Primus 3D tour 2012-08-04 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 19 Comments | Primus have announced a unique 3D US tour for this fall, promoting the band's 2011 effort, Green Naugahyde, that will consist of two sets per evening. This is the first traveling 3D enhanced live musical performance and it will provide "a one-of-a-kind psychedelic experience, further enhanced by the fact that every show will also feature Quad Surround Sound." This is not the first time the band's bassist and vocalist, Les Claypool, has used this system, successfully debuting it at a New Year's Eve 2008 show with his own band at the San Francisco Opera house. The 3D technology for the tour was developed by 3D Live, a Burbank, California-based outgrowth of George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic.
Fans will be provided 3D goggles at the entrance of each show of the tour. Claypool promises "every show will be different. Different environments, as far as venues, are going to lend themselves to different experiences, depending on where you are and whatnot in the crowd. It's very heady. People that are going to be moshing around probably won't get any of this, but the heads will get it".
Also, the band will release a 5.1 Surround Sound reissue of 1991's Sailing the Seas of Cheese sometimes this fall, but a clear date has not been announced yet.

Interesting.
| | | Righto.
| | | Well if there was ever a time to try psychedelic mushrooms for the first time, October 24th would be it.
| | | Sweet, I'll be going. Think I'll ride my trusty hennepin crawler there. Anyone else
want a ride? It's only a dollar.
| | | I might go. It sounds interesting
| | | I would totally go because primus can do no wrong but they aren't coming here
| | | Ovrot and Mike, it's cool my dudes, I'll pick you up in the hennepin crawler, you can ride it around the world after all, I got you covered.
| | | sweet
| | | Might I get a lift too? I'm near Mike so you wouldn't have to make another trip. Also, shotgun.
| | | So that time when I saw them live… that wasn't 3D?
| | | These guys are awesome live and this sounds like it would make it that much better.
| | | No Cleveland or Columbus.
| | | I saw them years ago. Amazing band and Les Claypool is one of my favorite bass players.
| | | You mean watching a band perform on stage has been 2D this whole time?!
| | | Sweet.
| | | fuck
| | | Damn, sounds sweet. Wish I could go
| | | Very cool, wish they were coming here but I guess I'll have to be happy with having just seen them in... regular 3D... non enhanced 3D?
| | | of course....why would they come to the west coast? they only live there :/
