If this article seems a bit weird and jagged, it's because it got edited by the mod team. Had a fair bit more of text on it, but maybe it wasn't "article-y" enough. Either way, song rules.

Snauze's post has to be pure bait, but Hayley's the one slumming it for sure, and she hasn't been primarily associated with pop-punk for over twenty years.

How’s it bait when she’s been so overhyped after leaving the one band that made her popular while she hasn’t done much since.

Paramore is arguably one of the most influential pop punk bands of all time. Artists from outside the genre constantly cite them as an influence and plenty of people still fuck with their new stuff. I'm hardly a fan outside a few singles and I know this

"How’s it bait when she’s been so overhyped after leaving the one band that made her popular while she hasn’t done much since."

She's released three solo albums since 2020 (all of which receiving positive reviews to critical acclaim) and from 2023-2024 Paramore toured with one of the most successful pop artists of all time.

Hardly washed up.

Hayley is great. The song probably would have worked better with a traditional verse chorus verse chorus structure. The individual parts are good, but the mellow elements drag a bit.

Signing an unknown yet promising 14 year old talent to your label is not the same as a supposedly 'unknown' band being given a slot at Download without even releasing any music.

She was signed to a major label and they planted her on Fueled by Ramen with the explicit intent to hire a band around her and make it seem like an organic ‘band that rose through the ranks’ situation. The brothers who were original members have been very transparent about that in numerous interviews.

Asdfp277

they were transparent about the fact that labels were interested in hayley specifically, not that the band was a industry plant. not the same thing

a label seeing potential in u =/= being an industry plant

Nope the way they characterized it is precisely what I’m saying, they formed a band around Hayley post de facto. They weren’t a band that were signed out of interest of Hayley.

The truth is somewhat in the middle allegedly.

Hayley and the Farro brothers were in a band together in their teens. Atlantic records wanted to sign Hayley solo. Hayley allegedly pushed back that she wanted to bring along her band. The 'compromise' was Hayley solely signing to Atlantic and the full band signing to Fueled by Ramen.

Man I dunno I'd read the interview or blog post or whatever years ago. Here's another source

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2010/dec/23/ex-paramore-members-slam-hayley-williams

Farro alleges that it was an industry invention but maybe he's being a bit dramatic. Or maybe Fueled by Ramen signed Paramore and added Hayley to the mix, who at that point was repped by Atlantic?

Anyway my point being that Hayley was repped by Atlantic and then found Paramore/Fueled by Ramen via those connections which to me suggests INDUSTRY PLANT

And like personally I don't view that as like an invalidation of her talent, I think she's talented, but it is what it is

reading the original farro statement, he didn't say that at all

idk maybe we have diferent definitions of what an 'industry plant' is

(side note, she didn't get signed to atlantic then met the rest of the band. she met the band, played with them for a while, then got signed and pushed to get signed *with* the band)
