Roy Khan leaves Kamelot

2011-04-22 by Stokes | 58 Comments
After taking a break from touring due to health problems Roy Khan has decided to leave
Kamelot for good. The band has released the following statement:

"With a heavy heart we can now announce that Roy Khan has chosen to leave the band. We
wanted to give him ample time for this kind of decision, due to his recent burnout and also
the amount of amazing times we have shared with him in Kamelot. We respectfully accept his
resignation from the band and wish him the best in his future endeavors. The timing is
actually good since we feel the uncertainty the fans have had can now be laid to rest and the
band can move on to finding a new singer."

Last album was boring, but it still sucks to see him go.

I'm absolutely gutted by this news. Khan is one of my favourite vocalists and he was the reason I thought Kamelot had the edge over other Power Metal bands.

this. really really sad about this. i really hope he does something else.

Damn, he's one of the most original power metal singers. Wonder what they'll do next, hire a 3rd grade clone (Dark Moor or Serenity) or someone completly different?

I've always heard his absence was religion-related.

Might as well disband now...Poetry wasn't that good anyway.

Sucks quite a bit though, hope he can return to full health.

If Poetry For The Poisoned wasn't such a mediocre rehashing of their superior past works, I would be much more upset
about this. However, I feel like the Kamelot I knew and loved was already dead or dying, so this only confirms it and
puts the thought to rest.

I am just glad such a great vocalist was put to effective use in a great band for so many years! Kamelot struck a
balance in the world of power metal that is incredibly difficult and that most others never achieve.

This band is going to end up just like Scar Symmetry. Band itself will never get their quality back and the singer will do projects that are good but never as good as he was with the band.

It's all over for them. They can try to look for a new vocalist but to me, Roy Khan made that band. Even when the music was disappointing (like the last 2 records) Khan's performances always kept me coming back. The man was incredible. He's got range, depth, everything. This sucks so bad :

Khan absolutely ruled on everything he did with Kamelot.

sucks he's leaving, but he still made a huge impact with everything he's done and will continue to in whatever he chooses to pursue later.

i kinda wanted to see them on their us tour at the end of the year but idk if itll be worth it now.

Horrible news.....Khan was one of my favorite vocalists in not only metal, but all of music. He sang with range and passion and never had an off performance. This is so disappointing. I doubt I will listen to anything this band puts out now....as he was the only thing that really made this band anything special.

Fabio actually has done a good job with them. Sure, he's not Khan levels of good, but he is still pretty damn good. If Kamelot goes on with him, then I'm ok with that choice.
Won't be the same without Khan, though, he's one of my favorite vocalists of all time

Henning Basse would probably be the best replacement for Khan. After all his performance was top-notch on the new sons of seasons cd. Besides Oliver Palotai has already been playing with him for years now, and at the moment Basse is seemingly going nowhere with Metalium, so it would be the perfect chance to further his career.

That or they can go find Daniel Heiman, wherever hes disappeared to haha
