nice. I don't see Cameron leaving PJ though.
|
| |
Guess Chris Cornell got tired of doing the solo route
|
| |
Reposting from the original news story:
This is the best New Year's ever
|
| |
bitch move Chris...bitch move
|
| |
The 12 year break is over and school is back in session yeah lets take lessons from the 'tard who released Scream
|
| |
definitely interesting... albeit a little worrying?
|
| |
Cornell was thinking along the line of:
"if alice in chains can do it, so can I"
|
| |
Badass news
|
| |
"if alice in chains can do it, so can I"
Except Cantrell still knows how to write music
|
| |
"nor is it known whether Timbaland will be unveiled as the unofficial "fifth" member."
lolololol.
|
| |
Woo Hoo!
|
| |
^^true
still not sure how I feel about this though. They're obviously aged, so grunge is out of the question
hopefully they wont go the path of Pearl Jam's crappy soft-rock approach
I want Chris to look bad-ass again and Kim to riff out some sweet tunes!!
|
| |
if they do a decent hard rockin album ill be pretty happy
|
| |
jizz everywhere
|
| |
This is great news. Hopefully Chris can still wail like he used to. Also Matt Cameron needs to come back, he would be a bigger loss than you think.
|
| |
Yeah Cameron is a really good drummer. It should be interesting to see what happens with that situation.
|
| |
Those bastards better come tour too.
|
| |
am I the only one predicting colossal failure?
|
| |
FUCK YEAH ! I want a new album.
|
| |
No you're not, this will probably go down in history as a bad idea. Cornell is probably doing this so he can open more restaurants or something
|
| |
How? Unless they play songs from Scream or something.
|
| |
This won't be a failure unless they let Cornell make too many decisions.
|
| |
lol
just lol
|
| |
How can they not? What has Kim Thayil been up to in the 21st century?
|
| |
I can agree with the failure theory...after all, "Scream"....should be 'nuff said.
|
| |
There are plenty of reasons this seems like a bad idea, the whole thing reeks of desperation and failure.
|
| |
Who cares? He wasn't in a coma. Bands have done this before and Soundgarden didn't put out Scream, that was Cornell trying to get some cash.
|
| |
I'm wallowing in happiness.
|
| |
Unexpected, but I'm interested
|
| |
I hope this'll be good...
|
| |
This is only done to slow the fall of Chris Cornell's career. That being said, ilu Soundgarden
|
| |
Hmm, don't know what to expect. The AiC comeback sucked imo but Pearl Jam's new stuff is brilliant. Only thing I can say is it will be interesting. Although, as it has been pointed out... Scream... And when Cornell does Black Hole Sun solo it comes out pretty bad so...
|
| |
Cool BUT I doubt anything good or anything at all will come of it.
|
| |
i guess the cash stopped rolling in
|
| |
nor is it known whether Timbaland will be unveiled as the unofficial "fifth" member
Does that not set off any alarms for anyone?
|
| |
holy shit i didn't even see that
|
| |
I hope this turns out as awesome as it should in theory
|
| |
" The AiC comeback sucked imo but Pearl Jam's new stuff is brilliant. "
Most ridiculous comment i've seen this year so far, of course, there's more to come.
|
| |
Yeah that last Pearl Jam album is probably their worst, most generic ever, and the AIC comeback was actually better than we could've expected.
|
| |
Amazing New Year's news.
|
| |
Kyuss reuniting > This garbage band.
|
| |
"The AiC comeback sucked imo but Pearl Jam's new stuff is brilliant"
Black Gives Way to Blue > anything else AIC have done and pearl jam has never been good
|
| |
woah
|
| |
hope its only touring and no new material but this is awsome
|
| |
unexpected, happy news
|
| |
Yeah hopefully no new material
|
| |
nor is it known whether Timbaland will be unveiled as the unofficial "fifth" member.
Gay, gay, and even more gay.
It is not yet known whether drummer Matt Cameron will leave his current position with Pearl Jam to take part,
Hopefully he stays with Pearl Jam. Why go back to a band that completely shit, pissed, and jizzed all over their first few albums with career-ending clunkers such as Down on the Upside and Superunknown?
|
| |
He was a part of the band that did that.....
|
| |
Superunknown has maybe one or two good songs. Rest is just shit. I know tons of people who hate that album as much as me.
He was a part of the band that did that.....
I know but what I was saying was why return to those days of sucking?
|
| |
I haven't paid too much attention lately but the last few Cornell performances (with Audioslave) I've seen have been terrible. sucks because I loved Down on the Upside
|
| |
you and the other negatives
We stand proud.
|
| |
I think Down and The Upside and Superunknown are fantastic records. Yeah, they started changing their styles, but man, Superunknown has some heavy ass songs on there. If Kim Thayil writes the guitar parts and Matt Cameron comes back, maybe this will be good and this is coming from a big Soundgarden fan.
|
| |
thank you god.... been waiting for this forever
|
| |
First we get Pearl Jam's new stuff is brilliant and now Superunknown a " career ending clunker "... the music taste in here just gets worse and worse.
|
| |
Chris Cornell just needs to die in a fire... a BIG fire
|
| |
boom bang pow
|
| |
"Kyuss reuniting > This garbage band."
Fuck I Wish! Josh will nevr go back to that band though
|
| |
Never say never. I mean, yeah, Brant Bjork is busy with his solo shit, Garcia is busy with Hermano, Josh is obviously busy with Queens and Them Crooks, but Scott Reeder is doing his thing. Need more Reeder, man.
|
| |
COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
| |
I heard a "Soundgarden, PJ and AiC tour" rumour about 2 weeks ago and now that Soundgarden are back together it only seems all the more likely. I definitely hope it happens.
I'm a fan of all 3 band's older stuff with a very few exceptions to a few songs from newer albums.
|
| |
sounds gay
|
| |
yeah, if timbaland joins this band
i will cry me a river
|
| |
Ugh Soundgarden
|
| |
Reiterating of sorts, again, Soundgarden is a super shitty band and can not hold a flame to Kyuss on Kyuss' worst day.
Cornell is broke again and this is the only reason he's bring back this band. Name recognition sells.
|
| |
At least they don't sound like BTBAM....that would be ass
|
| |
I dont know how can Cornell be broke, he's got money coming from everywhere....
Now a Kyuss reunion would be news of the year for me, but Homme's busy with Queens and his million other side projects so thats unfortunately not gonna happen.
|
| |
Soundgarden still remains one of the best cult rock bands of all time to me, this is excellent news even if Cornell is a little questionable nowadays.
Hopefully he stays with Pearl Jam. Why go back to a band that completely shit, pissed, and jizzed all over their first few albums with career-ending clunkers such as Down on the Upside and Superunknown?
Wiz, you are one of my favourite posters on here but I disagree with you so, so much.
|
| |
I'm stoked.
|
| |
never heard of em..
|
| |
you're missing out
|
| |
You've never heard of Soundgarden??? Never listened to an alternative radio station before? Black Hole Sun still gets tons of airplay.
|
| |
Fact: Pencils shoved into your ears is preferable to listening to Soundgarden.
|
| |
Since when did it become trendy to hate on Soundgarden so much?
Christ, kids these days. I could understand if somebody finds them mediocre, but the whole pencil in the ears comparison is stretching it a bit thin.
|
| |
I didn't realize it was trendy, I truly do not like this band and erm I don't think I'd qualify as a
kid. =/
|
| |
under the age of 30 = kid
*leans on walking stick in my Soundgarden shirt*
|
| |
"Backspacer" wasnt horrible; liked it more than "Black Gives..."; dunno whats wrong with that.. better than some of their earlier efforts "Riot Act" or "Binaural", but nowhere near as good as "Ten" and also "Vs", "Vitalogy" and "Yield".
|
| |
anotherdeadjuliet: you're a shitty troll and you have shitty taste in music.
|
| |
another band that's going to shit all over their great reputation in the name of money.
|
| |
Riot act > ten
there, i said it
|
| |
Wizard, how does it feel to be so completely and utterly stupid? This is 'i prefer the older stuff' elitism taken to a retarded level.
I love it. I almost forgot though, when you're in the minority on this site (and anywhere on the internet), you're always going to be called retarded for having a differing opinion.
Wiz, you are one of my favourite posters on here but I disagree with you so, so much.
And most of the other people here will tell me the same thing as well. I just really disliked the direction Soundgarden went in.
|
| |
I'm going to be a total idiot and say for a second there, I thought this was about Savage Garden.
Good news to hear (err.. read) anyway.
|
| |
piece of shit
|
| |
uh... whoa. good news i guess.... this reunion business is starting to get a bit tired though, eh? seems like a "me too" game they're playing (although i thirst for what thayil has in mind for this... i figure if he's down for a reunion he knows he's got some good stuff up his sleeve)
cameron will prolly remain in both bands, he's a cornerstone for both pj and soundgarden.
cornell will probably sound like audioslave recordings (a shell of his former self, but not horrible by any means)
and on a side note, no code > everything else these seattle bands ever released
|
| |
Agreed with everything up until that ludicrous last comment.
|
| |
They need Cameron no matter what, he was the drive.
|
| |
Unless PJ are rushing out another album or touring very rigorously the next year or more, I find no reason why he can't do both. Plus, I'm pretty sure if they're officially back together, I'd assume the original line-up unless told otherwise.
|
| |
woah superunknown and down on the upside are great
|
| |
Don't forget Badmotorfinger too.
|
| |
Badmotorfinger was the best
|
| |
Meatplow your avatar is just as good as this news.
|
| |
Holy leaping generalizations abound, batman!
good job MrPoopular.
|
| |
I wish they could release a Superunknown Pt. 2 but I'm expecting some kind of pop album. I'm getting a little scared.
|
| |
Badmotorfinger fucking rules. See peeps, I do enjoy Soundgarden hahahaha.
|
| |
Touche...
|
| |
(Audioslave - Chris Cornell) + Zach De La Rocha = Rage Against The Machine!!! It needs to happen!!!
|
| |
I can't stand Chris Cornells Singing.
|
| |
Sigh....
|
| |
this is cool news. say what you will about Chris, but he still has one of the best voices in rock. lookin' forward to an album!
|
| |
Cautiously optimistic would be the right words for this.
|
| |
Superunknown has maybe one or two good songs. Rest is just shit. I know tons of people who hate that album as much as me.
You and those people drink SuperFail9000
|
| |
Never expected these guys to come back together, Cornell might have finally discovered the actual value of his solo work. But I won't be convinced until I hear some Superunknown-ish quality work, or at least something close to it.
|
| |
Even if these guys don't put out another quality record, I'd still love to see them live.
|
| |
Wizard is correct on all counts. For the record, soundgarden sucked.
|
| |
you can't hate Spoonman dude, that track OWNED.
|
| |
4th of July, Jesus Christ Pose, Day I Tried To Live, Room A Thousand Years Wide... anybody who says this band sucks is a fucking faggot. Actually, i KNOW you're a fucking faggot because of that gay ass avatar you have
|
| |
lol your name is leotardmessiah, oh yeah I'm the gay one.
|
| |
You and those people drink SuperFail9000
So you can display horrible jokes but what is your reasoning for this? Oh wait, you love those albums because you wouldn't want to piss off the Sputnik community.
Wizard is correct on all counts. For the record, soundgarden sucked.
Did we just agree on something? hahahaha
|
| |
Yes, let's never speak of it again.
|
| |
I think Superunknown is one of those cases where the one record that most people heard of a band is actually their best record. Sure, it's not their heaviest, but is that how we measure musical quality? It contains by far their best, most focused songwriting, their most creative guitar riffing, and a hint of psychedelia missing on their previous records. Down on the Upside was not as good, but featured plenty of creative guitar atmospherics (see "Boot Camp"), and the entire thing has almost a twisted Beatles-esque feel to it.
And, guys, it's just a tour. No one said that they're going to make any music. I know that if they're going to play a show near me, I'm definitely going.
|
| |
Please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up please don't fuck this up
|
| |
Loved their first album and Superunknown, but meahhh not really that great of a band. . . I hate their lead singer, that Cornell faggot
|
| |
Using "faggot" as an insult? Are all of you 14 years old?
|
| |
They heard somebody they thought was cool say something bad about Cornell.
|
| |
So you can display horrible jokes but what is your reasoning for this? Oh wait, you love those albums because you wouldn't want to piss off the Sputnik community.
Yeah because I totally only like stuff because it's dictated by some panel of hipsters and not due to my own tastes and I definitely care what teh sputnik internetz think
Let's see. Excellent songwriting, superb musicianship, one of the best rock albums of the 90's. Took everything Badmotorfinger did and did it better while being more diverse to boot. Your opinion is the one in the minority so I would assume you're the one who needs to back up your comments with something substantial other than "it sucks"
|
| |
If you read further down, you will see that I do enjoy their back catalogue quite a bit. I apologize for the immature tone/ wording in my above comment but it does get a little tiring sometimes when you post reasoning and the only response you get back is 'faggot' hahahaha. My reasoning for disliking their last two albums are simple; stripped down and way too alternative for my liking. I do like a catchy tune (like I said above, Superunknown contains a few of these catchy tunes), but my biggest problem with their last two efforts is the fact that they display nothing that warrants my attention any further. Not heavy enough, too simplistic in their song structures; it's a number of reasons why I dislike latter Soundgarden.
|
| |
Superunknown has shitloads of heavy grooves all over it. I mean yeah Badmotorfinger was more manic and more metal-ish but I think their sound progressed throughout their careers into more diverse material, and the rhythm section kills it on Superunknown. Just listen to the opening of let "Let Me Drown" with all the heavy funk downbeats. THAT is heavy. Soundgarden was never metal anyways, only partly at most and they were predominantly alternative music. Down On The Upside was definitely their weakest and most mainstream record overall but still had some great songs and experimentation, but I'd put Superunknown and Badmotorfinger on the same level easy. But no disrespect Wiz
|
| |
so happy this is happening, really hope they tour the U.K this Summer but I'm guessing they will be doing the U.S first
|
| |
"The group is weighing offers from several major US and international festivals, but a tour routing is still a work in progress due to Cameron's prior commitments to play with Pearl Jam in the spring and summer."
Can't wait.
|
| |
But no disrespect Wiz
I understand that I'm a douche sometimes : ).
|
| |
yeah
|
| |
At least I can do a complete 180 and be a nice dude.
|
| |
This thread prompted me to dig out Superunknown and play it again, and it's still a great album. 4th of July in particular
|
| |
Same thought went on here.
|
| |
Regardless of Scream, Chris is an amazing singer and Soundgarden was amazing in the past, maybe they can make it happen again :D
Either way, I'm excited!
|
| |
what is the "brief summary" for? I never know what to put in that box, or where it shows up in the article
|
| |
