I've still only heard Choirs of the Eye by them. Their music is so dense, it needs time to sink in. I still have to hear their other two before this one.

Hopefully Toby will revitalize Kayo Dot in the same way that he made the latest motW album so great. I just hope Kayo Dot doesn't become his moniker for pretentious and worthless prog-jects.

This is not going to be like pt. the 2nd, or like BLD. If we know anything about Toby Driver, it's that he won't make the same album twice.

Basically what Lions said. I can safely say it won't be anything like Part the Second; he recorded that one under the old name for a reason.

Also, BLD was good.

Yeah because saying 'I hope its heavy' means 'I WANT CHOIRS OF THE EYE AGAIN AND AGAIN'. You really know how to read too far into a statement.

Guys, the point is that Toby's made 5-6 heavy albums already to his 2-3 soft ones. No, heavy does not mean Choirs of the Eye, but give the guy a little breathing room. Just because you didn't like one of his soft albums doesn't mean they'll all suck.

Didn't he say this album was going to be influenced by Bauhaus and My Bloody Valentine or something like that? Could be interesting, but I was hoping for this to be out this year.

Bauhaus, early The Cure and "Sextant" by Herbie Hancock. wooohooo.
anyway, Choirs of the Eye = perfect, Dowsing = almost perfect, BLD = almost almost perfect, and Toby Driver is the coolest guy in music today. can't wait.

Did any of us even say we didn't like BLD? See what I mean when I say you read too far?

I DO like BLD, I've liked every Maudlin and Kayo release in fact. Hoping for a little heaviness somewhere on the record does not seem to be an oppressive request (and it's not really even a request [more of an offhand statement] since the record's done and Toby's done what he wants to do with it no doubt)

But maybe you're right in a way, since BLD was obviously moving away from their metal influences so clearly if Coyote follows any sort of album progression we'll have to live without the heaviness.

And there's my bias on account of the fact that I herald Choirs of the Eye as a masterpiece :P

I've been hiding in the underground of the Sputnikmusic-database and waiting for more Kayo Dot news.

and predicting what the new album will eventually sound like must be impossible. ESPECIALLY when Randall (producer of the droniest drones around), Herbie Hancock and some early goth-rockers are all being thrown together. maybe ultraslow jazzrocknoise and toby driver wearing gothic make-up?

Tartar Lamb is nice, but not the shit really.
I'd love to see them again, I think they're even playing Dowsing and Choirs material in Europe, but they just don't come anywhere even remotely near me and I don't feel like going to Germany again just for one show (I did that last year).
uh well, I hope they'll come around again some day.

This album is going to be amazing. New info up on Kayo Dots web site. For anyone hating on Kayo Dot your probably more than likely looking for some shity genetic prog metal and your just not going to get that from Toby driver an the rest of Kayo Dot. You obviously don’t have the listening style for this music. Oh and for anyone thinking that Toby driver’s new music isn’t influenced by astral projection at all then you probably haven’t seen any of his art work for BLD or read any of Kayo Dots lyrics. Kayo Dot is meant to be listened to as an album rather than songs. So if your looking for instantly gratifying music you probably wont find in a classical composition.Another master piece on its way can’t wait.

well, I found Blue Lambency Downward to be a poor album because while it seemed there was some method to what Driver was doing it was not worth the challenge, whereas the payoffs on the "heavier" records were just immediate and powerful.

Kayo dot isn't for everyone. It isn't something you just love first listen it is alot to absorb. It takes several listens to really enjoy and fully appreciate. listening to the full album by yourself is really the way to do it. what I am trying to say (Electric City) is if your looking for one thing or genre in Kayo dot you wont find it. i see them as being more about creating new music rather than just prog metal or any other genre for that matter. i think its all about how Toby driver feels when creating his music and what he hasn't experimented with yet rather than targeting a certain fan base, prog metal can only go so far then it progresses into something else an Kayo Dot is beyond that its hard to classify them as any certain genera but avant-garde or just prog.
