The Offspring: Album update

The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland has posted an update on his journal that the band are just about to get ready to record their long delayed follow-up to 2003's Splinter.

A lot of people have been asking me lately, "what's up with the band?". I guess they think that if you're not on tour, you're not doing anything. But as savvy people like you know, no, that's not the case. We're putting a record together right now, which means we‘re writing songs and getting ready to record. Noodles, Greg K and I (Atom is on tour) get together regularly, where we sit Indian-style in a circle, in a dark room, with a lava lamp in between us, and work on songs. Then we all talk about our feelings.

The Offspring's follow-up to Splinter is expected for release in late 2006/early 2007 via Columbia Records. The official title and producer for the album are still unconfirmed. It will also be the band's first release with new drummer Adam "Atom" Willard recording studio tracks as Josh Freese (of A Perfect Circle and The Vandals) handled the drumming tracks for Splinter.

"All right, that's not true either. But, the bottom line is we're working on songs (we're probably a little over halfway), and meeting with some awesome record producers. I would tell you who they are, but I'm not sure that I could trust all of you to keep it a secret. So we'll just have to leave it to your imaginations. Got some new graphics in the works too, so check back here to see all the new stuff. I think we'll be recording the new record in a couple months."

Holland has also confirmed that Willard is still a member of the band. He is now performing with Angels And Airwaves (formed by blink-182's Tom DeLonge), who just recently released their debut album Don't Need to Whisper. Months ago, there were some rumors claiming that he left the band when he was involved with that project.

I've been speculating about a new Offspring album lately, and I now I know for sure.

I can't wait until Late 2006/Early 2007
