Noel Gallagher Slams Jay-Z

2008-04-16 by tcaporale | 31 Comments
It appears that Noel Gallagher of the British band Oasis is unhappy with the booking of Jay-Z at the upcoming Glastonbury Festival, stating "if it ain't broke, don't fix it...I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury."

However, festival co-organizer Emily Eavis dismissed his comments as "innate conservatism," making the suggestion that Gallagher feels that "a black, U.S. hip-hop artist shouldn't be playing in front of what many perceive to be a white, middle-class audience."

I'm with Noel on this one. It's not because he's black. jesus, it's because it's hip hop! It's like putting Jay-Z at Woodstock or something. Santana, Hendrix and Jay-Z. With Glastonbury, you have a similar effect.

but then, I do understand that this is what mainstream music has come to, so I guess that's Jay-Z's loophole. This Message Edited On 04.16.08

I don't think that Noel is racist in any way, as he dismissed hip-hop in interviews in the past, but he really should just shut up. He's a funny guy and all, but, really, he doesn't need to state his opinion on everything. No one appointed him the spokesman for British music.

I knew it was almost about time for Noel to seek some attention again.

I think Noel is just jealous of Jay-Z's relevance.

"a black, U.S. hip-hop artist shouldn't be playing in front of what many perceive to be a white, middle-class audience."

That's been rap's #1 demographic for the past decade. Don't these people pay any attention to the charts? This Message Edited On 04.16.08

Nope...Jay-Z doesn't write any of his raps, they are all basically off the top of his head. He goes in to the studio with an idea but just raps what he feels. Why do i know that? I don't know, but i respect the guy for his skill.

im with noel on this, glasto is a festival mainly of rock orientated musicians, be it alternative of any kind.

jay z is the reason for me not going to glastonbury this year, had oasis been playing i would have been going, if i had got tickets.

its ridiculous to put jay z on at glastonbury, and im glad noels got the balls to stand up to this, theres no racism in the comment, so anyone who see's it as a racist comment is being fucking stupid, he's saying hip hop, the mainstream kind at least, doesnt belong at glastonbury, which i agree with.

It's not racist, it's just dumb and inaccurate. glastonbury like any other concert is there to sell tickets, and Jay-Z sells tickets. The people planning these could really give a shit about what bands people want. Be it woodstock, Summer Jam, or any other big concert ever.

Funniest thing Liam Gallagher has said in an interview:

I: What are the ten things you hate the most?

Liam: Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United, Manchester United.

Me too, currently. Last Sunday was not a good day!

Seriously, I'm getting tired of Noel. Oasis are OK in the background but not much else. Fuck, he should take it as a complement that he and Jay-Z are on the same stage together.

Noel Gallagher is better known for his comments than his music. Mostly because the music is sub-par at best.

O YES I DID

Uhm...tickets have apparently never sold out so slowly as they have this year...so Noel has a point. He and his brother may be class A douchebags, but they are right with this: why follow up a year with The Who and The Killers with Jay-Z? Who gets the idea to book Jay-Z as the probably first ever non-rockish artist at Glastonbury? Stupid...

If anyone else said this you'd all side with him...but you feel pain when you agree with Gallagher.

Remember when they booked Justin Timberlake with AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Rush, and The Guess Who at Toronto Rocks. It didn't end well for Timberlake.

It's just like the others are saying...Jay-Z at ozzfest this summer!

And everyone bashes Noel for his comments...but knowing the maturity of rappers Jay-Z's probably sitting at home trying to come up with some awesome rhymes to bash Noel. This Message Edited On 04.17.08

Oh sorry...I guess I thought it was rappers who started petty feuds, and dissed their contemporaries in song...I must have got rap and the music of the swinging 60's confused.
