Goth killing; 2008-03-28 by fireaboveicebelow | 28 Comments | A 15-year-old has been found guilty of the murder of Sophie Lancaster, 20, reportedly killed because she was a goth.
As previously reported, Brendan Harris and four other teenagers kicked Lancaster to death in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, Lancashire in August 2007. Another boy, Ryan Herbert, has already pleaded guilty to the murder.
Lancaster's boyfriend Robert Maltby was seriously injured in the seemingly unprovoked attack, and has still not recovered from the injuries he sustained. The victim's mother, Sylvia Lancaster, has released a statement following the verdict, stating that her daughter was killed because of her appearance.
Lancaster said: "First, obviously, I have lost an adoring and adorable daughter. She was intelligent, brave, courageous and had a social conscience beyond her years.
"Her death has also ruined the lives of those responsible as well as the lives of their families. On a wider scale it is a tragedy for a society which in the past has prided itself on its tolerance.
"I am convinced Sophie was killed simply because of the way she looked. She did not necessarily conform to the ideals of those who took her life."
All five defendants have pleaded guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm.
In other news, a wave of violence against emo kids is spreading across Mexico, with the music fans being attacked by mobs in the street. The violent attacks are partly being blamed on an on-air rant by ‘Televisa’ TV personality Kristoff who recently called emo ‘fucking bullshit’.
On March 7 around 800 young people in the city of Querataro amassed against emos in the city resulting in many violent attacks, and a week later a similar incident occurred in Mexico City. Emos in both cities responded to the attacks by marching peacefully through the center of the cities.
Meanwhile, Chile is also seeing a wave of violence against emo, with TV station Chilevision showing an attack on a group of PokEMOns by skinheads. Emo’s in Chile are known as PokEMOns.

I have seen Kristoff's show, I live in Mexico, and it slams people who use the emo stereotype very hard, but it is not really his fault. Over here, the whole "emo" thing has taken over the youth of Monterrey and all of Mexico and people who are in hardcore crews and metalheads just beat the shit out of them. It has been going on for a while though.

I heard about this last week and honestly, felt sick to my stomach. Only in Britain could something like this happen, where the streets are flooded with little rap-star-culture whore dickheads who think its big and clever to go around stabbing people and using violence on innocent people.
