New Anberlin single/album

2026-08-19 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 38 Comments
Anberlin have announced the release of their ninth studio album, Currency, their first full length solely with Matty Mullins on vocals. Due out on November 11 through Equal Vision Records, it features 11 tracks produced by the band together with Kellen McGregor (Memphis May Fire).

On the new record, Mullins shares: "The overall theme of Currency is what happens after everything you built your identity on falls apart. It's a journey through heartbreak, loss, addiction, shame, and the lies we tell ourselves. Instead of staying in the wreckage, it's about finding the strength to face the truth, let go of what was killing you, and become someone new. I believe that healing doesn't begin when the pain ends, it begins when you finally stop running from it."

The latest single ''NEVERAFTER'' is out now:

Tracklist:
1. NEVERAFTER
2. GRAVITY
3. HIGHSTAKES
4. GHOST
5. MEDICATE
6. TRENCHES ft. Switchfoot
7. AFTERMATH
8. RELAPSE
9. DISPLACE
10. LIES
11. ASHES

Also, ''HIGHSTAKES'':

so annoying lol.
This is not Anberlin.
This is more poop pop with guitars.
Change the name and stop making money off the brand affiliated with your old brand.
Yet more box office bullshit sequels for a younger audience to see once and never take home on dvd. 2026 bab. We want that ole' thing back.

If you take down this message, you're obeying the censors and losing your sense of self in the name of advertising ethics and widespread apathy posturing as kindness feeling like nothing can be criticized because someone will always feel implicated.

they were kinda bad live, and played a REALLY small venue considering where they used to be.

Such as convincing yourself you're in Anberlin.

Singles were extremely generic/cliche pop-punk/post-hardcore, but they were alright ig. Sounds like anemic Saosin.

Idk. They've had a remarkably stable lineup over their career; I'm not sure why replacing a retired lead singer while keeping everyone else would be enough to make this "not Anberlin".

"Idk. They've had a remarkably stable lineup over their career; I'm not sure why replacing a retired lead singer while keeping everyone else would be enough to make this "not Anberlin"."

Alter Bridge is literally Creed minus Scott Stapp and they are (were) leagues ahead of anything Creed released (and I grew up listening to nothing but Creed). In Anberlin's case, they replaced a killer vocalist and lyricist with someone who didn't have a hand in cultivating the band's identity to begin with and whose own talents fail to eclipse the man who came before.

I thought Mullins was just doing the vocals on tour? This is gonna be most likely UBER DUMB

Listening to the new song now and, besides from it sounding like some generic A Day to Remember ballad, you can close your eyes and pick out the moments in the song where Stephen's vocals would have SOARED. Mullins clearly has a very limited range and just repeats the same pop-punk vocalizations that bored me to death on Vega. This isn't Anberlin by any stretch.

I will hold off on listening to any of the songs until the album is out. Will just put it to my ipod for free. Ain't paying for this. Whoever thought this singer would be a good fit here was mistaken.

mullins was doing just tour vocals before, but anberlin have since fully split with christian

Generic but cool so I'll give it a pass. My concern isn't that "this is not Anberlin" because, well, this is, it's rather the fact that Matty has zero capability to perform the old material. Range aside, his sheer voice doesn't fit Stephen's lines.

@Essence

Wow. Well them saying he was just doing touring vocals was pointless since Stephen never even ended up making more music with them. Released 2 worship albums though that were "meh"

they should have kept recording with Stephen and let Matty play the songs live. hoping in a few years Stephen will want to return to the band full time.

Don't see the problem, they're decent songs. Apart from that everyone here would be jerking off if Stephen sang on these

I like the song a lot; it's almost as good as High Stakes. I've been a biiiig Anberlin fan since 2005 and I've seen them live 7 times (5x with Christian, once with Matty, once with both). I'm sad Christian is no longer in the band but I'm happy Anberlin didn't call it a career; I'm enjoying their new music and live shows so I'm welcoming the new Anberlin with open arms.

Are these songs totally awful? No, not at all. They’re catchy I guess.

Would I be listening to this if it was any other new band not associated with the name “Anberlin” at all? I would not. I’d brush it off as another generic pop punk alt rock band, and that’s my biggest issue with the Matty Mullins fronted iteration.

Yup. Before these latest Matty tracks, I don't think Anberlin had written any catchy choruses since Vital.

That's a weird take. They only had one album after Vital, and We Are Destroyer is catchy affffff

I'm counting Lowborn, Silverline, Convinced, and the new songs they released on Devotion. That's not a ton of music, but 14 years since Vital is a long time to take a break from writing the hooks that made them who they are today (I do understand they were broken up for a while in that stretch). We Are Destroyer does have a very good chorus but I think I just find it less catchy than you do. It's great to listen but doesn't exactly beckon me to sing along with it.
