Left Down Spine have signed with Metropolis Records and are back with their second album of digital hardcore. Those familiar with the band will notice that major changes have taken place since Fighting For Voltage was released in 2008. The band have dropped all of their metal influences and wall-of-sound production in favor of a fun mixture of punk, industrial and electronics. “X-Ray” is the first single from the album, Caution. Caution was released on the 26th of August.
Rabbit Junk have always been an eccentric band. They’ve been known to mix anything from industrial and black metal to hip hop and hardcore, and this song is no different. “What Doesn’t Kill You Will Make You a Killer” is the first single from the band’s upcoming album (currently untitled). It features the return of the more fun, tongue-in-cheek Rabbit Junk and also the return of Sum Grrl. The song itself is really two parts — the hip hop influenced beginning and the metalish second half. Oh, and the video is pretty cool too.

The recent news that Century Media Records had removed its entire catalog from Spotify ended up leading to another discussion about file sharing and everything that goes along with it. This blog post is not that serious. I’ve just decided to dredge up some old videos that were created during the intial Napster controversy.

A few years ago, long time Fates Warning fans went crazy when they found out that Jim Matheos and ex-vocalist John Arch were teaming up for some new music. The end result was the underwhelming A Twist of Fate. Don’t get me wrong, the songs were awesome but there were only two of them. Listening to that album was like watching the gif where the hot girl is opening her shirt but just before it gets to the good stuff the gif starts over. Basically, A Twist of Fate was good enough to be mildly satisfying, but it was mostly just frustrating because it wasn’t enough. That is where Sympathetic Resonancecomes in. Not only is it an actual full album by the John Arch/Jim Matheos duo, but it also features the return of longtime Fates Warning guitarist Frank Aresti — rounded out by Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Anthrax) on bass and Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Sebastian Bach) on drums. It’s like someone found the full version of that teasing little gif and it turns out that her mom and sister are in it too… it just doesn’t get much better 😉
The first song released from Sympathetic Resonance is titled “Stained Glass Sky”, and it is actually just a five minute snippet of the entire fourteen-minute track. Regardless, the song is more than enough to prove to longtime fans that the album is going to kill. It…

Nuclear Blast records is making the first single from the upcoming Anthrax album available for free download. The song is called “Fight’em ’til You Can’t” and is taken from Worship Music which will be released on September 13th through Nuclear Blast Records. The song itself is pretty much classic Anthrax with just a hint of their 2003 release, We’ve Come For You All. It’s got the classic hardcore-tinged thrash riffs, Joey’s soaring vocals, a strong chorus and a fuckin’ driving beat. What more needs to be said? If the entire album is like this then it’s going to kill.
We recieved a link to the webstream of the new Fair to Midland last night, and I finally got around to listening to it for the first time. Since things are slow right now I figured that I would give my initial impressions based on a single listen. For those that are into pain, there is also a track-by-track that was written in real time as I was listening to the album. Below that is the official video for “Musical Chairs.”
My overall impression of this album is that it is not nearly as instant as Fables From a Mayfly. The choruses and vocal melodies are good, but they aren’t as simple and catchy as they previously were. This shouldn’t be taken as a bad thing, though, because the album is definitely going to be one that grows on people. One negative that I can point out is that the vocalist was definitely much more restrained on this album. He never hits those high notes or odd melodies the way he did before. This kind of makes the first listen blend together a little bit because the vocals are all very similar for the most part. It’s also not nearly as heavy or chaotic as the song floating around Youtube would have you believe. Now that it’s established what is missing, we should get into what the album actually is. The music…
