i love this band, but i have a bad feeling about this. particularly portnoy's quote:
"Imagine a DREAM THEATER album with 'A Change Of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning To Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'... all on one album... COULD YOU HANDLE IT?? Excited? I sure am!!!!"
sure those songs are all good, but a whole album of epics is too much. their best is behind them.
i will buy this, obviously

I could be wrong, but I don't think they take kindly to news simply being reposted verbatim. I think they'd prefer you re-word it and post a link to the source... could be wrong though.
Anyway, it's obviously a line of bullshit. They're wishing they could take all the best elements of those songs... I have no faith in anything close to what he describes.
|
| |
I agree with Ali though, an album that tried to incorporate all of their epics is too much.
What makes albums like Scenes so great I feel is the ability to encompass the epic and the more relaxed and to make an album of that would simply be too muchThis Message Edited On 03.13.09

Oh really? I thought it was cool to just post it and always source where you get it from! I had no idea.
Edit: Re-worded. Thanks for the tip Willie. This Message Edited On 03.13.09

Pretty shitty title and artwork, but I'm still expecting good things.
|
| |
I just hope it's better than Systematic Chaos.
|
| |
it'll probably be much worse.
and thats pretty hard to do by most. This Message Edited On 03.13.09

|
| |

|

Something tells me this is going to be really good. Only 6 songs, good titles, from what I heard in the teaser posted a while back this is going to be an immense musical journey, probably extremely progressive.
|
| |
i wonder which of those tracks is going to continue the "alcoholics' anonymous" thing they had going with "this dying soul" and "the glass prison" etc.
|
| |
Sounds awesome
|
| |
The album will be a 78 minute recording of insane guitar solos played over layered samples of each band member jerking off onto the others' faces - the pinnacle of Dream Theater, the theater where dreams come to life.
|
| |
a whole album of epics is the only thing that would inspire me to check this out
|
| |
Rasputin, I love you. Haha.
Album will suck just like pretty much anything Dream Theater has ever released.
|
| |
So I still have no clue what makes this album different than their past ones. I don't really want an album with songs like "Octavarium," "The Glass Prison," etc. I want something new and fresh.
|
| |
uhh im pumped but im a fanboy
i wonder which of those tracks is going to continue the "alcoholics' anonymous" thing they had going with "this dying soul" and "the glass prison" etc.
My guess is "The Shattered Fortress." In The Glass Prison, it was referred to as "a long lost fortress" and as we all know, glass shatters.
|
| |
sooooooo stooookkkeeeddd
|
| |
This is pretty homosexual news.
|
| |
I like the album art, but it looks too much like a combination of Awake and ACoS.
|
| |
their keyboardist said they'd been going into the gothic domain a lot with this one.
|
| |
June 23? why the fuck are they telling us about it now then???
|
| |
As always I am fuckin stoked for this. I love all the DT albums and this one looks like it's going to be epic. I'm gonna get the holy shït edition of the album.
What's up with all the DT hating?
|
| |
People don't like 24 minute guitar solos.
|
| |
album cover is good,
they've been in an annoyingly metal phase most of this decade, i think their more-prog-less-metal approach worked much better. SDOIT is the only album I really liked since it.
|
| |
I really like most of what this band has to offer, but I'd agree that a change in vocalists could do them some good.
|
| |
Thats the thing with LaBrie. You either like em or your hate him. I think his voice is great. and hopefully he has some great parts in BC&SL
Btw I agree that cover artwork does look like the orphaned child of ACOS and Awake but it looks awesome. Looks so nerdy and sci-fi.
|
| |
man overture 1928 is epic
|
| |
I've taken craps that were more epic than Overture 1928
|
| |
ur mums a man
|
| |
Pretty much, that's why although it feels so wrong, it's so right
|
| |
Seriously. LaBrie is the main reason I dislike DT so much. I just can't stand his voice and how it's so not right for the music.
|
| |
yea his voice is kinda annoying its pretty cool on strange deja vu though
|
| |
^Agrees.
I hope this will be better than Systematic chaos, but it sounds like they'll go ego-tripping all over the place again.
|
| |
I meant I agreed with Kris. Like the music, can't stand LaBrie. He's pretty standable on Awake though.
|
| |
Labrie sucks on most of Awake. Especially when he tries to use an overly metal voice like the chorus on 6:00. He should sing like he does on Beyond This Life more often imo.
|
| |
He should just get deported back to Canada
|
| |
I thought Labrie was still pretty good on "Awake". It's the later albums where something just seems to be wrong. I thought it was his voice going, but he's awesome on his last solo album.
|
| |
Maybe he should live up to his surname and get some brees on the go
|
| |
Album title is boring, track names are boring and even the cover art is boring. Hopefully the songs will make up for that, and they'll get out of the funk they were in for Systematic Chaos.
This band is constantly improving and getting better, but Systematic Chaos was just not an enjoyable listen.
LaBrie is a fantastic vocalist, but his vocals are annoying, so I'm glad to hear they're releasing a whole instrumental version of this album.
In the big picture, I'm not really THAT stoked for this though.
|
| |
Rasputin's comment brings the lulz.
fairly intrigued in this. whatever it is they do, we can be fully certain that Petrucci will shred the fuck out of his fret-board, thus making us cum in our lil pants.
|
| |
Cool.
|
| |
at the risk of sounding like an Anthony Green fanboy, I think his voice would work well with DT
|
| |
6 songs...?
|
| |
I've got a good feeling about this album (love the artwork too), think it might be a darker album like 'Awake'.
I think those of us who love Dream Theater will love this album and everyone else will probably hate it
Oh and I think that 'A Rite Of Passage' might be the AA track, because the final two steps of the process are quite spiritual (hence the word 'rite')This Message Edited On 03.14.09

| |
Oh, and the singer is kinda cool. Seems like a bit of a Bruce Dickinson, Queensryche (His name escapes me) wanna-be though...
|
| |
6 songs...?
Remember, its dream theater so theres gunna be a few long songs in there.
Im a bit sceptical about this given their last record.
|
| |
i cant wait! ... and to all you labrie haters, he fits perfectly with DT. how many of you that are cutting on him have actually listened to more than 2 songs?
|
| |
Thing with LaBrie: he ruptured his vocal chords on tour in 1995 and has sung shittily for years afterwards trying to get his voice back. It's not until the past two or three years that it's really healed.
|
| |
how many of you that are cutting on him have actually listened to more than 2 songs?
Most ppl on this site have listened to more than 2 DT songs.
|
| |
unfortunately
|
| |
fortunately*

Systematic Chaos was really terrible thinking about it.
|
| |
It wasn't terrible just not that good. This Message Edited On 03.14.09
|

Although from the looks of things, this will be ten times better.
|
| |
don't kid yourself. it was terrible.
|
| |
Thats why i said that this looks like it will be better.
why the new album looks like it will be better than Systematic Chaos in other words.
|
| |
album art looks good.
|
| |
it's a stratovarius ripoff
|
| |
Systematic Chaos was pretty good. In The Presence of Enemies is a fantastic song. This album art is pretty damn awesome, I have a feeling this album is going to tear up.
And I love Labrie. There, I said it. There are too many perfect moments in Dream Theater's discography that include him for me to even consider them getting another vocalist.
|
| |
"A Nightmare to Remember" is almost as bad a title as "All Nightmare Long"
I'll still get this, though. Love the DT.
