Fresh Periphery track, new album

2019-02-06 by Toondude | 129 Comments
Sputnikmusic's favorite djent act Periphery has officially released the first song, entitled "Blood Eagle", off of their upcoming 6th album, Periphery IV: Hail Stan.

The new album contains 9 new tracks, including "Blood Eagle" as well as a 17-minute opener, "Reptile" (the band's longest song to date). It is scheduled to be released on April 9th. The album will be the band's first album without bassist Adam "Nolly" Getgood as a primary songwriter (though he will be producing the album as well as performing bass). It will also be released independently as the band left Sumerian Records in 2017.

'Blood Eagle'

Tracklist:
1. Reptile
2. Blood Eagle
3. Chvrch Bvrner
4. Garden in the Bones
5. It's Only Smiles
6. Follow Your Ghost
7. Crush
8. Sentient Glow
9. Satellites

"Please don’t be the actual album title"
I mean, would you prefer they take themselves seriously? At least they're self-aware right? I think it's funny.
I'm stoked as fuck for the 17-minute opener. People are bitching about that even though most would agree that their best songs are the longest ones. I expect this one to be technical and proggy as fuck, just like the title track on Omega (one of the best songs they've ever written)

Despite the memes/perceptions they have taken themselves seriously in a number of technical aspects. This track is confusing to analyze even from a polyphonic metal perspective. It's influenced by their past output, other bands' work and a new sound. After this I'm hoping we will get some juicy progressive metal/thrash/djent, rather than some rote shit spun out with a different take, chances are we will get some of both.

sharkmsc

Also Spencer is a truly talented vocalist. His screams and growls have gotten better, and his best technical strength as a vocalist has been his immense range and actually good pitch, but his clean-vocal entrance into this track is underwhelming. I really hope they figure out how they want to execute a shifting sound better than this
