Andols rejoins Chimaira 2006-01-23 by Toaster | 9 Comments | After taking a two-year break from Ohio metal band Chimaira, drummer Andols Herrick has decided to return. “Being away from the band and touring for almost two years made me realize how much I missed it,” said Herrick. “Being involved in the Roadrunner 25th album and concert made me realize that this is where I want to be.”
Herrick's return means the end of Kevin Talley's (formerly in Dying Fetus) career with Chimaira. After putting forth a solid drumming effort on Chimaira's self titled 2005 album, he is now playing with The Red Chord during their upcoming tour.

Talley definitely has more speed, but he didn't have Andol's skill for writing drums. He rarely followed the guitar lines, and he didn't have any of the groove that Andols has (see Pure Hatred). I prefer Herrick, I'm glad he's back.

His drumming is way too derivative of the double bass pedals. He doesn't make very inventive fills or chops, IMO.

I prefer Herrick. He certainly improved from POOE to IOR just like the rest of the band. Implements of Destruction drums sound awesome.

I just go into Chimaira and I only have there last album so well see how the old drummer does but its going to hard to top what the new guy did

I agree that Herrick had more groove and better fills, but Talley was a BEAST with his feet. I think Talley's Pearl drums sound better than Herrick's Tama drums. IMO Herrick is a bit better though.

Herrick is the bomb. I was pretty pissed when he left. Talley was pure trash and their latest release suffered greatly from it.
