This is pretty much tradition, of the three major hackings/database loses, all three of them have happened in February. Back-ups must be on a wonky schedule.

Incorrect Tyler. Last year happened in May. I remember because I was away at the time.
The back-up had only been done to the end of February though, so we got off lightly losing 2 weeks worth this time around. Reposting 3 reviews, as compared to 23, will definitely be easier for yours truly!

in light of the recent activities on the forums side of the site i would just like to make a suggestion for their return:

don't close GD. merge all GD sub forums with it (Politics / Video Games - Movies / Sports) and thats that. the benefit of this for users and staff i'm sure are obvious. and the detriment of closing a General Discussion forum on a board this size i'm sure is also obvious. otherwise you would not have reopened it a couple of years ago. and you will again. so why keep going round and round when you can just make some changes now?

also, maybe get some forums going that will attract reviews site users? its a pretty good group here from what i can tell, and they seem to care about your site. so why are the forums still more like MXTABS? does the board need specific instruments forums? Songwriting & Lyrics? idk....imo it should be more of a general interest board that focuses on the reviews site and reviews, youth culture, social networking. MXTABS is long gone. time to move things forward, even if that means losing some veteran users. the site needs NEW users, not the same old ones necessarily. the users who hack your site? old users with old grievances. the mods who run it? vets. and thats good. but the board needs new blood, too. the forums could be what you want them to be with some changes. simply closing GD changes nothing

thats it. i'ma close my big mouth now :/

i got the silverchair thing also the first time. the way i did it if i recall is not to click on the link but copy the link info. you can't get the review back i don't think, but the comments. the review i believe has to be reposted

When you find your review on Google click the "cached" link. That should bring up your review so that you can copy it and repost it here. You need to get the old review ID from Google in order to restore your comments.

one last suggestion:

have a General Discussion forum and "The Pit"

this way every spammy, troll ridden, idiotic, flame infested, completely useless thread isn't closed and users not banned...but its simply moved to "The Pit." so people will know where to go to post that stuff and be free to post it if they like. and i'm not saying that as if its something bad. its a good thing

and by turn if a good thread that is worthy of "General Discussion" is started in The Pit it is moved to "General Discussion." if it deteriorates from that point, it is closed

of course both forums will need mods who know how to make distinctions. which we have. so it should be easy enough. and of course as i said b4, Politics, Video Games - Movies, and the Sports forums will be closed and merged into GD. i think it would work pretty well. and make some room for reviews site people. maybe close the various instrument forums and have just one forum for all related stuff like that

it would mean a big change for the site. and some traffic would be lost initially prolly. old users would be put out. but its a different site now if sputnikreviews its its base. the forums need to be different, too. and since this is the internet change is pretty easy. just make it and see what happens

also, mod some users from the reviews site and give them some new forums to run on the board. would be...interesting
