Leprous album details

2015-02-19 by OmairSh | 20 Comments
Norwegian experimental progressive metallers Leprous have revealed a few details about their upcoming album named The Congregation. As with each Leprous release, the band has continued to change their sound, and this album is no different.

Vocalist/Keyboardist Einar Soldberg shared some insight into the writing process of the album:

"This has without doubt been the most challenging album to write so far, if you count the amount of hours, blood, sweat and tears behind it. Which makes me extra proud to just have delivered the master of what I consider to be the most daring, technical, fresh and mature album we've ever done. The music of The Congregation is mostly written by me on my computer, so that this time around I could use my ears instead of my knowledge as the main writing tool. If you use your knowledge and your usual methods to write every album, you will eventually find yourself stuck in a quagmire of old habits. Lyrically The Congregation covers the dangers and consequences of blindly following the flow, thus the album title will speak for itself."

The Congregation will be released in Europe on the 25th of May, and in the US on the 2nd of June. The band also shared a few dates for their upcoming European tour. The initial list can be found at this link:

Bring it the fuck on. Only thing that worries me is Einar's hogging of songwriting duties.

I only tried to post a news article once and it was details about the album Coal.

It wasn't approved so I stopped trying altogether.

Leprous AND Riverside new album. This is going to be a good year. Now that I'm officially in love with all three Leprous albums, I'm waiting for their following opus to amaze me!

Also, from the day that metal bands started composing songs via computer, metalheads have no right to say that pop is not music, because it's being composed by pressing buttons on a computer program.

Sorry for double post.

I'm a little worried about the computer thing as well, but at the same time I'm intrigued. Coal was more linear than its predecessors and Einar composed most of that as well. Let's hope this is a step up and more dynamic. Hopefully the whole band starts to compose together in the future as opposed to just Einar

Was a bit disappointed with Coal, even though it was pretty good overall.

Hey. Bro. I'm sorry, but there's a difference between composing music on a computer to make arrangements, and then playing it on your instruments.... And outright JUST using the computer to create music.

I have no issue with either process, personally, but you can't claim they're the same thing as a point of argument against that metalhead philosophy.

You're right Cutman, but I imagine composing on a PC must be very limiting. The results will speak for themselves but I've lowered my expectations a little so that I won't be disappointed.

That's a pretty silly elitist attitude tbh. How is that any different from classical composers writing sheet music? Did they have to be able to PLAY every single part on every single instrument in order to be considered a great composition? Do you lose respect for Jason Becker because he uses a computer to compose and "play" the music that he cannot physically play anymore?

Good music is good music. Just judging it because it was made using a computer as an instrument or as a tool rather than a conventional instrument says nothing about the music, but more about a backwards belief system about how great art can be created and manifested.

....Wait, how in the world is composing on a computer very limiting? A computer is capable of producing any note that exists, at any tempo, in any time signature, any meter, any.... Use whatever musical term you want, it can be done on a computer.

It is in no way limiting. There are a lot of composers for film score and stuff that compose on their computer before translating it to bigger things... It often EXPANDS my creativity, changes my habits, when I start on my computer.

@SitarHero / CutMan Hey man, it was just a joke because I've heard a lot of times that pop and electronic etc, are not music just because there's the use of computers. I used to believe this extensively, though now I have been proven wrong multiple times. Anyway, it was supposed to be a joke, but, hell, I was never great with humour....

Oh, dude, like, I wasn't offended or anything, I was just saying that I don't think it's actually the same.
