time for the reviews.
album is damn good, especially for trivium

Had this downloaded for a bit. All I'll say is it's not terrible...
|
| |
Better than The Crusade that's for sure...still not that great though...
|
| |
Agreed with above 2 comments. May review it.
|
| |
I guess I'll check this out.
|
| |
The screamier vocals are really terrible. I'm only on the first song (well it just finished) but they sound like a fat guy having a heart attack while eating a cheeseburger only he's screaming for some reason.
|
| |
So far, its mediocre.
|
| |
Really hard to listen to. I gave up 2 songs in. It's just ridiculously plain sounding. Cool riffs but no structure and the vocals range from bland to atrocious.
|
| |
"sound like a fat guy having a heart attack while eating a cheeseburger only he's screaming for some reason."
lulz, now i just have to listen.
|
| |
i often listen to Trivium solely because of the riffs. then again, i play guitar. if this has good riffs, then i guess ill enjoy. but they have sounded a bit bland from what i have heard so far, apart from Kirisute Gomen, and the second track.
|
| |
It's beating The Crusdade so far. It seems alright so far but not as cool as Ascendacy.
|
| |
I think there's just too much hate due to the last album. It's not bad, and if it came out under a different band name most people probably wouldn't be so hard on them.
|
| |
its actually pretty good, not anything excellent but soooo much better than the crusade.
|
| |

This. This is another one of those Dragonforce-type "fun to listen to" albums. Nothing real original, but it's actually catchy. And the chorus of the song Shogun is so awesome.
|
| |
trying to be epic, me thinks. Not working
|
| |
its a great album, too bad people are degrading it because they still hate the crusade.
|
| |
I've never listened to the Crusade and I thought it was pretty boring and hard to listen to.
|
| |
horrible album name.
|
| |
I find it hilarious that there are actually people that criticize this and praise the new blunderoath album. I don't think this sounds that bad.
|
| |
^ That's because the new Underoath actually is better than this.
|

In your opinion. In my opinion it's some of the most bland material metalcore has produced in years. Not one track that impressed me and not one member of the band that does anything new/impressive/original/rememberable on the entire album. I bought it and listened to it like a dozen times trying to like it but it just sounded like any local band playing a club down the street to me. It always surprises me what albums people think are good.
|
| |
Its a shame we wont get any real reviews saying how good this album really is. The majority of people will go in with a closed mind because for some reason unbeknownst to me people hate Trivium, yeah The Crusade wasnt the best album ever, who cares. Judge it on its merits. Opinions are like arseholes - everyones got one.
Mine - contender for album of the year.
|
| |
Listened to all of it twice now. Still find it incredibly mediocre. It's waaaaaaay better than The Crusade, but then again that's not saying much.
|
| |
It is slaughtering The Crusade, which honestly isn't that hard to do, but Cocaine is right, the screams sound very, very forced and painful to the ears. It seems like a good album, nothing too special so far, but it isn't the musical abortion that is The Crusade. Nothing they make will touch Ascendancy though.
|
| |
GOD, those song names are damn stupid though.
|
| |
"Down From The Sky" has an extremely catchy riff that gets stuck in my head. I find Heafy's harsh vocals good, sorta unique I would say.

i dont think at all his vocals suck on this album, Coke just has very high standards i guess or he doesnt want his eliteness to drop. they sounded forced on The Crusade but i think Matt has gotten much better. overall this album is a 3.5/5 for me. everything has stepped up but yeah not close to Ascendancy. no way album of the year though. maybe top 25 for me. theres only a few songs here that dont really go anywhere.
its a shame theres going to be a lot of negative reviews saying "metallica wannabes" or "i hated the crusade so i hate this"
|
| |
Vocals sound like Hetfield, but much much worse.
|
| |
no they dont sound like him at all really
|
| |
The screamed vocals suck. I'll not let someone like jrowa, who downloads 15 albums a day and listens once before he rates them and moves on, try to make jokes at my expense.
|
| |
huh...sounds pretty good to me. I'm not a Trivium hater like 90 percent of the site, but i'll admit The Crusade wasn't too great. Some of the riffs are fantastic here. However, it feels overly long, and Heafy's clean vocals really irk me. Tbh I enjoy is screaming vocals more even though they're kinda shitty. I just think they fit the music decently.
|
| |
This is good, I didn't hate The Crusade as much as many did but it still wasn't that good, this however is way better & I'm liking it lots
|
| |
It's the cool thing to do to hate trivium obviously
its a shame theres going to be a lot of negative reviews saying "metallica wannabes" or "i hated the crusade so i hate this"
this.
the album's actually very good. just the more "elite" people will never give this a chance because they are too narrow minded.
|
| |
I'm really fed up with the implication that "elite" people won't give it a chance. I'm sorry, but being sceptical based on the allegedly atrocious Crusade is not unreasonable. Making assumptions based on people's taste and implying that they'll refuse to give this a chance because of their current set of standards is unreasonable. I gave it a chance. It was okay. The riffs were decent, the vocals were bad, the drums were tight. The songs had no flow, they were too long, and it just wasn't interesting to listen to. I wont say it was bad but I won't say it was good, either.
What gives Trivium fans the right to call people who don't like the band "narrow minded"?This Message Edited On 09.23.08
|
| |
I did my best to come in poen minded, i mean i think the new Slipknot album is one of the best albums of 2008 & i dont like their old stuff. But Trivium still blows.
|
| |
"What gives Trivium fans the right to call people who don't like the band "narrow minded"?"
This is a valid point and quite true, however there still are many people who do hate them just because they are trivium, and to deny that is just silly.
And the people that think he sounds remotely like hetfield are just crazy. The ironic thing is that for people to hate a band just because of who they are means that people must have thought they were good in the first place...otherwise it wouldn't even be worth it to hate them.
|
| |
I can agree with your statement, but X factor is subjective. There are plenty of people on this site that think certain bands have the "x factor" and I think they're boring as hell. I'm sure you feel the same way about various bands...like Trivium for example.
|
| |
Whats your point? Youre saying the same thing over and over by now.
|
| |
he just thinks he's being smart
|
| |
id give this a chance if the vocals weren't so horrendously bad
|
| |
Like I said near the top, it's average, an improvement but nothing amazing.
The heavy vocals are not that good. I remmeber when I first heard it and thought whoever was doing them sounded constipated.
Who's doing the heavy vocals on this. Matt/Corey or both of them?
Some of the riffs are quite good though.
|
| |
Riffs are stolen and recycled this time from Hypocrisy, Opeth and a few others. I need to give this another listen. The vocals are worse than ever.
|
| |
Did you gather all that from spinning through this one time?...
wow, you must have a good ear...
|
| |
Listen to the first 40 seconds of "Kirisute Gomen" and tell me you don't hear Opeth?
