Pestilence denied US entry

Technical death metal band, Pestilence, were scheduled to headline the Maryland Deathfest today (May 24th, 2009) but could not. Due to paperwork issues, band leader Patrick Mameli and guitarist Patrick Uterwyck were detained by US authorities for several hours before being sent back to the Netherlands.

Apparently the problem was that the paperwork sent to the band in order to get work visas was not properly completed. Before their trip, they were informed that everything was in order (although the press release does not say whom informed them of this) and to proceed to the US. All together the two spent 44 hours in flights and detainment. Band leader Patrick Mameli had this to say to fans:

“We are extremely sad and disappointed not being able to perform on the MDF. Not having received the proper information on our visa application, we were under the impression that what we received from the securing visas and working permits office was the actual working permits,” explains band leader Patrick Mameli. “We were kept under custody by the border security police for 4 hours trying to do everything in our power to let us pass, but all our efforts failed. They sent us home on the next plane. Hopefully we will be given another chance to perform for you, our fans!”

Sucks for them. Learn to fill out the paperwork... remember that the only dumb question is the one not asked ;)

Just an opinion. I would go out and drive to see these guys live if they came to Florida. I never drive to concerts so that's telling you something right there.

Pestilence definitely would not have been one of the bands I'd have payed to see at MDF.

Eh this was a bit of a bummer but we got Bolt Thrower 2 nights in a row so that more than made up for it.
