Envy Return With Two New Songs

2018-11-05 by Malcontent | 35 Comments
Following the departure of their lead singer over two years ago, Envy have returned with the first new music since their 2015 album "Atheist's Cornea."

"Alnair in August" contains two new songs with original vocalist Tetsuya Fukagawa, along with the promise of a new full-length album in 2019.

I really liked both of those but that is among the worst album art I've ever seen

Listened to these last week, tracks are ok but hopefully the album does some new and exciting stuff. The blast beats at the end of Marginalized Thread took me a bit off guard

Artwork looks like it was done by the dude who did Pig Destroyer - Terrifyer and Planes Mistaken for Stars - Mercy

C’mon man A Dead Sinking Story, Abyssal, and the splits with Thursday and Jesu are all rad. The Compiled Fragments comp had some really good tracks too

I’ll concede that most everything else has been a bit lacking tho

U didn’t even mention Insomniac Doze which has one of the best songs in the genre, A Warm Room

Okay, yeah. Dead Sinking Story and Abyssal are good too.

Insomniac Doze is lacking in urgency imo, Abyssal did it better

yah i instantaneously thought of Mercy as soon as i saw the art. didnt know its all Chris Taylor tho

Had no clue the vocalist left

dont think they put out anything new between when he left (2016) and when he came back (2018) so unless you saw them live in that between period, you probs wouldnt have noticed. they did some shows with guest vocalists while Tetsu was outta the band

their new lineup also has a buncha new members from other fairly well known bands (killie, 9mm Parabellum Bullet, and Heaven in Her Arms)

It's always weird to me when people who liked their earlier stuff, hate on the new stuff. It's different but it's not THAT different.

@Eons: I think their new stuff has just gone too far into the post-rock realm and a lot of the songs follow the exact same structure. I really like Insomniac though. The Unknown Glow is probably one of my favorite Envy tracks.
