Paradise Lost is Host

2022-10-21 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 19 Comments
Paradise Lost's core members Nick Holmes and Greg Mackintosh have unveiled their latest project Host, which will focus on the "Depeche Mode" era of their main band, mainly the style of the eponymous, 1999 LP. Blending gothic rock and New Wave sounds, the debut album, IX will be released on February 24 through Napalm Records.

Regarding the project, Greg Mackintosh mentioned: "HOST is something that I had in mind for a few years but never had the time to do it justice until now. It’s taking the concept of what we attempted to do on the PARADISE LOST album 'Host' but approaching it in a modern context. It’s part 80s goth, part electro, part rock but none of them specifically. The emphasis is on hooks and atmosphere. It’s quite a challenge to make miserable music catchy and hopefully we’ve achieved that to some degree."

Watch/listen to "Tomorrow's Sky" below:

Tracklist:
1. Wretched Soul
2. Tomorrow's Sky
3. Divine Emotion
4. Hiding From Tomorrow
5. A Troubled Mind
6. My Only Escape
7. Years of Suspicion
8. Inquisition
9. Instinct
10. I Ran
11. Hiding From Tomorrow (Lustmord Remix)
12. Tomorrow's Sky (Gost Remix)

This is quite awesome. The sound is a tad too modern in my eyes, but the song is pure quality!

This is really cool. Interesting to see a band confidently revisit a controversial period in their sound.

Extremely interesting news.

Here’s to hoping that the album will be better than Host.

A handful of songs in Host and the overall sound were great, but there was/is too much filler/undeveloped stuff in it.

On another note, this project seems like the culmination of the Tragic Illusion 25 compilation, which Paradise Lost released in '13.

Sounds nice. Will check out the album. Just too bad it will be released by Nuclear Blast. Horrible label (at least after the takeover). What do we have here? The album with 9 tracks on vinyl and with 12 on CD. Hope you are not a vinyl fan.

The opposite with Fear factory: Remix album comes with more tracks on vinyl than the CD. They really want you to loose interest in physical sound carriers (or whatever it is called in English )

I would've agreed with you some time ago but now I think Host is actually quite a solid record. The run from track 7 to track 11 for example is a spotless streak imo

Wow, I wasn't expecting this awesome news! I love the Host album by PL (probably my fave of theirs) so looking forward to this first album under the 'Host' band name.

Well , this is really a nice thing to stumble upon on a lazy Sunday morning. Looking forward to the album.

On a different note, this will be out exactly one year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. A simple coincidence?
