Hail Mary for the win wooot!!!!!!!
Digging: Ocoeur - Everything
Completely makes sense. Record companies have no incentive to put their top artists in the Super Bowl anymore, any artist who goes on stage for the Super Bowl will have a huge spike in sales. With Coldplay being practically the biggest household name in rock music in the 00's and 2 under performing records with a new one being released soon, it's a no brainer to throw them on the stage and gamble on a huge resurgence of a band that once dominated the music charts.
pretty sure chris martin said this is their last album so gambling on a resurgence is doubtful
that isn't even true
Unless they go 10 years without a record, I don't believe artists anymore when they say they're throwing in the towel.
I've only seen hail Mary's work in folklore, never during an actual game I watched. utter disbelief
on topic= la dee frickin dah

I hope they play Clocks
you know they will.
please maroon 5 instead
More often in college football.
part of the reason why college football is so much better
can't even begin to talk about all the crazy finishes in cfb this year alone fuck
FSU, michigan, miami
Pro football and cfb are awesome for different reasons.
Now, college bb >>> pro.
see gotta disagree there pro bb shits on ncaa
m a r c h m a d n e s s
cuz when u think football, u think coldplay
tbh I only watch Friday Night Lights. And they have mostly better music than post Viva La Vida coldplay.
whoever makes these kinds of decisions is an idiot
clearly taylor swift should have been the headline for SB 50.
Digging: The Weeknd - House of Balloons
For sheer star power it should have been Taylor Swift, but like I mentioned above, the huge bump in record sales from the Super Bowl performance would be wasted on Taylor Swift and I feel like Coldplay are the band that could greatly benefit from performing at the Super Bowl.
Yeah but by that logic shouldn't they just grab a local high school band
And yeah that would be awesome actually
I mean Coldplay were arguably the biggest Rock Band of the 00's and a household name. They aren't a band that needs to be re-explained or introduced to the audience, merely remind the audience that they exist, you like our old songs and by the way we have a new record, go buy it. I can see plenty of people watching and thinking "Damn, I haven't listened to Coldplay in Years. I really liked Parachutes/Rush of Blood/Viva La Vida, I'm gonna rebuy/stream those and check out their new record"
Definitely. I guess as a Coldplay fan I assume everyone still sees them as relevant.
Still, a boring choice in my opinion considering they could afford to lure in literally anyone of their choice.
I think this is part of the NFL continuing to try establishing a footprint in the UK. Coldplay are obviously an extremely popular band either way, but it's a win-win business decision for the league if they're going to continue the obsession with playing and eventually getting a team over there.
im not a coldplay fan whatsoever but its a better pick than most of the shit they have on there
There is nothing they can use to entice me to watch this shit. Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars, Coldplay... jesus christ get the Escalade. You know memorable acts like Michael Jackson, Prince, The Who, and the Rolling Stones used to play this massive event? But now we get Katy Perry, where a fucking shark is more entertaining.
Michael Jackson, The Who and Prince performed because they were acts at their time that had appealed to everyone, especially non football fans. The formula hasn't changed, the taste in music of the demographic of those who don't watch football has shifted to these mainstream top 40 pop acts.
Hahahaha! Coldplay and American throwball???
Two of the most boring things on planet earth. Match made in heaven.
Why are we talking about this?

Did you actually watch the Who and Rolling Stones show?
Also Katy Perry was entertaining af and you're a huge dork if you watch the Super Bowl Halftime Show for the music.
Bruno Mars and RHCP was a killer show, I don't care if the instruments are mimed that was my favorite half time show in a long time. I love The Who and The Rolling Stones but they're performances were a snooze fest, which is not what you want at the superbowl half time show. And coldplay will be a snooze fest as well
"Also Katy Perry was entertaining af and you're a huge dork if you watch the Super Bowl Halftime Show for the music."
The damn thing is in San Francisco. What entertaining artist could they get that is a staple of American sporting events that is actually associated with the Bay Area? 4 Non-Blondes? Nothing going on there. Faith No More? It would be epic but not mainstream enough to get excitement. Huey Lewis and the News? They have "Sports," that counts for something right? Oh, that's right, Metallica... Metallica is from the San Francisco area and "Enter Sandman is unavoidable at any sporting event. I blame that tactless, mouth-breathing jagaloon Roger Goddell
Megadeth could have been an option, they got an album on the horizon they could be hyping up. Metallica would have been a solid choice, too. Oh well, I'll just sing along to Viva La Vida. Just kidding, sports are for nerds
lol if you think Megadeth would ever be invited to play on that stage. Imagine the amount of angry moms sending letters to CBS on their name alone. Not to mention Dave's habit of incendiary political comments.
It's amazing how much difficulty music nerds have with the concept of music with mass appeal.
should just be springsteen every single year
coldplay are fucking garbage
Digging: Hot Mulligan - you'll be fine
Digging: Amnutseba - Emanatism
should just be springsteen every single year
Coldplay, superbowl and maroon 5 aka hell
absolutely terrible, their entire discography is bad
I think there's plenty of reasons from he business side of things that make plenty of artists not really want to play the half time show. They don't get paid and for a lot of large touring acts, that's simply out of the question for something they would do.
I didn't mind the first couple coldplay albums...a few guilty pleasure tracks. Still seems like an odd choice for the halftime show. Oh well.
AND YES! HAIL MARY FOR THE WIN! Football can be hilarious sometimes.
The band choices go well with the fans' homoerotic fascinations and convictions.
