Anthrax's Apex Predator 2026-08-17 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 1 Comments | Anthrax have released “The Edge of Perfection,” the second single from their forthcoming twelfth studio album, “Cursum Perficio.”
Opening with clean guitars and a subdued atmosphere, the nearly seven-minute track soon erupts into blast beats, aggressive riffs and a soaring performance from vocalist Joey Belladonna. Guitarist Scott Ian has described it as “the best song we’ve ever written,” explaining that its lyrics explore love, family and the struggle to preserve happiness.
Drummer Charlie Benante similarly compared his reaction to the song with the feeling the band had when creating established favourites such as “Only” and “Indians.” Benante originally wrote its music before the COVID-19 pandemic, with its combination of melody, heavy chords and aggression remaining with him throughout the album’s extended development.
The accompanying cinematic video was directed by Academy Award-winning makeup artist Joel Harlow. It combines footage of the band performing with a dark fantasy narrative in which its protagonist’s dreamlike evening descends into an encounter with supernatural forces.
“Cursum Perficio” will arrive on September 18 through Megaforce Records in North America and Nuclear Blast in Europe. It will be Anthrax’s first full-length release since 2016’s “For All Kings.”
