Slipknot Unveil New Masks

2008-07-01 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 25 Comments
Remember when nobody knew what Slipknot looked like? That was fun.

In preparation for the release of their fourth album All Hope Is Gone on August 26, the band have allowed AOL's Spinner blog the exclusive first look at the masks they will be wearing for the forthcoming tour and promo videos.

The new single, entitled 'Psychosocial,' is also available for streaming from the site.

Well, technically we don't know what they really look like. At least I think so....This Message Edited On 07.01.08

The only folks I saw without masks were Corey Taylor and Joey Jordison....

Some of the new masks look kinda cool, but overall it's more funny than scary or whatever Spinner wants to suggest there with the Hannibal Lecter and Pinhead reference... :D

This whole mask gimmick is getting stupid now.

The only cool band to ever wear masks was Mr. Bungle and they're gone.

Everyone except for Craig has appeared without their masks.

I actually like the new look for Joey a lot. And Psychosocial is a pretty decent song. I'm actually looking forward to this album, so sue me. All Hope Is Gone shows that Slipknot can write a rhythmically challenging tune with it's weird time signatures.
I'm not completely writing this off yet...

The article claims the masks recall horror movies. Which horror movies, exactly? Killer Klowns from Outer Space? Horror of Party Beach? Now that I think of it, having one of those band members wearing a mask that had a mouth full of hot dogs would be grotesquely, ironically hilarious. I mean, come one! The punchline would write itself!

Made me lol a bit. They are pretty cool.

This new song is a lot better than the one that was posted a couple of weeks ago. Corey's singing is quite enjoyable.

The new masks are pretty cool. Clowns one is awesome but coreys one kinda sucks. the single is pretty good but not as good as all hope is gone

I've seen all 9 member unmasked at one time or another, including craig, although it was only once.

Anyways, new masks are pretty much the same, corey#'s is lulzworthy though, same as the new songs.

I love how these guys cater to 14 year old, angst ridden, faggot teenagers.

I predict that by the next album, James will have come out of the closet, and his mask will fully reflect that.

As opposed to extreme metal, which appeals to... 16 year old, angst ridden, faggot teenagers!

I love you.
Don't care for the masks, but whatever. I'll probably pick up the new album even though I don't care about Slipknot that much. I enjoy about half the songs from their albums, I find them catchy if I'm not in the mood for what I usually listen to.This Message Edited On 07.02.08This Message Edited On 07.02.08

Pyschosocial is actually a pretty good track, way better than All Hope is Gone. And the masks are pretty cool, gimmicky or not.

I'd like to know if they're still going to be wearing the individually numbered boiler suits. THAT was gimmicky.
I like the new masks, they're cool escalations of the past ones. Fuck me, Clown is a psychopath.

i think i may be the only one who thinks that the masks aren't entirely gimmicky. sure, they're there to attract attention, but they've been wearing the masks ever since their first album debuted almost 10 years ago. if they really were all about gimmicks or money, i think they'd try to ween the masks out of their act sooner or later (like kiss and mudvayne). it's gotta be a pain in the ass to put those masks on for every show/interview/outing that the band has.

BTW, i think the two new songs are cool, and i can't wait for this album. i personally liked corey's mask the best.
