o good god....again?

A little known fact about Russell Brand is that, when he's on form doing stand-up, he's funny. Besides, the people he offends are douchebags anyway (Bush supporters, Jonas fags).
Although to be fair, a lot of the shit he's done in America sucks.
|
| |
i figured everybody knew russell brand was funny when he's on point, seeing as it's true and all
|
| |
He needs to go back to making fun of himself and the media, rather than insulting famous people and talking nonstop about sex/his sexuality. I remember circa 2006 almost every standup show he did was hilarious, but most of what i've seen him do in America has been pretty good but nothing special.
|
| |
he is a funny guy imo.
|
| |
hes funny as hell, americans dont seem to like him though
|
| |
I've seen some of his stand up and he is funny... Too bad I will never watch the VMA's
|
| |
Ahaha this is good news to me because it means more pissed off people.
|
| |
I heard Chris Brown is supposed to make his comeback at the awards.
|
| |
lol chris brown
|
| |
i love this guy
actually gonna watch the vmas this year now.
|
| |
Scyther I threw up a little bit in my mouth.
|
| |
Dude was funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
|
| |
I only have watched these awards the past few years because of my girlfriend, and this guy totally made watching last year worth it. He just didn't give a fuck, lol.
|
| |
If I could find the clips I could show why his comedic talent is very underrated (critically.. obviously he's not short on a fanbase), but they're from obscure parts of his shows so i'll leave it up to other people to buy his 2006 DVD "Shame" and watch ALL of it.
|
| |
Ha, Muse is performing also. Kind of surprising.
|
| |
He's funnier than most American comics IMO. When he sends himself up its just so fucking hilarious.
|
| |
I saw a standup special of his a few months ago and thought it was shitty.

His shows in America have been trying too hard to establish his personality, whereas in the UK like in the above clip he's more confident and at his best.
Btw, Ian Huntley is a hugely hated killer in the UK who murdered 2 young girls. Ballsy move doing jokes about that shit. Even ballsier move getting laughs.
|
| |
carlin is still king
|
| |
i prefer Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, and Brian Regan. My 3 fav
|
| |
Sebastian Maniscalco.
|
| |
Hicks was and always will be King, and the funniest man who ever lived. Carlin was nearly as good but too dismissive and not as charismatic as Hicks. Imo.
|
| |
He's awesome.
|
| |
oh please
hicks was a fag who took everything way too seriously.
carlin was absolutely hilarious in his prime. you have no idea what you're talking about.
|
| |
Carlin always took waaaay too long to deliver his punchlines, especially in his 'prime'. He's a decent comedian but I think most people only like him because he spoke about controversial stuff.
|
| |
oh please
hicks was a fag who took everything way too seriously.
carlin was absolutely hilarious in his prime. you have no idea what you're talking about.
Wrong. I can't be assed getting into the debate, just be aware you're wrong.
|
| |
or maybe it's opinion, faggot.
|
| |
Emotional reaction :O
|
| |
UhhKris if you ever talk about Hicks again like that I will rape you.
And people liked Carlin because he was one of the funniest men of all time, and because he took on controversial stuff and actually talked about it and made it funny. To say that it was only because of the controversial topics he chose shows a lack of understanding of the history of stand up comedy.
And yeah I agree Brand has kinda lame stand up but everything else he does is pretty great.
|
| |
Bill hicks was great, what I hate is all these guys I know who take him way too seriously and smoke lots of crack because apparently Hicks said it was okay (they all listen to Tool quite a lot, so I think there's a connection). Carlin is pretty funny too.
|
| |
hicks wasn't a comedian.
he was a guy who stood on stage and yelled at people and complained.
that's about it.
|
| |
Both are good, Hicks was just way better though. No Lenny Bruce love though?
|
| |
I actually like Carlin. I just thought his personality was kind of boring and I had a hard time believing he was the asshole he wanted to be perceived as. With Hicks, you could tell he really felt the emotions he portrayed, and harbored the resentments and hated the people he said he hated. With Carlin it just seemed to me like he wanted to sound hateful to get laughs. His voice was very cool and memorable, though, i'll give him that.
|
| |
comedy isn't about emotion or hate, though. it's about making people laugh.
carlin was absolutely great at that.
hicks? no.
|
| |
The way I see it, Carlin was the hateful guy that the public could accept, because he wasn't serious. Hicks was genuine. That's what makes him stand out for me. I'm not going to get into a big debate over who was funnier, because nothing is ever gained and i'm too lazy, I was just stating my opinion.
|
| |
it's about making people laugh.
carlin was absolutely great at that.
hicks? no.
Speak for yourself... I have a couple of his DVDs and the crowd are pissing their pants. Not to mention the fact that he died in the early 90s when his career was still in the early days and he's still remembered and hugely influential.
|
| |
it's about making people laugh. not always, like Lenny Bruce, a lot of comedians used their routine as a social commentary. I like to think when i'm watching stand up too not just laugh
|
| |
Russel Brand is the shit, but even he didn't like the results of his last MTV event. I'm not sure why he decided to do it again, but I
hope it goes well for him
|
| |
True, he didn't exactly break the USA with that performance. He came off as arrogant as fuck because he insulted the USA quite a bit, giving the impression he was a Brit with a superiority complex.
|
| |
brits generally are better than americans.
coming from an american.
just saying.
i hate this country.
|
| |

Nah dude, I can understand the mentality but the USA is way better than over here in the UK. People here are for the most part extremely casually racist and hate filled. The USA is a lot more progressive, save a few bad areas, from what I see.
|
| |
doesn't bother me at all.
americans are hypocritical, greedy, capitalist assholes.
i'd rather be filled with hate than see another fucking commercial about how i just absolutely HAVE to buy this product.
|
| |
but you can be a patrick bateman guy minus the killing. that sort of guy is awesome. be a laywer, fuck upper class sluts and be happy. britain is a rainy piss hole with depressing pubs as the only real thing to do for the over 40s. youll be grateful of your countrys wide selection of activities in the future. you've got las vegas, dammit
|
| |
i love rain and depressing pubs...
seriously, soon as i'm out of high school, its either england or ireland.
|
| |
Hah, i live in northern ireland.
I can see your pretty stubborn but seriously, just move state or something. The UK may have a lot of great bands but you'll find the people are much, much less friendly. Go to Canada if your looking for a happiness upgrade. the UK is full of depressed bastards.
|
| |
i hate this country. ummm then leave. i hate idiotic Americans who say they hate their own country. I'm guessing you're too young to understand how good it really is in America. Sure, we're run by a bunch of greedy politicians and corrupt officials, but what country isn't?
|
| |
dude, i'm 17. please, with all of your wonderful, brilliant, insight, please tell me how to leave seeing as how i'm stuck with my parents until i'm 18. fuck you. i plan on leaving. give me time.
|
| |
Seriously Americans, you have it the best. You have the best food, hottest women, a president who seems to actually give a shit (even if he's flawed as a president), tons of the best music, and a great acceptance of cultural and racial differences. You may have a little bit of a superficial culture thing going on, but it's better than living in the same place as the fucking IRA, or having a monotonous reality of pubs, clubs and humdrum work. In the States there is so much cultural shit you guys can do it's unreal. Nobody where I live skateboards, or surfs, or any of that stuff.
Oh, and you guys houses are about 10 X bigger than everybody where I live on average.
|
| |
Brits are "better" than Americans. . . .you not that far off from racism. Just remember it could always be worse. . . .you could be living in the slums of a 3rd world country wishing to be anywhere else.
|
| |
Umm you can technically drop out of school at 16. And since you aren't legally required to be in school anymore just bail and hightail it outta here.
|
| |
i don't hate the country, i hate the people.
plus we're really off-topic.
russell brand rules.
|
| |
EDIT: Please don't drop out.
Just so you know there are ego-centered bitches in every country, just as there are nice people. I know you can't escape the morons at your high school, but trust me after graduation you'll probably never see them again.
|
| |
Funny story, I watch a lot of movies from the early 80s/late 90s which depict the american "hood" and "ghetto", and the houses are literally fucking massive in comparison with the places we live here in Belfast. The average house in my area has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen/living room mixed together, a toilet which doesn't flush and I grew up in this sort of house as a kid up until I was fortunate enough to move in with my Dad who has a good job and can afford a decent sized place (3 bedrooms, two toilets. dining room, etc and a conservatory) and the interwebs. I'm extremely grateful of that. I plan on moving to America if I ever can
|
| |
uhhkris stop being a bitch, but we have iron maiden so we win
|
| |
i don't hate the country, i hate the people.
I understand that sentiment. But what you'll eventually realise is that the nature of people is the same everywhere. Except for Canada. Something about Canada just means the people are soo sooooo nice for no reason.
I'd say try and increase your social circle as you get older and hang out with people you like more, don't waste time with anyone who makes you feel bad, and don't jump to any rash conclusions about the place you are until you have a job and qualifications.
I'll tell you firsthand that the people of the UK (Ireland especially), while some of them are appreciative of American culture, they generally hate Americans and are bigger assholes than the people of America who are generally receptive of foreigners. And make no mistake, people will be dicks to you and take the piss out of you I am an exception in that America and Americans are where I wanna be at, mainly cos i'm a loudmouth and I like to state my opinion loudly, and I see that as an American culture thing (no offense to Americans who aren't like that :P)
|
| |
russel brand is a badass
|
| |
Look, no one even comes close to George Carlin. The man is on his own fucking level when it comes to comedy. The man wasn't even a comedian, he was a philosopher of our time. No one will ever come close.
|
| |
Dont be talkin shit about America either. Ya dig?
|
| |
Carlin wouldn't want you to put him on a pedestal.
|
| |
regardless, you cannot take away the mans genius.
|
| |
Idk Sarah Marshall was a pretty good movie
|
| |
For once, I somewhat agree with UhhhKris. I 'm growing tired of america's gang problem. What kind of stuff do they have over in the UK, chavs not included?
|
| |
we have chavs and more chavs
|
| |
Tina, either do something to fix the problem or stfu.
|
| |
Yeah, ok I'm going to bring down all those gangs. Where the fuck are you from?
|
| |
This guy is like the Rasputin of today's world.
|
| |
I'd say Rasputin is more of the Rasputin of today's world.
|
| |
Tina I'm from Mars
|
| |
I hate Russell Brand, that is all.
I'm English and he gets far too much attention here.
|
| |
mars can't support life. you liar
|
| |
That's what we want you to think
|
| |
This guy rules.
|
| |
I cant find that Jonas Brothers bash anywhere.
|
| |
Yeah me neither
|
| |
