"why even bother making an news article for this toondude"

maybe because they're a popular mainstream rock band and not everyone is an elitist

they still deserve news on the bands they enjoy

I mean c'mon, their target audience is probably in their late 20's by now. And why is he humping his guitar around the 3 minute mark, like what is this spasm all about?

forget Comatose, go listen to Collide, their last good album before they caught the radio-rock bug. it's hard to imagine the same band wrote "Fingernails" and, well, everything they've written lately

Ok so.... I like mainstream rock a lot, as Sputnik knows. I'm nowhere near an elitist. But this.... is LITERALLY "Feel Invincible" but slightly heavier. Pretty damn mediocre and lazy.

Not as bad as it could be, but still not great. Comatose and Collide are great albums and nobody can ever tell me otherwise. They've gone pretty downhill since but still can put out a catchy tune here and there.

Yeah this is basically just Feel Invincible Part 2. It's okay, I guess. Hopefully this won't be one of the best songs the album has to offer.

and with that kalkwiese comes out swinging against Thrice, Anberlin, pre-hiatus Underoath, ABR, As Cities Burn, and arguably mewithoutYou, among a host of other bands sputnik loves, this should go well

Let's face it; these guys were never that good, and this further drives home that idea. This song literally sums up everything wrong about the modern rock era: corny, cliched lyrics, lazy instrumentation, generic, unexciting structure, and it's so polished and electronic sounding that it doesn't even sound like a rock song.

But wait, they have a girl drummer and are a Christian band so they get a pass by default right?

I don't care how famous and successful they are because that doesn't equate to good music. I've given Christian music chances from time to time to find good music, and I've found some gems among them: Realm, Tourniquet, Mortification, Living Sacrifice, Extol, and some other Christian extreme metal. But if Skillet is the face of Christian rock music, then I'd rather burn in hell.

Went off a bit there, but all in all, I'm not impressed with this nor anything these guys ever put out. Case closed.

"Let's face it; these guys were never that good"
I was never under the impression that they were haha. Skillet falls into the same category as 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Seether, etc. Radio grunge-tinged rock. Enjoyable at times but nothing special.

"Let's face it; these guys were never that good"

their older material has soooo much more going for it than this butt rock though. Alien Youth and Collide actually have some great hooks, intensity that doesn't feel meatheaded and much more creative instrumentation (The Thirst is Taking Over and Fingernails are probably the go-to recs).

"But wait, they have a girl drummer and are a Christian band so they get a pass by default right?"

wat, no, I can dunk on bad Christian bands all day. It's just that Skillet didn't use to be one of them.

also cheers beardog, if The Rush trilogy was bundled together as one song it'd probably be my SOTY

Skillet hasn't been relevant since 2009...

Nu-Metal died when every Christian Rock group in the mid-2000s all of a sudden decided they wanted to rip off Limp Bizkit, look at TFK for example.

Also, MeWithoutYou is not Christian music unless you still count Underoath as Christian music.
