
| |
couldnt care less..havent followed them in years...portnoy is a douche ball
|
| |
lol sounds like some kid in the playground getting kicked out of his group, then trying to join another one and getting rejected from that one too.
Just as well, Mike Portnoy is a little fucktard
|
| |
lol This thread is sooooooo wrong.
|
| |
portnoy in paramore would probably be better than the new dt album. jus sayin'
|
| |
Also, last DT album was great, I just don't see anything wrong with it. I say.
|
| |
Well this sucks.
|
| |
Lol, I don't care.
|
| |
]I, for one, am kind of excited for the new DT album now. They won't just being going through
the motions -- they have something to prove and an axe to grind.
thiiiiis
|
| |
^thaaaaaaaat
|
| |
In Hellas we have an ironic saying about people doing what Portnoy did:
Δεν τον χάλασε καθόλου όμως!!!!!
Leaving aside any inherent loss in translation, in English the corresponding phrase would be:
I can tell that Portnoy wasn't upset in the least
|
| |
his drumming will be missed but his vocals will not..
"DAY AFTER DAY...AND NIGHT AFTER NIGHT!"
|
| |
Ringo's getting old....
Next Beatles reunion/funeral hello portnoy
|
| |
the people defending MP are just being ridiculous. he basically held the whole band to ransom saying they couldn't do anything for a year or so because he wanted a rest because he'd been off doing loads of other things while they were all gearing up for recording a new DT record! then when he realises that A7X don't want him for 2011 he tries to come crawling back just as they're hiring a new drummer! it's pathetic.
/rant over
|
| |
hahahahhaahaha
|
| |
I don't see how anyone can criticise a guy for wanting to take a short hiatus in order to recharge his musical batteries so that his band may produce a worthwhile album next time.
Dream Theater will totally fail without him.
|
| |
It feels the end of DT.
|
| |
he was just too good to be in a7x,
and he's not very good
|
| |
DT will release an album without him, it will be average, then he will rejoin
|
| |
lulz
|
| |
oh no! now two bands i dislike greatly don't have drummers!
|
| |
Haha!
|
| |
It feels the end of DT.
I honestly wouldn't complain.
|
| |
It feels the end of DT.
I honestly wouldn't complain.
Yeah. The band has made its cycle and it's time they realized it.
|
| |
As far as Dream Theater goes, whether they take Portnoy back or not, they should definitely kick out James LaBrie and stay an instrumental act. Not having a singer will give all of them a lot more room to work creatively. Otherwise, I'm done with Dream Theater.
And as for Portnoy, he needs to hop on with Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt and start fresh making some new music.
|
| |
He should not have left DT, now he's seeing the consequences.
I doubt Akerfeldt and Wilson will take him for the recording. They just don't need him.
|
| |
Yeah agreed, he should've just stuck with DT since it's his band.
Haha, and very true, Akerfeldt and Wilson are both sooooo talented, i'd say it'll be easy for them to find a drummer for that project...like maybe Gavin!
|
| |
I feel pity for the dude.
But seriously ... Hahahahahahahahaha
|
| |
Good riddance. That's what you get when you turn your back on the band you helped create and nurture into what it is today. For shame Portnoy.
|
| |
Good riddance. That's what you get when you turn your back on the band you helped create and nurture into what it is today. For shame Portnoy.
|
| |
Derp.
|
| |
I wonder which band he'll try to join next...
|
| |
Considering the aire of douchiness DT has always had blowing off them like powerful stink-lines, this isn't a surprising reaction; butt-hurt band and band-whore drummer
|
| |
Maybe this means John Myung will get to write some songs again :D
Or perhaps thats just wishful thinking (listens to Learning To Live)
|
| |
there's a lot of good Rush tribute bands out there too.
|
| |
i love dream theater but i'm glad they didnt take him back
|
| |
Ya labrie is the one member who seriously hinders dream theater, but this is tots funny.
|
| |
On a more serious note, musician is amazing, and I wish he would do more works for Neal Morse.
|
| |
Next week: "Mike Portnoy joins Paramore"
|
| |
Maybe he'll become a busker....
|
| |
Lol when I see DT I automatically assume Dark Tranquility.
|
| |
Mike Portnoy with Dark Tranquillity could be kind of cool.
|
| |
He's too advanced for their music. It would just be clashing.
|
| |
It could push them to go back to Skydancer material (easily their most ambitious album).
|
| |
Wow.....never thought I'd say this, but this makes me happy. He deserved. Now he's all like "WHAAAAAATTTTTTT?!!!! I'm TeH Mike Portnoyz! I will eat yo guitar strings, Petrucci!!11!!"
|
| |
how exciting. hope he has lots of magazine subscriptions. he was always so much cooler than everyone.
|
| |
hahahahahahahaha
|
| |
darkthrone
|
| |
lol
|
| |
Everyone who has commented saying he left Dream Theater for Avenged Sevenfold is a complete fucking idiot. He was helping them out on tour, that was it, and he knew it wouldn't be permanent. His decision to leave Dream Theater was completely unrelated. Jesus fucking christ.
|
| |
It's so fucking obvious that he did. If he really didn't want to be a part of Dream Theater and was only doing the A7X thing as a favor he wouldn't have ran back to DT as soon as he was dropped. The fact of the matter is that he quit Dream Theater because he ego lead him to believe he would definitely pick up the permanent A7X spot. I love Dream Theater, but the actions are too clear to defend him.
|
| |
Mike Portnoy: Hey whats up guys? I just left Dream Theater.
A7X: what?
Mike Portnoy: Shit.
|
| |
...in todays news, 43 year old man acts like 15 year old girl.
|
| |
...Liquid Tension Experiment reunion?!
|
| |
"Mike Portnoy: Hey whats up guys? I just left Dream Theater.
A7X: what?
Mike Portnoy: Shit."
LOL.
Man, I'm so hoping he joins Paramore. Would definitely bring the lulz.
|
| |
awesomesauce- i'm not sure what's worse...googling mike portnoy to see how old he is in order to make a half-hearted post, or knowing his age off the top of your head. i'll let you decide
|
| |
That's what happens when you try to help A7x.
|
| |
This is a slap to Mike Portnoy's face.
|
| |
Good for them for rejecting that dumb ass. Although I do have the utmost respect for him.
|
| |
Thats what you get for leaving a great band, joining a shit generic one, loosing your fans respect and band mates respect.
|
| |
lol at people contradicting themselves constantly in this thread
|
| |
hahahaha
|
| |
He just needs to take drum lessons from teh biebs so he can be good enough for DT.
|
| |
He never said he was leaving for Avenged Sevenfold. He always made it clear that he was only temporary.
It's a real pity that he has fallen out with Dream Theater, though.
|
| |
He never left DT for A7X. He left them because he wanted a break 'cause of all the stuff he did (producing, tour planning and so on and so forth) and they didn't. He said he loved playing with A7X because he was just the drummer, and just played stuff. He never had to do anything beyond that.
But of course, not having a job kinda sucks; that'll make anyone desperate.
|
| |
Y'know, when I heard before why Portnoy was leaving, I was kinda pissed. He is probably the best drummer I've heard yet, in my opinion, but then I heard that he just wanted to take a break to keep the music fresh, which is good, since the last break Dream Theater took was one summer off after 10+ years of constant summer touring.
He was not part of A7X. Okay, I can live with it, but it's not ideal. He definitely improved the band a little bit. Then he was kicked out, but again, whatever.
So he wanted to go back, kinda flip-flopish, but cool, more Dream Theater. They didn't want him back, and THEY couldn't even tell him. They had to get their fucking lawyer?
Dream Theater was, as Portnoy put it, his baby. His father named it, and he was kinda the leader (he made the set lists, so take that for what you will). But they won't take him back just because they want to prove they can do it without him? Fuckin' low man.
Fuck their next album. It'll probably be like Chinese Democracy. Dream Theater name, but its just not the fucking same.
|
| |
oh
|
| |
What the fuck? Why so much hate?
|
| |
U mad?
|
| |
Haha, I love all the hate directed at Portnoy in here. I, personally, think it's far better that he stay away from Dream Theater because Transatlantic makes better music than Dream Theater ever will, and if it's true that he'll be working with Wilson in the future, that could only be better.
As long as Transatlantic's safe (I'm looking at you, Neal Morse), then I'm happy.
|
| |
